All That against the Top defending Power Forward in the League.
He didn't look like himself against the Nets either. I don't think Amare is suffering physically. I think he is adjusting to playing with Tyson in a halfcourt style where the offense runs through Anthony.
Amar'e needs to take one for the team and realize that his role has changed. He is no longer the first option on offense, and his defense is spotty, at best. A stronger post presence as well as a lift in his defensive and rebounding efforts would help the team greatly. Bass was eatig his lunch in the paint yesterday. Corrections must be made!

I assume he's not going to hit 8 of 11 every night. I hope he doesn't just become a 17 and 8 player.

No way should a player of Amares calibre only get 11 shots while our two combo guards put up 19 and 13 respectively. Thats not on a Amare, thats on the pg's or lack thereof and the headcoach to reign-in his guards and tell them to stop jacking up shots at the first sign of pressure from the D.

Exactly.
Toney Douglas has turned into a caddy with the sole assignment to bring the ball across halfcourt. Or hoist away. Everything Douglas does in the halfcourt is determined by where defenders shade him, guiding him where they want him to go. Many times, defenders push him further away from the hoop. Six of his misses were from 16 feet or further out, including four missed three point attempts. Not exactly where you want your "lead" guard hoisting from.
On the other hand, there were three of Shumpert's 13 attempts, taken from 2 feet in or closer, that barely slipped off the rim after he made a valiant charge inside the paint for the layup. He also missed an 11 footer. Shump missed the only three he attempted. That is four additional "good" shots, that I GUARANTEE will drop when he settles down.

Becoming a 17,8 player on this team could be a good thing. It would tell me two things: there is a clear hierarchy and the men understand their roles, and there is not much slack to pick up because all players are fulfilling their duties.

Good points on Shump, but on a few of his misses he was a little off balance and rushed a few of his shots in the paint which caused the ball to roll off. Its understandable, though. First NBA game of his life was on the MSG stage, Christmas morning vs tne Celts before a national audience. He just needs to pace himself a bit and understand he doesn't have to go 100mph everytime he darts into the lane. Also, look over your shoulder for a roller coming in from behind or from the baseline. With that said, love his aggressiveness....He plays like he blongs...
He looks fine, he's just not meshing with Melo at this point. When Melo is on the floor we are not running any plays for Amare. We need to get this offense more balanced. Melo was hitting everything yesterday, but when he's not doing that we need to be running plays for Amare. Amare is a much more consistent threat.
Amare played tough D on Garnett and Bass all game
TD is not a PG period
And Melo was the show
Next game against David no D Lee Anare will beast

Except for that game-saving block in the final seconds.
If Dantoni doesnt run a ton of plays for stat vs. Lee, its a huge coaching fail. Stat should beast vs. Lee.

Dlee is just as good guarding Stat as most PF's in the league. He is as good as his blind side help is. Dlee did not have any.
Amare I hope wants the W more than beasting.

Yikes. DLee is a total disgrace as a man to man and help defender. But Im sure we've argued enough about that in the past.
A good coach with a strategy would look to exploit DLee with our superior front court scorers. Here's hoping that's part of the plan.
Both Amare and Lee are awful defenders.
Amare is simply a superior scorer.
i actually think David Lee would fit this squad better, except for the help defense part for blocks.
Lee is very ambidextrous, finishing with a variety of moves with the left or right hand.
With the offense run through Melo, Lee wouldn't need as many looks as Amare.

But then we would need a second scorer after Melo.

Lee can put up 20 PPG on 55% shooting. That does't qualify as a second scorer? He'll also contribute 3 to 4 assists a game (which might actually lead this team).

Come on! You act like you never saw Lee with the Knicks, right? Lee might be the best third scorer of a contending team, but with the game on the line and double teams covering your star Melo, Lee won't get the same scoring Amar'e will. Lee is a rebounding machine, that is true, but even in defense and scoring, you always have to go with Amar'e.

But One Possession at end of the Game..I trust Amare Tenfolds over Lee. Amare has come up big in the big stage defensively even back to his rookie season with that monster block on Duncan in the playoffs.
David Lee is a quality player that you add to an already good team. You cannot build around him. The Knicks became relevant the second they replaced Lee with Amar'e.
Now, on a team like Miami, I'd argue that Lee and, say, Brandon Rush/Charles Jenkins/Klay Thompson and a pick would be better than Bosh. But then again, Miami is easily (and unfortuantely) the best team in the NBA
