jamal crawford can create for himself and others - an insanely important skill for the playoffs. the only other guy who is MAYBE available to us who can do that is baron davis. and he might not be available. and if you look at what jamal has done the last two or three years, he's shown he's got a lot more left in the tank than baron and is more durable.
to me, the ability to add crawford is such a no-brainer and fills such an important role for this team.
All true. However we would be renting Jamal. We wont be able to resign him next year. At that point we have a big gap to fill unless he will take a multi year MLE contract. Would rather take a stab at guys like Rashad Mccants or Reggie Williams
maybe i'm hopelessly optimistic, but i wouldn't be surprised if we could sign both Shawne and Jamal.

optimism has no place with anything Knicks related

And right before I post this, this runs across twitter @WojYahooNBANew York, Portland, Charlotte and Detroit are the four finalists for forward Reggie Williams, league sources tell Y! Sports.

lol... just watch when the Knicks sign Jamal Crawford, Shawne Williams and Reggie Williams to round out the roster.
The unrestricted free-agent, Jamal Crawford, has apparently narrowed down his choices to the New York Knicks, Sacramento Kings, and the Portland Trail Blazers. I'm told the Kings and Blazers are in the lead.
The Blazers have an offer on the table of $5 million and the Kings are offering $6.5 million. Crawford wants a 2-year deal with an opt-out after year one.
According to a source familiar with the talks, the Blazers have offered Crawford the chance to start immediately while Sacramento said he could crack the starting five by mid-season.

I think a large number of you are going to be suprised, when Jamal signs with the Knicks. On the surface, its hard to understand why a basketball player like Shane Battier was willing to leave about $3 million on the table, in order to have a chance to play with the Heat and compete for a championship. I think the thinking exists with Jamal, and the Knicks. Plus two of his past coaches that he respects are telling him, that he can have a special role with the Knicks. Finally if he Jamal was that concerned with money, he surely would kicked the Knicks off of his list a while ago.
I don't agree that the Knicks can't resign Jamal next year. Seems to me that they could give him their mid level exception next year if they wanted to.
Why do the Knick's want Jamal so badly?
1) He allows the Knicks to have two players capable of getting their own shot, throughout the game.
2) At the end of the game, they will have 3 players capable of getting off a shot to win the game.
3) There are also likely to be times during the year when either Amare or Melo are unable to play. That would be a time when Jamal would prove to be extremely valuable by allowing the Knicks to continue to have two strong scorers on the floor.
Is Jamal a momma's boy?
Crawford told The Oregonian his mother wants him to play in Portland, a two-hour drive from his home in Seattle.

"That's My Baby!"
Jamal needs to man up, put on his big boy pants and get his butt to practice with the . That is, unless of course, the chedda is more important.

The above link leads to an article about Jamal Crawford making a difficult decision about where to go. One quote says:
"I flip-flop every other second," Crawford said. "Especially in my inner circle, everybody has a different opinion. Ultimately, it's going to come down to me and I have to live with the decision. I think they're all good choices."
"A veteran of 11 NBA seasons, Crawford said he is more worried about finding the right fit than hitting a certain dollar amount in his contract." That attitude about finding the right fit and not focusing on money does seem to me to point toward the Knicks, although when I wrote my last post, I hadn't found this article.
Here is something else that interests me.
"Right now I'm 31, but I'm probably the youngest 31-year-old you'll ever find," he said. "I play all the time. I don't feel like I've lost a step -- I'm pretty honest with myself. I feel like I'm actually getting better. I feel like these are my prime years."
I had looked at Jamal's statistics for the last two years. Two years ago, he shot a very high percentage (.449) and played much better than he had before. This last season, his shooting percentage and his other numbers were dramatically reduced (.421). Also Atlanta didn't want him back. Made me think that perhaps at 31, the guy that relied on speed and an excellent first step to get to the basket, might be slowing down. I thought the statement about this continuing to be his prime was an interesting piece.
No where in the article does he talk about worrying about what his mother wants..... .
I love it when they say its not about the money...........
Its always about the money!
If it was not about the money, he'd be here already.
He can rebuild with Lamarcuz and Old Man Oden or finish the job here!
Dude has unfinished biz here.

could be about his family too? lots of money & near kids versus $2.5M with winning team on different coast than family.
The Knicks Fix
#Knicks move to @ShawneWill3 as @JCrossover eliminates taking $2.5M room exception to come to NY. Crawford to choose either POR or SAC.

And it's over. Time to bring back Shawne.

Offer Douglas for chrissakes. He was never taking half the money. Time to give up the fantasy.Put some players out there for a sign and trade. Get Crawford here!
Well now there will be more opportunity for Iman to shine

. Bringing back Shawne seems like a must now. They need to stop messin around and get it done.
We can do better than Crawford. Maybe not right away, but backup two guards to be lead the bench in scoring are not impossible to find. Barron D maybe a better get.

Man at this point we don't need any broke back Guards! Like I said give Iman the green light to do his thing. We don't have another guard with his scoring ability, off penetration. He's got breakdown skills and can rise and shoot over any guard. Iman can rise 37" from a stand still and 42" with a step. IMO he's the best candidate for that 6th man role.

I think it was reported that Shawne wanted to resolve his contract by today. It will be interesting to see if the Knicks wait to see if anything happens with Baron or if they bring back Shawne.
