I very often see Melo face guard box his man allowing another knick to get the rebound. That is smart basketball and I can't stand when players try to out rebound a bigger man. Its dumb. He is playing it correctly and it is not showing up in the stats.
Just another example where you need a combo of advanced stats and advanced scouting.
If your team gets the rebound, it still helps you although not as much as if you got the rebound. That's because of the team adjustment. You basically get a small credit or penalty for the team you play on - this is an imperfect attempt to incorporate contributions not included in box scores.
I've always said, though, the best models will combine informed intuition and the advanced stats although in most areas of life you get the best outcomes when you give more than 50% weight to the stats.
It's hard to find validation data on it but it might be worth giving some weight to win scores - or at least examining them.

Varejao and Harden are the only ones of those players that surprise me.

Any statistic that has Anderson Varejao at the tops of any statistic, especially one to do with wins, is flawed beyond all belief when said team only has won 6 out of 29 games.

I posted it just for the fun of it. I still advocate taking the WP-WS average.
