Knicks · How would other HOF players do in this offense? (page 2)

That's it. That's how you defend this team.
That doesn't work if you have player and ball movement, That's why people complain about Melo cuz he holds the ball and allows the defense to double him much more easily than if he was scoring within the offense on catch and shoot or cuts to the basket. Melo is a -83 in the last 7 games whereas the bench is a +17. The offense was more efficient during Linsanity than it has been since Melo came back! The defense was more efficient during Linsanity too. There were concrete reasons this team was winnning games and most of it was defense.
When you have STAT and Melo out there to start the 3rd quarter, we've lost all of them except 1 in the last 5 games. Neither of them is BOOSTING the performance of the team. Yeah Melo got hot recently but we're allowing more points too!!! Our Stars are a net negative for us!!! Our scrubs were a net positive.
I disagree. The offense has been awful without Melo or Amar'e too. Either +/- 17 over 7 games basically means the team is treading water. The second team *only* looks good when it's transition game is firing on all cyclinders. Have them in a half court set and that story changes dramatically. I have seen +/- poorly used as a defensive statistic, but never as an ofensive statistic.

Then you do understand the point. We know the scrubs aren't great offensively. The idea is that the defense was so much better and created more easy scoring opportunities, that it ended up making the offense more efficient than it's been with our 2 Stars back. Our scrubs play harder and as a team on both ends. Everyone knows the offense wasn't great during the streak, but the defense was much better.

they also played inferior competition as well. a couple wins over la and dallas, ok. but non playoff teams. so you have to factor that in.

You don't take a volume scorer and an effective post threat and reduce their shots and tell them you'll get yours.
but oh yeah, you still need to do your thing to bail us out. This roster doesn't match the system, and since we have the players we have, we must change the coach and philosphy of the team.

There are still ok now, because of probably Karl. There are times when Melo will work hard in the post for position, only to have the ball swing the other way for someone to fling a 3. He is our best Post Player, probably best passer, and this system essentially turns him into a 3pt shooter. The last game, watch him on the boards, he was playing. I didnt think he deserved to be benched, the offense is lost, that falls on MDA.
I have to believe if we lose a few more, he'll be fired. If Woodson is smart, he'll modify the system and players will rally.
I like Lin and I like the up and down, but this aint PHX, we don't have steve nash nor do we have that core of players.
Spot on!
None of those players played or would play in this offense. And they all do / did ISO's!!
It is a good offensive system that can make mediocre players look much better than they are but it does not fit the Kobe / Wade / Melo type of player. Not at all.
Melo's offensive numbers for his career are almost exact to Kobe's. Kobe would suck and bitch and moan here if he was put in this situation - we all know that.
Not nearly my favorite player. Could not care less if we traded him. But you know that - you are just very young and don't want to tell me your age.
He has not done well in THIS SYSTEM.
How old are you? Why can't you say? C'mon - I won't tell.

My guess is between 15 and 20. I am just asking because in college I wrote a paper where I needed to show a correlation between age and writing style. I got pretty good at determining age from reading their content.

In this alternate universe, they would have to defer to Jeremy Lin...They would have to take less shots than the PG and would be an equal option to jack up a three as JJ or any other stiff...I must be living in an alternate universe where JLin takes more shots the Amare nightly...

Because Dwight and Durant won so many titles
My boy's not Melo, never was a big fan of his in Denver, but as a Knick, don't think he's remotely Starbury 2.0. Marbury was a bad bad teammate that would openly throw people under the bus at will. Melo at least attempts to play under MDA's system and tries to say the right thing. Now if we were to go back to the topic at hand, why can't MDA bend his system to fit his personnel? Why can't he post up Melo like a pseudo Triangle offense, and run offense that way? If you watch the games, Melo is a willing passer when double-teamed...I don't get why it has to be PNR, get trapped, give it up to Melo or Amare 20 feet to basket, and watch them ISO...I just don't get it.

I would venture to say that we would see the same result regardless.
You don't take a volume scorer and an effective post threat and reduce their shots and tell them you'll get yours.
but oh yeah, you still need to do your thing to bail us out. This roster doesn't match the system, and since we have the players we have, we must change the coach and philosphy of the team.
At least the Denver team Melo came from was a playoff team in what was a very deep and difficult Western Conference.
In this alternate universe, they would have to defer to Jeremy Lin...They would have to take less shots than the PG and would be an equal option to jack up a three as JJ or any other stiff...I must be living in an alternate universe where JLin takes more shots the Amare nightly...
Could you imagine telling Kevin Durrant that???Or better yet
Could see Dirk waiting to get his touches after PG and the Center!!!
That is a crazy universe indeed my friend.
And JLin is not on the same planet as Amare and Melo..It's this coaches system..but this coach won't last long..It's only a matter of time...
Bingo.Hopefully in lands in a ready made job like LAC, because he isn't a coach that has more than one way of dealing with adversity.

U are wrong....It's not a favorite player thing...Amare and Melo are much better players than JLIn is, period!!!..Has noting to do with favorites..It is Linsanity to think otherwise...U are all caught up in the hype...This is the real world...This isn't college basketball...The Knicks and JLin are now a target, players are gunning for him and he is losing this battle nightly but u all blame Carmelo...Best thing to come of this is MDA will be fired sooner...
