What does low grade Melo hate mean? I see a lot of MDA hate but none directed towards Melo.

MDA love = low grade Melo hate by proxy

Yeah, D'Antoni screwed us last year.
Good thing he left some playbook pages for Woodson to use!
We don't use SSOL but we shoot a lot!
Thats a good thing, and Im not complaining.
Defense won in PHX the other day! Some key steals!
Good coaches are able adapt to the roster and aren't too proud to beg, borrow and steal from other coaches. Thats a quality that Woodson possess and was much needed. Unable to adapt and pure stubborness was MDA's undoing....Perhaps if MDA borrows that page from Woodson (adaptability), he'll be a better coach in the near future...
Honestly, MDA did exactly what I would have done - try to get Melo to take better shots. He didn't even get one full season with Melo. Woodson had the advantage of hindsight - he saw what didn't work under MDA. If Melo keeps playing like this (hitting 45% of his 3s), MDA will continue to look awful. If Melo regresses towards his career averages though, people will see the validity to what MDA was trying to do.
You have it all wrong. Woodson has Melo taking better shots. Posting up, working with Hakeem et. And Melo is shooting 46% from the field and from 3 because of it. Dantoni wanted Melo sttrictly on the perimeter in the corner
Bingo. MDA doesn't use those plays because they "slow things down" too much, just like a conventional center.

MDA love = low grade Melo hate by proxy
which in turn = moderate grade Lin hate and high grade Felton love.

Bonn, do you think MDA is "trying" to have kobe take "better" shots?
Hard to say. Kobe has been very efficient this year but I don't know who to attribute that to. I don't see any evidence that MDA is encouraging or accepting bad shots.

Very simple.
You'll notice I left out the Dolan vomit reflex through a rounding process.
Bonn reviewing and bumping 11-month-old threads he clearly dominates: priceless.

Ah ... Kobe has been more efficient this year. You know why? Because he is hitting his (awful) shots. Sound familiar?

I haven't watched much but that wouldn't surprise. All that means though is that the data from MDA coaching him are inconclusive and there isn't any clear relevance to this thread then.

I was a participant but I don't see how you can say I dominated the thread (prior to today). Regardless, it definitely wasn't an "I told you so." I didn't predict anywhere that the team would be playing this well by December.

Small sample size / too early to tell.
People are saying that Kobe likes MDA and vice versa. Kobe is the ultimate system breaker and I will be very curious to see how that relationship goes.
Fortunately for MDA, he has Nash now and he (Nash) commands respect even from Kobe. If Nash stays healthy then he will make MDA look good. If not, all hell breaks loose and MDA will get re-exposed.
Just my prediction.

Fair enough. I think this was the perfect roster for 2010 but these guys are too old now. Pau is done. Howard looks good but not great. I think Nash will play at a very high level and Kobe at a reasonably high level though. The west is extremely deep. I have a tough time imagining this Lakers team getting out of the 2nd round under any coach.

With Nash playing at a high level, there is no excuse for this team to not be right up there with the best of the west. We can blame Howard but that would be the easy way out.
Kobe's numbers are far better this year (efficiency wise) too (though his shot selection is abominable). Compare this Lakers team to last years team and this one is far better.
I think they can beat anyone in the west if Kobe allows Nash to run the team which is a big if.
Howard will also be much happier once Nash starts taking over this team and they share the ball.
MDA will be irrelevant to this team win or lose. Its all about Nash.

Maybe but look how good the other teams in the west are. Durant is arguably the best player in the world and CP3 is basically a younger version of Nash with better defense. And the Spurs have hall-of-famers quietly playing outstanding basketball.

Yes but CP3 is not playing with Kobe, Howard, Gasol and MWP
Durant still has Westbrook on the team to screw everything up
The Spurs are much older and may put up a fight but probably a fruitless one
Howards defense is the difference maker that nobody is looking at and he is still recovering and getting healthier
I'm not counting on much from Gasol and I think MWP is just an average player. Dwight is the X factor. I don't know if he will get better and better as the year goes on or worse and worse as more wear and tear builds up.

Gasol healthy can still be an extremely valuable player and he is an excellent passer.
MWP can play solid annoying defense and hit crazy shots when you need it most (he can also take dumb shots like JR)
Howard is a crap shoot but I am betting on him excelling by end of season as long as Nash stays healthy.
Nash's health is everything here. He is almost unstoppable in the PnR. Just look what he did last year in PHX with stiffs galore. The man is a genius and probably the best shooter I have ever seen.
The dumbest thing I've read is that MDA is irrelevant as long as they have Nash. WTF??? Why then do you fire Brown if you think it made no difference if they ran the Princeton offense with Nash as the PG versus MDA's offense with Nash? It sure as hell makes a difference that MDA is the coach along with Nash. Nash is free to be Nash in MDA's offense and trust me that's what Alvin Gentry was running. GTFO with this kind of crap.
This Laker team has some real issues and it's not a typical MDA type of team. There's only so much that any coach could do with this Laker team. It's a big slow team with not enough quality role players. Everything is in the top 5 guys. Still if they can manage to come together and figure out just who and what they are they can be a very tough team in the playoffs where things tend to slow down just a bit, which helps them. They still have a ways to go in terms of execution and chemistry.

I did not mean to kick off your MDA alarm. Just stating my opinion which is my 1st amendment UK right.
Go back to sleep.
MDA should thank NASH every time he says a silent prayer as to why he is even relevant.
