it's not so much who is better than whom, but rather who fits better with the starters and off the bench.

And clearly, IMHO, Fields better with the starters and Crawford better scoring punch off the bench in 6th man role.

I agree and I think D'Antoni would see it this way too. Plus, at the end of games you will likely see a different line up closing out, one that could very well include Craw, Melo and Amar'e, depending on how the game has gone and matchups.

loweyecue @ 12/13/2011 6:45 AM
I agree we need a third scorer. I am still not sold on Crawford.
Someone suggested Peja in a different thread can we get him? I also agree with RonRon, we shouldn't give up assets for Crawford who is on the verge of decline, unless Basketballjones' wet dream is coming true.

why would you start JC with 2 top 10 scorers in your starting line up already..

Exactly. They want Jamal for a 6th man role and to provide scoring off the bench.

ONe would hope that after nearly 100 mil in earnings Craw would want to be part of something that can be special.

He has interest from other teams who are willing to pay more and its likely he will have a larger role.
We are asking him to come for significantly less, and on top of that, we are unsure(& probably wouldn't) about if he would even be a starter.
I can't see this happening still.

i honestly think if he came here that d'antoni would have him starting in the backcourt and running the offense. toney is not a point guard. watch the highlights from yesterday's practice where he threw a simple lob to tyson chandler two feet over his head and repeat: toney is not a point guard.

about his earnings - if we sign him to a one year deal for $2.5M... can we give him more money in the following summer?

maybe we can convince him to come here, be part of what's clearly going to be a winning team that is high profile and raise his market value a bit. he can then either re-sign in NY for more money or go into the free agent market in 2012 when more teams have cap room and he might be able to get a bigger deal from a team that's made a lot of space for Deron, CP3 or Dwight and then loses out and wants to overpay someone.

it's actually not a horrible plan for jamal. knicks are on national TV 20 times and then the playoffs. he'd be much more high profile here and probably put up higher stats. good move for his market value.

not for nothing....but if he was going to sign, he would have done so already. I'd look for the announcement that Extra E is rejoining the team

The Knicks Fix
Via @ESPNSteinLine, Pacers made 2x$5m offer to Jamal Crawford. Double what #Knicks can offer.

good news, now can we please sign our own Williams? He shot great and defended very well for us.

still think it's the smarter move economically and career-wise for jamal to come to NY, which is probably why he hasn't signed that pacers offer yet.

must be giving the pay cut serious thought if he hasn't already scooped up the lucrative offers. those offers won't stand forever. or...

...maybe he's just playing us for leverage #granthill

Nalod @ 12/13/2011 4:17 PM

He had first playoff success in ATL and I would hope winning is important to him.

Be good if we can pay him next year to make up for it.

Can't we resign Shawn WIlliams and go over the cap?

don't think so. bird rights don't kick in until 3 years (or maybe 2 for early bird - not entirely sure; but you definitely need more than 1 year on the same time to have them).

well- I think things haven't completely played out yet.

I'm thinking the Lakers here- they're still waiting to make some moves- who knows what moves are still out there for him to consider once other things fall into place...

hmmm... lakers with the trade exception?? could they send it to ATL in a sign and trade? interesting. hadn't thought of that.

well, the resolution should be forthcoming. not much longer that these teams and players can linger out there in limbo.

Reasons he could come here (given less pay and smaller role):

- We overpayed him before, so underpaying him now would average it out. (not credible)
- After experiencing awful knicks in NY, he'll wanna check out what a good team is like (possible)
- Apparently he likes the NY area (whatever that means)
- Knicks would be pretty close to being a solid contender and he'd be a big reason why (best reason)

Reasons he won't

- Big paycut to come here and he won't be a starter

I'd say it's possible, especially since he hasn't accepted the bigger offers out there. Must be weighing it out at least

RonRon @ 12/13/2011 5:12 PM
he signs with Pacers for 10m for 2 years, with the ability to opt out in the summer...

Honestly, the market isn't very high on him.

Money wise, it's not much more considering it is only for 1 extra year.
It looks though, the league and market, agrees with me, that he is a player at his age, with a lot of downside...

He chose the team, where he can the opportunity to take big shots, most likely between Granger, David West, Crawford.
They have a very nice young team as well. This is a sign that he was wants to take the big shots and not be a distributor that we needed.
Although, it is a very young team, its a pretty balanced core. I wish him the best.

He will split time with

Collison/Crawford
George hill/Crawford
Granger
West
Hibbert

seems unlikely to trade for Mayo now with their crowded back court, still a possibility though.
But they would need need another player to replace Roberts.

Brandon Rush
Dantay Jones
Aj Price

George Hill
Tyler Hansbrough
McRoberts
Foster

At the price Cleveland pay for Anthony Parker 2.25 mill or something for 1 year, it would have been nice to add him, although we could still use Shawne Williams.
Peja would fit in as nice player off the bench for us as well.
if we can't resign Shawnee, I hope we get Ak47 for 2.5m 2 years....
I also like the Green and Hunter, would like to keep them, however, if we sign Jordan, we would only have 1 roster spot.

Shawne Williams
Peja
Ak47

I knew this Fishlips signing is going to haunt us, we need roster spots. But I believe we can send 1 player to D League.
So I would be very happy if we just sign

Peja for the shooting role
and
Shawne or Ak47 for the 2.5 exemption for 2 years.

Don't mind having all 3 at all, did we use our Bi annual exemption last year with Mosgov, cap room, and is it still available to us this year to use?

I really think we should buy out Balkman, if he comes in this year with no new skills and lack of improvement?
Isiah gave the opportunity to him to produce as a 1st rounder.
Like any pick, it depends on how much they improve, continue to work in practice, and in the off seasons.
If the pick, decides not to improve, they wont be able to continue to play in the NBA level.

Walker still has upside to him and can be a shooting threat, I would prefer him over Balkman if he isn't a professional at his level.
Balkman is probably the better defender, if he just continued to work on his game, he could be a rotational player...

i think the idea that he won't start over young guys like toney, iman and landry is false.

Craw declined the Pacers offer.
