Anyone have an idea what this is going to be about? I hope it's an Aliens prequel

I believe it is an Aliens prequel. It's supposed to be about how the Prometheus came across the Aliens and what happened. Should be awesome.
GustavBahler @ 4/22/2012 10:12 AM
I saw the preview in 3D and it looks great. Nice to see a prequel instead of another sequel.

Yeah, the whole Alien vs. Predator started out as a great idea, but that was decades ago. I'm hopeful Scott and Lindelof can breathe new life into the series.

Good point about AVP. I liked the first one except I thought the female lead was miscast. Good actress, good resume, just not really action material. I really liked Alien Resurrection, different take on the series, but the Ridley character needed retiring.

I agree about Ridley Scott breathing new life into the story. If anyone can do it its Scott.

Brief radio interview with Ridley Scott. Says Prometheus isn't a prequel but takes place on a different planet where the original Alien took place, and thoughts about possible sequels.

I am so fucking pumped for this. Alien was ALWAYS my favorite. I know everyone loves Cameron and Aliens, but I loved the idea as suspense/horror. This should be AMAZING
GustavBahler @ 6/2/2012 6:58 AM
Looking forward to this too. I liked Aliens as much as I like the original. Two very different takes. I was glad that Cameron went a different route rather than trying to copy the original and it was pretty funny at times as well. The only one I didn't really like was 3. The pace was too slow and its a let down to find out who didn't survive the crash.

I'm going to try and see it in Real3D. Like I said, I saw a preview in the theater and it looked amazing. Saw Avatar in another 3D format and it didn't look good at all.

i don't mean to make it sound like I didn't like Aliens. In my experience most people love Aliens a lot more than Alien, and that pisses me off becaused Alien was an awesome film

Got it. I agree, some people were drawn only to the Alien franchise after it evolved into an action flick. Ridley Scott is also doing a sequel to Blade Runner. I have mixed feelings about it. I hope he can pull it off. BTW, I don't know if you have the blu-ray copy, but Blade Runner in HD is fing sick. One of the best transfers out there.

I'm probably in the Blade Runner is overrated camp. It's a good movie and I appreciate the role it played in the cyberpunk subgenre, but it has ways too many flaws for me to consider a classic. I'd prefer it if Scott focused his energies on Prometheus, which is getting some pretty solid reviews across the pond. As for Alien and Aliens, I'm in agreement with Supreme. I like both movies, but Alien is a masterpiece in terror. I always feel compelled to watch it if it's on the tube. Can't wait for June 8 to get here.

I understand Blade Runner is associated with cyberpunk but I was more drawn to the noir aspect of it. Its a great story and its visually stunning, few science fiction films can compete in that respect. Even with all the cgi they have in films today

The only thing I didn't like when I saw it in the theater was the narration, which Ridley Scott took out in subsequent director's cuts. It has the ending he originally wanted to and it works .

Its a great film IMO that resonates more as our technology comes closer to creating artificial beings like the ones we see in the film.

Watched Alien last night in preparation for June 8th - still an amazing film. Probably one of the best movies every made, the cinematography, the suspense, the acting, the set - its all amazing.

They just don't make movies like this anymore.

Not a prequel to Alien, but Scott said that could come later depending on how the film does (check the radio interview above). I'm pretty sure it will do well. I know I'm going to see it.

Blade Runner is a classic of sci-fi. Very few sci-fi flicks are as good or better than Blade Runner. That's the nature of the genre though... Anyway, I really enjoy the flick

It's technically not a prequel but it's in the same universe and has elements from the first 2 movies so I just wanted to get hyped for it. Plus my wife hadn't seen any of the Alien films. We watched the first 2 over the weekend and both still hold up really well.

I also like Alien 3, although I know many dont. Resurrection wasn't that good, but it isn't horrible either. I have high expectations for Promethius, it looks pretty awesome.

I did hear that the aliens are only in a very small portion of the movie and it may just be the last 5 minutes of the film. Regardless, I think Ridley Scott is the type of director that makes movies worth seeing in the theater. Cameron does too.

I liked it. The movie wasn't great but it's better than most of what's out there, plus it was sci-fi which is not common these days.

Could it have been better? Yes. It did answer a lot of questions, but it created new ones. The acting by most of the characters was good. I though Charlize Theron was just ok. It is definitely a prequal but not in the sense of it being all about the alien.
