Knicks · How would other HOF players do in this offense? (page 1)
How would Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Paul Pierce, Lebron, DWade, etc, essentially all of the great one on one players feel about not getting their touches.
I would venture to say that we would see the same result regardless.
You don't take a volume scorer and an effective post threat and reduce their shots and tell them you'll get yours.
but oh yeah, you still need to do your thing to bail us out.
This roster doesn't match the system, and since we have the players we have, we must change the coach and philosphy of the team.
At least the Denver team Melo came from was a playoff team in what was a very deep and difficult Western Conference.
There are still ok now, because of probably Karl.
There are times when Melo will work hard in the post for position, only to have the ball swing the other way for someone to fling a 3. He is our best Post Player, probably best passer, and this system essentially turns him into a 3pt shooter. The last game, watch him on the boards, he was playing. I didnt think he deserved to be benched, the offense is lost, that falls on MDA.
I have to believe if we lose a few more, he'll be fired. If Woodson is smart, he'll modify the system and players will rally.
I like Lin and I like the up and down, but this aint PHX, we don't have steve nash nor do we have that core of players.

Spot on!
None of those players played or would play in this offense. And they all do / did ISO's!!
It is a good offensive system that can make mediocre players look much better than they are but it does not fit the Kobe / Wade / Melo type of player. Not at all.
Melo's offensive numbers for his career are almost exact to Kobe's. Kobe would suck and bitch and moan here if he was put in this situation - we all know that.
JCrusher wrote:i just think melo doesnt fit this type of offense and we cant get rid of everybody just to try and suit him. He is a great talent but this was never gonna work here i bet if we goes someplace else he will flourish probably
It can't work here (for Melo) under MDA. It can work under a diff coach / system.
We've tried the whole MDA thing, Melo is the first player in a long time of his caliber that we have had.
You don't have to remove the team, the team is fine, its the philosphy that needs changing.

Not nearly my favorite player. Could not care less if we traded him. But you know that - you are just very young and don't want to tell me your age.
He has not done well in THIS SYSTEM.
How old are you? Why can't you say? C'mon - I won't tell.
All I know is Phil Jackson takes a dump on this system every chance he gets. I know there's some beef between the two but I'll take Phil's word over Pringles every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
End of the day, sharing is a must, but so is featuring your best player when a chip is on the line. We all saw what happens when the system ulitmately features Roger Mason Jr. and Jared Jeffries in the playoffs because they are open. They're open but that's exactly what how the Celtics defense would have drawn it up
He got Melo and Stat back, still losing.
This also coincides with the tougher opponents we've been facing along with a strategy to defend lin.
Yesterday, Philly was doubling Melo, before he got the ball. I was thinking to myself, why are they doing that. NY isn't going to give him enough plays to be effective.
It's so easy to defend against this offense, pack it in on the PG....

Its not loyal, but its an observation about the situation. He hasn't been given a chance to do what he does.
I think right after the trade, you saw games where you saw what he can do.
Games 1 and 2 against Boston is what can happen.
But all these good players require the ball to get into a flow. You can't get into a flow in this offense if your a skilled one on one player.
Michael6835 wrote:It's so easy to defend against this offense, pack it in on the PG....
YUP. Double Lin up top, pack the lane. Leave our terrible thre epoint shooters open and dare them to take the shot.
That's it. That's how you defend this team.

That doesn't work if you have player and ball movement, That's why people complain about Melo cuz he holds the ball and allows the defense to double him much more easily than if he was scoring within the offense on catch and shoot or cuts to the basket. Melo is a -83 in the last 7 games whereas the bench is a +17. The offense was more efficient during Linsanity than it has been since Melo came back! The defense was more efficient during Linsanity too. There were concrete reasons this team was winnning games and most of it was defense.
When you have STAT and Melo out there to start the 3rd quarter, we've lost all of them except 1 in the last 5 games. Neither of them is BOOSTING the performance of the team. Yeah Melo got hot recently but we're allowing more points too!!! Our Stars are a net negative for us!!! Our scrubs were a net positive.

My guess is between 15 and 20. I am just asking because in college I wrote a paper where I needed to show a correlation between age and writing style. I got pretty good at determining age from reading their content.

I disagree. The offense has been awful without Melo or Amar'e too. Either +/- 17 over 7 games basically means the team is treading water. The second team *only* looks good when it's transition game is firing on all cyclinders. Have them in a half court set and that story changes dramatically. I have seen +/- poorly used as a defensive statistic, but never as an ofensive statistic.
