Knicks · Foe Melo to open his mouth about what another player makes (page 8)

Lin was just as much of a dik for renegotiating a second time with Houston.
there is literally zero evidence that lin initiated the second round of negotiations. for all you know, and the far more likely scenario, is that houston saw all the reports that the knicks were pleased with the offer and would definitely match and decided they needed to take a different approach.
houston OFFERED him more money.
again, this idea that he's supposed to turn down money is absurd. when have you ever done that in your entire life? i haven't.
Many believe that Lin was directly involved in this secret (re)negotiation/rendezvous
I think you are viewing this completely one sided
You are assuming many things but not this?
here's how a negotiation goes when a team doesn't want to give you $15M in the third season of a contract.
for instance, let's take Novak and the Knicks.
Knicks: "we're offering you 4yr $15M."
Novak: "what about $15M in the 3rd season?"
Knicks: "LOL"
the idea that Lin could "trick" the Rockets into giving him $15M in the third season is kind of insane.
go into your job tomorrow and ask for $15M. i guarantee that if your job doesn't think you're worht it they won't give it to you. but hey, you never know, maybe you'll be "directly involved" in the discussion and your job will have no choice but to offer you $15M.
does that sound ridiculous yet? houston had pretty much full control of what they offered Lin. they made the offer because they didn't want the knicks to match because they were desperate and had no other point guards.
I tell ask to match an offer and they say they will.
Then I get the other party to up the offer and I go back to get it (re)matched and my boss tells me to go fuk myself
I believe Lin was directly involve in the renegotiation of his contract with Houston, but I can’t fault the guy for doing what is right for him, considering that he did NOT get a contract from the Knicks and to topped all the Knicks were busy trying to trade for Steve Nash to replace Lin. So why should Lin turn down additional money from Houston?
Knicks publicly court Steve Nash
Knicks publicly say they will match any offer for Lin
The Knicks have c0cked this up.
But yes.. lets blame Lin for the Rockets (who need a PG) offering him a good contract.

Fans believe what the media says about Melo but, doubt it when its have been stated many times by that same media that Lin and his agent flew out to Vegas to renegotiate his contract. It must be nice to pick and choose like that.

and great, miraculous, stupendous contract that no one in their right mind would have offered him. No one is hating the money. The truth is, if he really wanted to come back to New York, and if he wanted us to be successful, now AND GOING FORWARD, he never would have renegotiated down to 3years from 4.
Three years from now, management is going to have to be real creative as it is to improve while owing mega millions for Amare, Tyson and Melo. You add that poison pill and we go from hand-cuffed to hell bound. His agent should have foreseen this. A Harvard grad should have foreseen this.
These are not the moves of a guy that truly wanted to come back. And if he does, then the humble bullshit was just that, bullshit because this reeks of arrogance of the highest order.

That's the one thing that is not even speculation and these Lin guy's will never accept.
Forget the money and who did what, why didn't Jeremy even call to the Knicks to say this is the deal. Not even to give the Knicks a chance to say, they would match or we have to let some trades/players go, ect.
If it wasn't a dick move, why do it in secrecy???
CrazyMadhops, please answer me this because you worked out all this pretty little stories and rules about FA's. Why not even a phone call before you sign a poison pill max contract deal??? It was going to be their after phone call no??? or was there a gun to his head.
You add that poison pill and we go from hand-cuffed to hell bound.

Fish, its not about the money. It's about how he went about in getting that money that people don't like. I bet if this was the original offer to begin with and there was no renegotiation there is minimal to no backlash and the offer would have already been matched.

People are mad at HOW Lin got the money? There is no HOW. Lin isnt in the drivers seat, the market is. As a FA you go get the best deal you can. There is nothing more to add.

If Woody and everyone else didnt dance around saying we will match we will match then it WOULD have been the last offer.
Has it occured to anyone that the Rockets actually want Lin? Has it occured to anyone that the Rockets, who traded their starting PG watched Lin galvanize his teammates? Hit clutch shots? Lin has intangibles.. the Rockets see that and want him to run their team.
If the 2nd offer is not palpable for Knick fans blame MSG, NOT Jeremy Lin

I'll agree the Knicks should have shut up. But I ask this. Many many many times have we seen teams of restricted free agents say we are matching any offer (didn't the Grizzlies do it just last year wth Gasol?) How many times have we seen verbal commitments renegotiated?

If your the Rockets, you just traded your starting PG and your high on Lin how do sign him? You offer him a big contract. If the Knicks says "no prob, we will match." do you giveup? No... you look at options to get your guy.
Kind of like when Melo forced us to trade all our players and picks for him, and give him more money than Lebron and Wade makes.
Its just business and people seem to love that guy ok. Whats the difference?

Marc Gasol couldn’t renegotiate his contract since he pretty much received the max offer for four years from Memphis, now Lin has every right to accept the increase offer from Houston as the Knicks have every right to decline it, if they choose to. Why would Lin turn down an additional 15 million?

Only reason you blindside your original team with a poison pill like this is if you don't care if they match.
Let's be real about it, I don't care and Lin doesn't either.
Either that or his whole negotiation tactics are completely backwards.
