really dude? gonna get testy? well thanks for the memo letting me know reporters have agendas. i'll have to keep that in mind from now on.

sorry, dealing with a lot of testiness. didn't mean to be out of line.

but seriously. the report we heard was "sources say Lin was 85% but didn't want to risk injuring himself going into free agency."

we also heard melo say "don't play jeremy. don't risk it."

i think it's funny that fans hold Lin resting torn meniscus in his knee as a grudge... but not many people bring up that Amar'e has had self-inflicted stupid injuries to kill any playoffs chances two years in a row.

it's alright bro - i figured as much. we usually agree on most things and it's not that i disagree with you about this, i'm just not going to lose sleep over it. i want lin back, i think having him makes us a better team, but i'm honestly just not sold on him. yes, he's 24 and hasn't even begun to enter his prime years yet and yes he played absolutely astonishingly during that 2wk stretch and it was the most fun i've had as a knick fan in the past 10 years. with all that said, i'm still not sold on what kind of basketball player he really is. i didn't see a whole lot that made me think he can put up the same numbers in a half-court offense like the knicks are going to employ and he did have some issues defensively last year and it seems to me like we are going to be employing a much more defensive system this year.

i like lin, i like his story and i like his heart. i will be happy if we bring him back but i also just can't overlook that the fact that he is a very smart kid (which is obvious based on his background) and that if he REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted to make sure that it was a slam-dunk that he came back to the knicks, he wouldn't have signed that re-negotiated deal with houston. i know the knicks were offering less money, (same amount guaranteed just over 1 extra year) but for a kid whose family is already rich (i think i read that) then coming back to NY should have been a priority instead of a couple million dollars. he is the one that signed that offer-sheet with houston, so i do think he is at fault here too.

whatever the case - like i said, i hope we match, but i'm not gonna be pissed if we don't.

Jeter? Are you fukkin insane?

I love Lin but the Jeter comparison is insane. He's more like a minor leaguer and we have no idea whether he'll be say Shane Spencer or Melky Cabrera.

The Jeter comparison may be too high praise, but that's the last rookie I can think of who had that impact and played years savvier than he should have been. It may be too high praise, but that's who he reminded me of.

NBA all-time greats saying similar stuff:

Willis Reed: "Jeremy Lin reminds me so much of Walt Frazier. It's how Jeremy controls the game, gets the ball to the right people for easy baskets, the lobs he's throwing to Tyson Chandler -- it all reminds me of Clyde."

Bob Cousy: "He's got the physical skills to reach a good, very good, or great level in this league. He's exactly what the Knicks needed, a leader and someone to distribute the ball as opposed to a bunch of guys just letting it fly."

Pete Carril: "Jeremy's innocent, he's young, he has no agenda, he throws the ball to the right guy. He's awfully fast, he can shoot, he can dribble and it doesn't look like he cares about playing for stats or money."

Don't get me wrong. He could turn into Derek Jeter and that would kill EVERYONE on this board. If he goes out and has the kind of career Jeter had I'm sure every single posted on this board will go to his grave thinking of what could have been.

But this situation is unique. You can't even say Bryce Harper or Mike Trout cuz those guys had insane hype since HS. I just said Shane Spencer because he's more like that or a Joba Chamberlain having come out nowhere. Better analogy

Jeremy Lin could be:

Joba Chamberlain: Came out of nowhere. King of NY. Now he is...???

OR

Priest Holmes: Undrafted even though he was nasty in HS. Had a pretty f-in good career.

The Knicks are making this personal, and letting their emotions shape a decision that should be made at room temperature. There's no good reason to believe that Lin, a better player than Felton last year, won't be a better player than Felton next year and beyond.

This is why I'm done with this team (until Dolan sells) if they don't match on Jeremy. It's a personal decision and this doesn't make sense from a basketball or financial perspective.

same boat.

Right now, I'm operating on the theory that even a blind squirrel finds a nut. I don't know long I can hold out.
