Knicks · Hey Let's Discuss Jeremy Lin's not being up to his game in Houston. He claims lingering injury?? (page 8)
Regarding Lin, what can you say? Terrible game statistically. What I don't get though is that they are talking about him not being a good athlete. His combine numbers were insane, weren't they? That first step everyone talked about when he was healthy is no there and it sure wasn't an aberration! He is recovering from a minor surgery, key being minor and the other key being "Why is it taking so long?". I think Lin trained like a mad man to get to where he was last year. The injury really really set him back. I think the difference is that this is all new for his body and a set-back in his first season is a bit more than a player who has had the speed of a top notch NBA guard for many years. Lin appeared out of nowhere last year because he took on some new training methods and raised his bar. So, he isn't just getting back in shape, he is trying to get back into the best shape of his life, again.

PP does look better than I thought on the floor. Maybe someone else will have mop up duty.

Even though Miami didn't resign him, or even play him, I thought it was stupid to let a potential missing piece in center go.Regarding Lin, what can you say? Terrible game statistically. The bit questioning his athleticism came from one article (by the terrible Mitch lawrence), quoting a source that had 'many years of experience around basketball'- ie probably himself or Isola. Lin's athleticism is fine, I remember people constantly saying he was 'deceptively athletic' while he was with us. Watching that video, my main worries remain over how long he lasts- again he was taking some hard falls and it's only the preseason. It's strange to hear his work ethic being questioned as I always assumed he had a good one. Maybe he got complacent once he got to Houston.
Still, it's only one preseason game and I'm curious to see how Lin turns out- was he just on a hot streak with us or is he really that good? We'll find out soon enough.
As for Curry- its only taken him TEN YEARS to turn up to training camp in shape! Curry got many, many chances with us, the only reason he's in shape now is because he's bankrupt and facing starvation-that'll motivate even the laziest of people.

Lin looks absolutely lost in that clip. And alot of the plays don't have to do with anything related to the knee.

Totally true man, when the real games begin we will find out what the real Lin is made of, just like what this Knicks team is all about, there is no need to overanalyzed preseason games.
Let the real games do the talking.

Funny, wonder why no one's breaking down and analyzing these clips frame by frame...hmmmmmmmmm
So he looks mediocre against low talent and looks like a D-league reject against aging vets. Yes, I can absolutely see how Duncan Manu and TP affected Lin's open jump shots.
And I can especially apreciate how TP drove walked strolled past him for a lay up. That happens to everybody.
Poor Houston talent or no, it looks like it's going to be a long season for Lin.
I guess we will see.
And this in no way is to be construed as making our owner out to be anything more than a grubbing idiot.
I still think Lin would have been good on the Knicks. Probably much better than he is going to pan out in Houston.
jrodmc makes a valid point. Linsanity can only happen once - in a media capital like New York, on Broadway... with courtside seats packed with celebrities. Jeremy Lin was a pleasant surprise. A jolt of electricity in the right place at the right time. That can only happen once. NBA guards take individual matchups personally.
After all the fanfare, how long does it take for Houston to become disenchanted with its basketball team?
Around the time the third year of his contract kicks in, the Texas-sized expectation will be for a serious playoffs run.
If Jeremy Lin becomes the scapegoat for anything less it will not be pretty.

In all seriousness, I think Lin will play fine in the regular season. May even win Houston a few games here and there. What I noticed during Lin's 3 preseason games so far is some regression though. I don't know if the knee is causing rust or lack of confidence, but he's making some terrible decisions with the ball. I'm not talking about missing layups or jumpers, that will come in time, but the bad passes he's displayed and turnovers have been horrendous.

It looks like Lin lost some burst finishing at the rim. I don't think it's something a floater wouldn't fix. San Antonio's interior defense is too solid to try and penetrate against every time down the floor. He should look at some clips of Nash, Parker and Mark Jackson to figure out some sort of runner of tear drop shot. That said, I'm very happy with Felton so far and I wish Lin the best. I do think Houston and Dallas fans are annoying and I would be lying if I said I didn't find some glee in seeing the Cowboys suck for another season and watching Morey show, once again, why he is one the most overrated GMs in the league. I think the reason he hired McHale in the first place is so he can have another built in excuse for why his teams have amounted to crap over the years.

The success of Lin had little to do with D'Anotini's "system". Lin simply caught the league guards off guard.

So true. Once I saw Lin against the Nets and Dallas the 2nd go around, he couldn't duplicate his "Linsanity" output. Definitely raised some flags to what he really is.
If you're to make an analogy to a recent player in major sports, "Matt Cassel" anyone? System QB in New England, put up great numbers for Bill Bellichek, once Tom Brady went down in '08. Bill definitely wanted him back, with the uncertainty to Brady's knee injury. Instead Cassel got franchised and traded to the Chiefs. Got his big payday($28 mill guaranteed), had some nice games here and there, but ultimately never reached his peak in New England.
Sounds eerily familiar right? I mean the Knicks definitely wanted him back, but not at the cost, and not as the focal point, as he was during "Linsanity". Lin was also a "System QB" in MDA's offense, so there was alot of inflation of numbers. Lin got his payday and is now happy on a horrible team. Lin will never reach the peaks he had in February, unless MDA unretires, and replaces McHale. Lin is the Matt Cassel of bball fellas.

This is your opinion and I truly respect it, however, I must say that you are reaching a conclusion WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY to prematurely, the season hasn’t even started and Lin hasn’t even run his team for half a season yet. Give the guy sometime honestly.
The New York Knicks, who will line up Raymond Felton and Jason Kidd at point guard this season, lost Jeremy Lin to the Houston Rockets in free agency. Until the point at which it became apparent that the Knicks would not spend to retain Lin, pretty much everyone in New York loved the kid. Then, when his future became less certain, the anonymice came out. And they started ripping Lin.And now that Felton has looked good in early preseason action (despite eight NBA seasons in which he has usually looked mediocre to average) and now that Lin has struggled in the preseason, those anonymice have some extra oomph in their strident criticisms.
From Mitch Lawrence of the New York Daily News:
"More than a problem with his knee, what I saw again from Lin is that he is limited as an athlete," was how one person with years of NBA experience put it after seeing Lin's debut. "Offensively, he should be fine. But when he has to guard opposing point guards, especially guys with speed like Russell Westbrook, he is going to really struggle."
Sounds like more tough times ahead for Jeremy Lin.
There is a role for anonymous sources in journalism ... even in sports journalism. (How else would we get contract figures without team rules getting openly broken?) But this is not the role. Ripping a player's ability after a preseason game but not having the guts to put your name on it is just gross. And it's only going to intensify as the season goes on.
This is cowardly stuff from Lawrence and his source. Pure cowardice.

I just find it weird that the guy has reacted so strongly- the Lin criticism isn't sourced from the Knicks (it's probably fellow NY Daily news writer Isola who seems to have some strange hatred of Lin), and there hasn't really been any anti-Lin stuff written in the NY press. And guys annonimously talk about other basketball players all the time- why is this incident considered so beyond the pale?
He also went onto twitter to argue that Lin is clearly better than Felton, since Felton has had 8 years to prove himself, so Lin must therefore somehow be better than him (?), and that 3 coaches thought he sucked, George Karl (had him for 1 or 2 months), Larry Brown (not true he liked him, or at least as much as he tends to like his own PGs), and McMillan (coached him for 2 months while he was out of shape.).

Curry I believe has played every game for them thus far and has contributed nicely. He's shooting like 70%fg 21-30fg. Two teams with high standards Heat and Spurs managed to take a chance on him, he remains in shape for both teams and although the Heat didn't retain him.... probably due to style of play the Spurs take a chance on him and incorporate him into what they do. Now he's logging as many minutes as any other role player in Pre-Season. Meanwhile we couldn't get through to him as a player or person. He's playing about 17min/gm

ESPN doesn't even have a pic for his player profile that's how much of a forgotten memory he is. I don't like Curry at all but I do find this disturbing to an extent. It's like I wonder what our support system is like within the organization. I do believe efforts were made to reach Curry but what it done with the right execution/approach. Oh well he's no longer here but appears he will be a part of the Spurs roster who would of thunk.
Walsh did try to give him a shot but, he kept coming up with small nagging injuries. Hamstring one month, strained calf another. There was a plethora of following injures that kept him on the shelf.
I watched the San Antonio game and was like, wtf, that's Eddy Curry from his 2nd season in NY. Dude was looking light on his feet and even "tried" on defense.
Playing for Pop, dude is going to be in shape and play the right way or Pop will tear him a brand new bunghole. Also, he has to realize that this might be his last chance at reviving his career. No one every doubted Eddy's ability, we just doubted his commitment.

This must speak volumes to the crack medical staff we have. He kept getting hurt here, yet he manages to keep a good bill of health and shape for 2 teams over a season and a half? You make mention of the effort well he was coming to the end of his contract with us he wasn't HUNGRY enough to try?
I think it doesn't help when you consider our media too. We always have to publicize every little detail about what these players are doing or aren't doing. I do recall when he was getting in shape his agent took it personal in the media we tried to get Curry under 300lbs. He specifically said it's not going to happen.

The only person to blame for eddy currys performance here is eddy curry. The reason he hasn't been injured the last season (this season has only just started so you can't include it in his health record!) is because he didn't play and wasn't as over weight as he was with us.
I know you love to see the negative in everything about this team, but you're really reaching if you think Eddy Curry was some sort of victim with us!
