Knicks · Knicks Emerging in Jamal Crawford Chase (page 11)

The knicks are doing this because they need a third scoring option. Any good team has atleast 3 good scoring options. For goodness sake, if Stoudemire stubs a toe or Carmelo hyperextends a knee and there is no tertiary scoring option to take the load while one of those guys gets better, than our whole season would go up in smoke.

Absolutely. Need that third scorer. I hope this can get done.

agreed completely. imagine being in the playoffs and amar'e or melo twist an ankle or pick up 4 fouls in the early 3rd quarter.

also, he just makes the offense that much more dynamic.

"Although a source thought it had a better than 50-50 chance of happening, one person familiar with the Knicks thinking said they will not include guard Toney Douglas, a native of Atlanta, or Landry Fields in a Crawford package, which has damaged the chances of this going down."

I bet if Baron Davis is amnestied and makes it through waivers, the Knicks will relent and give up TD in and S and T for Craw.

Baron Davis and Jamal Crawford on the same team will be 2 Advils a game for every Knick fan.

Despite being injured, Toney Douglas average 16 points per 36 minutes (basically starters' minutes).

I don't think Cleveland would leak out that Davis has a bad back, if they are going to amnesty him.
They would look to save money, hoping someone would take the bulk of his salary off.
In fact Cleveland would want everyone to outbid each other...

Our roster spot's are limited enough, if these sources are true, we should probably back off...

RonRon @ 12/12/2011 8:24 PM
At 2.5m, its fine to pick up Crawford. But I wouldn't lose players for him...

He deserves more then that.

From what it's sounded like, 2.5 M was never an option. We'd be sending players primarily so we can get Jamal in the 5-6 M range (which is still a sizable decrease in salary for him).

Well, like I said, not many players can adjust to their play after their age. Some can, Some don't Jamal know and his agent know's it could happen to him as well.
He isn't worth giving up assets for, if injuries doesn't happen to him this year, it's a great possibility that it will happen within the 3 years, and the biggest question would be
if he will be able to adjust. Will he be a big drop off from production.

We watched players like

Gilbert
Finley
Houston
Glen Rice
Steve Smith
Mashburn
Vashon Leanard
Iverson
Marbary
Billups

and many others. We are comparing JC, playing at his best, and we are discounting the improvement and injury in TD.
One player is headed down and one player just started to go up...

It's obvious who he better defender is.
I would rather target someone else at 2.5m then trade TD with anyone for Crawford at his age for 3year + contract for 5m/per year

Shawne Wiliams???

Anything is a chance, I understand that. And for the Crawford lovers, you have your own opinion as well.

Besides

Balkman
Walker
if we have any 2nd rounders in the future still available, go for it

with Balkman being a liability, I am not willing to part with more or pay that above salary for him for 3years+.

2-3 years at about 12m at 3 years is my limit, in terms of money, his production, and his risks.
And as for asset's ic TD lighted it up last year, many games, with a bad shoulder.
It's his 2nd year, he hit like 5-8 3pointers and many games with good FG and 3pt %....

This Green guy look's like Chandler/ a better shooting Brown from the video/highlights.
I want to promote team play and good ball movement, not 1v1 playing styles....

crzymdups wrote:all the jamal math-o-logists need to sit down. he'd be a good fit here.

The question is, at what price and for what assets?

I want to build on the defense not subtract from it. I don't want liabilities.
Barea is not going to block any shots. But you don't think EVERY team tried to post him up and cause a mismatch?
He held is own a lot and received help from his team but he does stay in front of his man, limiting his moves!
Jamal just stands 3 feet away and occasionally reaching for the steal....

Ic TD, as a 6th man type role similar to Terry with better defense. He is still far from it but he just started developing his shot for 2 years here, come on...
There are other area's he has to work on as well.

mid range game
penetrating
and knowing when to cheat and when to play em host

The communication and help Chandler will provide, will start us off to the correct path.
Majority of the times, when you trade a player at this age, the younger player usually makes out.
Jamal is becoming 32 in March He came in the league at 2000.

He is infamous for doing 1v1 moves, dribble, dribble, crossover, pull up!
If he loses athleticism and loses ability to penetrate then what?
Loses legs on lift and jump shot..

He amazingly has a 6'10 wingspan.

Players like Ray Allen and Nash, I would take a shot at them for 2-3 more years in the summer.
They take care of their body and have worth ethic on the court and are true professionals.
I don't get that feeling from Jamal Crawford.
Most importantly, they have high basketball IQ, that they use to adjust for their loss in their physical games..

TLover @ 12/12/2011 10:16 PM
Now that Barea is gone to Timberwolves, the focas should be on Crawford & Shawn Williams.

I think I would take a chance of trading TD, Walker & Balkman for Crawford and sign Williams.

The key is Shumpert. If he can learn from vets like Bibby & Crawford he can develop into our future point guard.

Crawford would be a perfect 3rd scoring option for us off the bench.

Rotation:

Pg: Bibby, Shumpert
Sg: Fields, Crawford
Sf: Melo
Pf: Amare, Williams
C: Tyson, Jefferies

ramtour420 @ 12/12/2011 10:25 PM
Anyone who thinks Crawful would not be starting over Fields needs a reality check imho, unfortunately. Fields was starting last year because we had NO shooting guard on the team.

Iman could be our improved version of Crawford. I think he will end up being a starting 2. That is, unless Fields proves his worth and cements his place in the starting lineup.

Right now I'd sign the GSW guard that wasn't offered the qualifying offer, look for another/wait on Davis and get ShawnE.

If Crawford returns it will be the first step in the process to bring back Cap'n Zeke. Mark my words.

Yeah, but only after we trade Amar'e for Z-Randolph and bring Marbury from Venus.

why would you start JC with 2 top 10 scorers in your starting line up already..

it's not so much who is better than whom, but rather who fits better with the starters and off the bench.

And clearly, IMHO, Fields better with the starters and Crawford better scoring punch off the bench in 6th man role.
