Just taking a look at the starting 5....Amare, melo, Chandler, Felton, and brewer....these guys are not going to lose too many battles when it comes to over powering guys and taking and giving contact....
A.T. Roger Hinds has his hands full, keeping everyone healthy. If we can get through the entire without major injury, then yes, the starting 5 and bench will be as strong physically as well as playoff battle tested with the recent additions of Kidd, Thomas, and Camby.
Amare isn't a power guy. He goes up strong for the dunk but, beyond that his game doesn't rely on pure strength or actually overpower guys in the post.
I think we are far from it, whether Amare can be effective at PF vs playing Center would be the biggest question.
Who does Amare defend vs teams like OKC/Bulls when they have Lebron/Durant at the PF, with the shooters that those teams have?
I believe I'm talking strength here not ability to play perimeter defense and mismatch lineups....i think from a one on one perspective....against 30 teams, i think the knicks are physically stronger at every position.
Yeah, but don't forget we're old. Really old.
And fat, we're really really fat almost across the board.
I heard Tyson was eating donuts with Melo and Felton the other day.
Can't wait for the haters and Nyetsers in here to start talking about how slow of foot we are.
we are one of the deepest teams but strongest, I'm not willing to even go there. We've all been embarrassed by the "formidable" statements in the past. The only thing I will put out there is I don't see any chance of us not making the playoffs.
dunno bout strongest but it's looking like this team will be able to compete with any team on any night. Can't wait for the season to see how the chemistry develops....man, if we had a gazelle like Westbrook on this team i think I'd jizz my pants :)

To acquire a young "all star" of that caliber, we would most likely have to start with Tyson Chandler.
Depending on how confident we are with Camby, Tyson Chandler could be expendable.
If we don't have to give up Iman Shumpert in the deal, and not take back Perkins salary, I would love Harden or/and Westbrook.
If OKC comes out short again in the play offs, plays without ball movement, and I think they have to reconsider if they want to keep Ibaka/Harden at very high salaries or move them for other pieces.
I am very surprised they did not target Kidd this off season, he would be perfect in OKC, with his ability to set up the team.
With 2 Guards that can penetrate with Westbrook/Harden and the athleticism with the rest of the roster, Kidd's age deficiencies would be hidden well.
His leadership, ability to set up team mates, and mentor all the young athletic skilled players on the roster would be priceless.
If he didn't come to NY as an early retirement, continues to work hard, and stays in fair shape for his age, both would be players that would fit right in OKC's youth.
OKC's weakest position is the Center spot that could use a huge upgrade to anchor the DEFENSE and athleticism on the roster.
we have have been a relative talented team the last couple years, we can't stay healthy and no matter how deep we are, its point less..

Amare would be a perfect fit for them at the C...to bad neither team would make that move, but i guy can dream can't he

EnySpree wrote:Just taking a look at the starting 5....Amare, melo, Chandler, Felton, and brewer....these guys are not going to lose too many battles when it comes to over powering guys and taking and giving contact...That's a powerful team. High Power Defense. Hard to Stop. Lethal. Unstoppable. Undeniable. I'll have to look up some of Walt`Clyde Frazier's rhymes lol.
Oh here are a few of them. Prolific Scorer, Reveting Defense, Tenacious Defense, Feline Quickness, Methador Defense, Shrewd, Clever, Slick, Teflon Defense....
Can't wait. The Knicks are going to be hard to beat if they can stay healthy.
There's another player name Copeland who signed a non guaranteed contract and I've watched some videos of him prior to him playing in the summer league. Based on the videos he's a poor man's Carmelo Anthony.
Oh and wait... Felton can't wait to shut some people up and I can't wait either. Amare will be shelling out $100,000 for two weeks of work with Hakeem Olajuwan. Reports indicate that Lebron, DHoward and Kobe saw immediate results after spending time with him to the Shake.
Hopefully this team will be reminiscent of 1990's Knicks and it probably will be.
We will win arm and thumb wrestling contests. Awesome!

Based on your post here you are one of the HATERS and NYETSERS.

First time I thought about this as our starting five...
Yeah, this group is physically strong to some degree (You seem to be counting Anthony and Amare as "strong," but both are inconsistent as post defenders.), but this is, arguably, one of the worst outside shooting teams in the league, by the way. We don't have guys willing and able to hang out on the outside and consistently make shots.
Am I the only one who gets the feeling that if this is our starting lineup for much of the season it is one of the most unbalanced starting squads in the league?
All you guys who screamed at Fields, are now getting a terrible offensive player in Brewer. His man will be dropping off him to harass Anthony or Amare on a regular basis.
Chandler has yet to prove he can do anything on offense but be part of a pick and roll. Felton has a reputation as being an ineffective shooter, and his pick and role ability will be compromised by the fact that teams will be packing it in on D and clogging up the middle.
This is a squad that is going to have a lot of trouble scoring against good defenses, so we had better step it up when we are on the defensive end.
And yeah, I realize that I am a nattering nabob of negativism.

I still think we need to move Novak into the starting lineup for Amare. He's one of the only guys who can shoot from long range and it would go a long way towards balancing the lineup.

I concur...
I believe that move would make it easier for everyone. Having 4 shooters to spread the floor, unclogs the lane for Felton to penetrate, Tyson Chandler to score on his man without help, everyone else to cut in for layups, PnR would allow much more options, and Melo to post up. Maybe Copeland starting if he shows hit the 3pointer, rebound, and defend in the NBA level.
Amare also gets the pass first PGs with shooters to space him out in the 2nd unit, most importantly allows Amare to play the alpha role again.
I think Camby fits with Amare better than Tyson Chandler.

The opponent's PF has to either try to keep up with Melo or stay on the 3 pt line guarding Novak

If the PF is guarding Melo, it would allow Melo to actually penetrate off the dribble as a mismatch.
