Literally, you do give up the farm for him. Orlando can pick whoever they want on our roster and tell us to take back whatever contracts they want us to.

And so what has been learnt from the melo trade experience? Absolutely nothing at all...

Nothing that would have bearing on acquiring Dwight Howard could be learned from the Melo scenario. It's apples and oranges - it's Marbury and Shaq.
To be clear, I'm not saying you *tell* Orlando that they can have any trade they want.
TheGame @ 1/23/2012 3:56 PM
The thing we can learn from the Melo trade is that you need support players to build a team. If Iman can get his shot selection together, there is no reason to believe this kid could not be a 18-20 point scorer and All-NBA defensive selection. That is a substantial asset. To give up Amare, Tyson, and Iman when all this current team really needs is a pg would not be the best deal for us. If that is Orlando's asking price, I would call their bluff and see if they would really risk losing Howard for nothing. This present team can win with the addition of a solid PG. We don't need to go all in again like we did with Melo.
RonRon @ 1/23/2012 5:09 PM
they will not lose Dwight Howard for nothing.
He is clearly the best Center in the league by far, they are just not rushing things, and will wait for the best deal to come.
Every team in the league wants to acquire him, GM's will continue to offer deals towards the end of the deadline, and Orlando know team's will outbid each other for their services.

Knick's are currently struggling, Orlando is not, we are not the only team that can give them a good package.
IF we are serious about trading with Orlando it will have to start off with

Chandler
Melo

no one is taking Amare with the way he is playing and having an uninsured contract.
Because they took a shot with Gilbert, they will not repeat the same mistake in less than a year away.
That is the same reason why we didn't take a good look at Jennings after having a cancer PG in Starbury.

In addition,
Orlando, will try to unload Duhons with Q, and see who will roll the dice on those bad contracts, in addition to a serviceable Turkeglu.

If you were Orlando, would you rather have

Bynum
Gasol

or

Chandler
Melo *which is a ball stopper, a volume scorer currently shooting a horrible %, and does NOTHING to improve the players around him?*

We don't know if Laker's are willing to part with both players, but we will know heading up to the All Star Break and deadline.
Even if Laker's aren't willing to part with both players, TEAMS in the League will throw out better offers than, Chandler and Amare.
Dwight Howard and Turkoglu *serviceable* with the bad contracts of Duhon and/or Q.
Its very possible they would be willing to include Ryan Anderson because he is a younger poor mans Dirk but with Orlando being a RFA and Orlando having
about 85million of salary already, they might not be willing to pay for his services this summer.
They will be looking to get back as many young prospects, future picks, and "all star" and "star" players.

its debatable, which direction they would rather have, but its a no brainer it is not worth discussing with Amare.
I don't know if it is worth trading, if we had to give up Iman in addition to Chandler/Melo, but I know our current lineup is not meshing...

The bidding will go to their advantage because EVERYONE wants Dwight Howard, knowing he can single handly makes almost any team instant contenders, as the most dominant center in the league.
center for the next 5 - 6 years to build around.

simrud @ 1/23/2012 5:31 PM
This is crap, how many times are we going to trade everybody? Every year? How about getting a coach who can make it work with the players we have?
airchibundo507 @ 1/23/2012 5:49 PM
either trade Amare or don't make a move at all
skeng @ 1/23/2012 8:46 PM
Didn't Ewing advise Dwight not to come here? And would he even sign with us after this season? Also, Chandler and Amare isn't that far off a deal. Stat is 29, not 37. Chandler brings a lot of the same things Dwight does defensively, including better communication. I wouldn't be surprised to see Orlando playing close to the same ball they are now with their current roster minus Dwight and Turk, + STAT and Chandler. Stoudemire is still Stoudemire, perrenial all star, he is just in bad shape as a lot of other guys are - Dirk anyone?

And as much as everyone in the league wants Dwight, Dwight only wants a chosen few. On the top of my head, Lakers, Nets, Clippers, Dallas? So that leaves some sparse options, especially if the Lakers doesn't want to part with Bynum.

The farm is already gone.

You need this kid to be even be competitive.

You gotta draw a line somewhere.

I brought topic up a few days back..Stephen A. must of read my post

This could also be a ploy by Orlando to raise the offer from the Lakers to include both Gasol & Bynam.

Either way, the Knicks need to do everthing possible to get D. Howard (even if it includes Shumpert)

Also from a business point of view, keeping Howard away from the Nets would keep the Knicks as the only game in town.

Although I would follow up with Melo to the Nets for D. Williams & their draft picks.

Yeah I would follow up with a Melo for Dwill.

Build a better team around Dwill and Howard. Two hardest positions to find talent like that.

I think its fun to keep changing it up.

When I play basketball, we sometimes mix up the teams twice in one night.

Makes it so much more exciting (especially when that all we can get)!

When you cannot win anything mixing it up can keep it entertaining.
Isn't it what Dolan is thinking? It should be some logic in his madness.

I find this all very theatrical - its like a car crash - you don't want to look but you need to look. And, you look.

I would not trade Melo for Dwill. PG is one of the easiest positions currently to find talent. We will be headed into the summer with the opportunity to add Nash, Felton, Miller, and a ton of other quality PGs. If we were to lose Melo, who would we replace him with? Maybe Wilson Chandler comes back at a discount, but there aren't a lot of options.

I am for trading Stoudemire and Chandler for Howard and Turk because i consider Howard the most valuable NBA player at the most valuable position. But whether you have a core of Melo and Stat or Howard with DWill, you still lack the supporting cast to become a good team. They may be a better mix together, but that is irrelivent with the supporting cast we have. My point is you don't shuffle your best players just because they aren't winning, you need to diagnose the problem. Both of them are struggling but they are not the problem. The problem is still the problem whether you have our two top players or 2 other top NBA players. If you want to trade our 2 guys for better players fine, but you are wanting to trade them for the wrong reasons, because you someone think DWill and Dwight will solve the problems that Melo and Stat can't. That will not happen.

I think that Dwill with Howard fits better. Dwill will make everyone on the court better. He will make Dwight better. Melo doesn't make his teammates better. I think with Dwill and Howard this will be a better team. I think Dwill and Howard will both make their teammates better.

DWill would fit very well with DHoward.

But if PG "is one of the easiest positions" to find, we wouldn't be on where we are now.
