Melo: Broadway's pretty wide, young buck, but I got a wide butt. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
1. Rod Boone @rodboone
Melo was asked after tonight's game about his characterization of Lin's contract as being "ridiculous." Here's his answer in next tweet.
2. Rod Boone @rodboone
Melo: "It was ridiculous for them to do what they did, as far as throwing that out there and making it tougher on us to sign him back."
3. Rod Boone @rodboone
Why do people think Melo doesn't like Lin? "I don’t know. I can't worry about that. Ask Lin he’ll tell you what a good relationship we have"
4. Rod Boone @rodboone
More Melo on #Lin: "With Jeremy, I know he definitely wants to be back in New York & Dolan definitely wants him back."
5. Rod Boone @rodboone
Melo: "It's just a matter of them figuring it out at this point."
6. Rod Boone @rodboone
Was Melo surprised by the reaction to his comments? "I always get backlash. It's nothing new. It is what it is."

Lin was just as much of a dik for renegotiating a second time with Houston.

there is literally zero evidence that lin initiated the second round of negotiations. for all you know, and the far more likely scenario, is that houston saw all the reports that the knicks were pleased with the offer and would definitely match and decided they needed to take a different approach.
houston OFFERED him more money.
again, this idea that he's supposed to turn down money is absurd. when have you ever done that in your entire life? i haven't.

it's funny how you guys think he re-negotiated. Houston initially gave him a verbel offer and Lin's camp said the Knicks will match whatever you guys throw at him. AND THIS WAS PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE. THE KNICKS WERE VERY OPEN ABOUT MATCHING ANY OFFERS THROWN AT LIN . Coach Woodson was quoted in the press about having Lin as the starter with the assumption that he will come back. So Houston Upped the Ante and the Knicks are now balking. they wanted Lin to get his market value and he did. But you think he's a dik for this well the NBA is full of diks then.

It is also possible that he initiated this (or his agent) cause he'd rather play in Houston.
Is that not possible?

here's how a negotiation goes when a team doesn't want to give you $15M in the third season of a contract.
for instance, let's take Novak and the Knicks.
Knicks: "we're offering you 4yr $15M."
Novak: "what about $15M in the 3rd season?"
Knicks: "LOL"
the idea that Lin could "trick" the Rockets into giving him $15M in the third season is kind of insane.
go into your job tomorrow and ask for $15M. i guarantee that if your job doesn't think you're worht it they won't give it to you. but hey, you never know, maybe you'll be "directly involved" in the discussion and your job will have no choice but to offer you $15M.
does that sound ridiculous yet? houston had pretty much full control of what they offered Lin. they made the offer because they didn't want the knicks to match because they were desperate and had no other point guards.

but i agree, you don't get a better offer from another job unless you're prepared to leave.
but again, the knicks FORCED lin into that position.
and, also, the knicks fired the coach who discovered lin. and that coach will probably pop up in houston in a few months...

Lin was a knick because glen sent him to the dl. Mike resigned and no one is disputing that. He was paid the remainder of his contract and maybe he agreed not to talk. Here is the thing though. He sucked. He sucked really bad. He was extremely ineffective with a very talented roster and once he left the team had the second best record in the nba after he left. I am not sure what he could say except I am sorry.

I believe Lin was directly involve in the renegotiation of his contract with Houston, but I can’t fault the guy for doing what is right for him, considering that he did NOT get a contract from the Knicks and to topped all the Knicks were busy trying to trade for Steve Nash to replace Lin. So why should Lin turn down additional money from Houston?
