Knicks · With Chandler, Melo, and Stat probably only having 3 solid yrs left. I can see Knicks brass giving Nash the MLE. (page 1)

this organization has always been about quick fixes and star phucking—not building around a core. i can see Dolan making a demand for Nash to make a push for a ring at the expense of Lin. THAT IS IF NASH WILL EXCEPT THE MLE.

To think that Nash is going to settle for the MLE is nuts. He'll be offered around 10M/yr elsewhere.

gunsnewing @ 5/11/2012 10:22 AM
$10mil to stay in phoenix. He is not taking less the the MLE which the Knicks will give some if not all to Lin
OasisBU @ 5/11/2012 10:28 AM
How is Nash a quick fix? Is he not an upgrade over Lin? Has he had a significant drop off in production?

Sure age is an issue - but the guy is athletic and from what I know he has been pretty durable.

If getting Nash costs us Lin then maybe I see you point, but if we really only have 3 years with our core then you have to get the complimentary pieces now.

I don't see Lin taking us to the finals right now.

blackisblack @ 5/11/2012 10:30 AM
I know I could be wrong as nothing is impossible with this dysfunctional team. But Dolan is not letting go of the goose that lays the golden egg. Who would? Would you?

And Nash will not go to Knicks for less money. Besides, believe it or not, even with Nash, NY will not be a championship team. This is not about lack of talent. They have a mental problem.

Let's see... less money, a team that is not of championship mentality. If you are Nash, it is a no-brainer.

This is all about making as much money as possible.

you just answered your own question. with his resume, he is an upgrade over Lin. but honestly, the dude's 39 yrs old and will probably give you 2yrs tops if he stays healthy and that's why he's a quick fix. HE'S 39 YRS OLD. even Nash said he probably only has 3yrs left tops. and he's not gonna have the medical staff from PHX.

fishmike @ 5/11/2012 10:40 AM
Lin sold more shirts than Kobe. Wake up folks. Resigning Lin *IS* starphucking!

At 40yrs old you have to figure that age will catch up eventually. Why would we sign another aging player at the VERY tail end of his career. Why didnt we acquire him in his prime? Cant you see a trend with the knicks of only going after guys when it is clear no one wants them. Vin Baker, Glen , rice, penny hardaway, tracy mcgrady. Yes Nash might have another year or 2 left in the tank. Is that worth losing you 23yr old PG who is only going to get better and has already shown the mental fortitude to play in NYC? For what a chance to maybe beat the heat, okc for one year or 2max. When you can have Lin for the next decade and hooefully trade Amare for a player that compliments Melo, tyson, Lin & Shump.

Bonn1997 @ 5/11/2012 10:45 AM
If the plan is to actually pursue a championship with this big 3, then it makes more sense to sign Nash than Lin. No one wants to hear it because Lin is our kid and was a great story last season. Nash is still the better player, though, and you need to maximize your performance at each position if you want to compete for a championship. If the plan is to build a good team long-term, it makes more sense to re-sign Lin and also to trade our big 3 for players with more years left and draft picks.
GodSaveTheKnicks @ 5/11/2012 10:46 AM
Pros: At this point in his career Nash is light years better than Lin. Has the knowledge of the league, the game and the respect to make Amare, Melo, Chandler work. Decent team defender

Cons:

- Physically going to get eaten up by the blazing quick, athletic PGs that are everywhere now: Rose, Westbrook, Rondo, Wall, Collison, Lowry, etc

- How does his back hold up without that awesome Phoenix training staff that has helped keep him and Grant Hill healthy. With Nash, Amare, Lin, Shump we'll have a bunch of players with pre existing conditions or coming off an injury

He'll get 2 years, $20 mil elsewhere or the full 5 year MLE from Dolan.
gunsnewing @ 5/11/2012 10:49 AM
Here's a guarantee. Sign Nash for the full MLE and I guarantee you he tears his acl the first week of the season and is out for the year and we are relying on TD to start again because Lin is playing for Brooklyn. Nash is due for hus first acl tear. Now whats better losing your 23yr old pg to a season ending injury or losing a 40yr old pg you just gave $35mil for 5yrs to?
tj23 @ 5/11/2012 10:52 AM
I'd love Nash I would even honestly sacrafice Lin but I dont see him wanting be a part of this mess.

exactly resign Lin & trade amare or worse case scenario put up with amare for 3yrs & let jim come off the books or trade his expiring contract in 2yrs but not for Vin Baker
ChuckBuck @ 5/11/2012 11:02 AM
The one positive to signing Nash, is it automatically raises Amare's value again. No one knows how to deliver the rock to Amare better than Nash.
Nalod @ 5/11/2012 11:02 AM
With lin you actually can have a guy for 6-10 years. He is like us having an extra mid level first round pick that we lucked into.

To basically trade him out for Nash leaves us in a situation were he expires without value and we are depleating because we are not drafting much the next few seasons.

Linsanity showed the true grit of this young man. The question is can he stand the rigors of being a starter and his body stand up to it.

Nash is awesome BTW but I have to think past this current group and recognize we are not really contender status.

Lin is a productive player that can also be traded for value.

If Nash wants to win he has to take a big pay cut. I would be fine with both Lin and Nash as Lin could apprentice and still play big minutes.

But some team will want Lin to start and will pay him.

I like the idea of Kidd backing up Lin.

Unfortunately Nash is not a doctor too. He cant heal Amare's aging back & knees

No it isn't. He is worth more than $5mil per year, which is what we will pay to resign him. Starphucking involves overspending for talent.

Yea I hear you there. But if Nash can raise Amare's game with open jumpers and layups, it'll make him an attractive trade piece.

gunsnewing @ 5/11/2012 11:09 AM
Exactly nalod there are many options out there to backup Lin. Flynn, West, Kidd all can be had for cheap and are upgradeLs over bibby, davis & TD.
