Knicks · Carmelo trade killed the future (page 1)

This trade will continue to be the most polarizing in the history of the franchise, but when you really break it down this trade robbed us of our depth, flexibility and turned a superstar into a complimentary all-star.
When you supposedly have the best frontcourt in the NBA there is no excuse to get manhandled on the boards and blown out on back to back nights.

The combination of Chandler, Felton, Gallo outweighs what Carmelo brings. We have no offensive cohesion, there is no ball movement, guys are just standing around and we have no one left to space the floor. The trade also negatively impacted our remaining starters; Landry looks lost out there and Amare looks like a completely different player.

We have a center and power forward who thrive on playing with talented point guards and we have no one to get them the ball. We allowed a player with virtually no options play in New Jersey or resign with Denver to gut our team because he wasn’t savvy enough to sign the same contracts that Lebron, Wade and Bosh entered into.

When you’re season depends on Baron Davis and rookie; it’s sobering especially since paying three guys 52MM. I know it's a short season, but we don't have defensive guys to fall back on. Intensity shouldn't take nights off.

This IS the team for YEARS so much risk with the all in attitude --- One injury and this team is a 20 win team with no draft picks

Those guys we traded to get Melo weren't taking this team anywhere.

The PG thing is a big issue but this is where D'Antonio needs to earn his check. D'Antoni is getting exposed big time. Dude needs to adapt.

you may be 100% correct with everything you said but its only been 3 games. If they are still playing without a team concept come April and melo/amare can't figure out how to work together, then MDA will be fired and a new system that hopefully compliments the players will be instilled

I think we were better set up for the future with what we had

The amare signing really hurt our future.

It all started with the Allan Houston signing.

The Felton-Amare combo was close to unstoppable. Amare avg 20 sumthin points, felton 17 and 9.
Gallo and chandler did the rest, and all we needed was a Center. And pre trade we were a dangerous team, now we're a predictable team

before the H20 signing it started with Ewing demanding a trade and the Knicks trading him for nothing but over the hill, overpaid allstars Baker/Rice then overpaying for shandoneiselyspoon. H20 100mil 7yr extension was the dagger. What did we get out of it 2yrs of mediocrity than the microfracture ends his career

A comedy of errors.

It all started with Dolan taking ownership of the organization

Yeah, except for starting the season 3-8. Or the 6 game losing streak in January. Or their 28-26 record just before the trade.

Wow, this thread is sad.

You know guys its good to let things go. I hate the results as much as you, guys. I don't fully believe in the "too early" line but in this case, where you go back in time to say how we are doomed now, I gotta say

ITS TOO FREAKING EARLY!

Briggs- Any team with stars is an injury away from a bad season. The fact you haven't had one doesn't make you immune to one so cut the propaganda.

The time travelers- this franchise has made many mistakes but right now they have probably made the best ones recently. This team healthy can go against anybody. The fact that we are terrible without a PG, well, speaks more about the system. Its D'antoni's job to make this work before we get our players back. He actually did it last season with the pre-Melo team and could do it again. Lets give it time.

H20 and Ewing have nothing to do with this anymore.

KnicksFan - your writing deserves it's own column. "The Time Travellers" is absolutely perfect.

I miss Iman Shumpert

Yeah we were the most dangerous 9th best team in the east last year before the trade. Please, that team was going no where. That team was also predictable, we knew we were going to lose to the elite whenever we matched up with them....Last years team loses on Christmas day.

Arent u the poster who just stated this is a mess? Im concerned with this team starting last year when we made that trade and stopped posting to me its just the same formula that has plagued the knicks for a dozen years(instant gratification) without giving thought to + or - when making the big moves

The problem here is that we have posters wainting for this current team to fail so they can complain. But when we are winning they have nothing good to say. I call that HATING.

Yeah, that's the problem. HATING is causing this team to stink.

I didn't like the Melo trade, and I haven't enjoyed watching Knicks games since (I just seem to get bored), but whats done is done.

Keeping Chandler, Mosgov, Felton and Gallo was no guarantee of success, as while it was great to have them all on cheap contracts, they will be coming up for big pay days this season and next. Once they'd all been re-signed to big money then we would have had just as little flexibilty as we do now. Are Felton, Gallo, Chandler and Mosgov a championship level team? No, not really. And there is a bit of nostalgia creeping in- people were turning against Felton his last few weeks with us. Gallo was showing no improvement and Mosgov seemed to never recover from Blake Griffins dunk on him. Wilson Chandler was great though.

At the start of last season we were complaining about how bad the offense was, how we lacked chemistry, how Felton couldn't run this system etc etc- it took them weeks to get up to speed. heck, I find it hilarious that back in the Ewing days, and even with the 1999 team, we were always whining and panicking and in the midst of a crisis- then you look at those teams records!- we never appreciate what we have, we always over react, we have no patience, then we get overly nostaligic.

I was not big of the Melo trade at all but i am not putting any of the blame on him.
Melo has done everything to try to complete his game,I ever bitched about him, in all areas of the game.
Whether it is defense, passing the ball, being a leader, coming in during training camp in shape, being a leader which I never thought he truly was, accepting all the blame, and taking the challenges ahead. In the end, with the Amnesty, we got back Tyson Chandler, Baron Davis, and a 2.5m exception to use this year. We lost Billups and Turiaf, Billups isn't a PG at this age, he is better suited to play a SG. He doesn't have the ability to penetrate or guard quick/fast guards. Turiaf could be used right now for sure but we can get a player of his production for the veterans minimum.

I loved the old team, they were starting to get the system for once and played as a team. Tyson Chandler added to that team was what we really needed.
We expected to have a slow start this season, I personally expected to see bad nights for the first 10-20 games.
Once Iman went down, I knew it was going to be tough with Baron Davis also sidelined. He was the only person that was capable of attacking the basket, with BD hurt.
I hope Jeremy Lin gets some playing time and TD learns something or Dantoni has to realize he is not a PG. Let him play that 6th man role, its a totally different perspective
to be a starting PG and a 6th man role as a scorer/defender.

We have been exposed, they know Tyson Chandler and Amare are looking to block shots, and both would leave their guys.
TD and Fields are both not starting material, they can not penetrate the basket and have the foot speed or quickness to stay in front of their guys. Amare has to box out and not be looking to look to block a shot every time. We win as a team and lose as a team, I hold the team and Dantoni responsible. The inability that TD and Fields can't penetrate, create their own shot, and create for others is causing most of our problems. We played a lot better yesterday than at GS, I don't mind yesterdays loss at all.

We still have hope for this team, I love how Tyson Chandler is the leader of the defense. We still have the 2.5m to add a 2 year player this year and 3 exemptions to use in the summer to finish building our depth. This is a totally new team we all knew they need time to get it together but they are players that try to look to get better. We are going through some tough times right now but we aren't done building on what we have. Bibby PT should be decreased the way he is playing. Jeremy Lin should get a look at the PG minutes at Kings or after the year. I never thought I would say this but we also miss some minutes from JJ.

We need another PF/C that has quickness, hustle, and athleticism to play with Chandler for Amare, as well as when Chandler goes to the bench.
Ak47 would be my preferred player over Kenyon Martin. Prizbilla is more of a center, although he can be used with this team. He has been hurt last year but he would be a good player that can be a double double threat to come in for Chandler. Give it some time guys. We need a SG that can penetrate and stay in front of our defenders. Fields and TD need to return to our bench and could be quality players for our 2nd unit. We need to have these bad games to point out our problems on film. It can be corrected, our players and coaches are all accountable.

LOL! The problem really is the many fans who are desperate to believe things will get better and will financially support the team every time Dolan starphucks.
