Knicks · Premature Fire Woodson Thread (page 1)

matt @ 2/13/2013 11:23 PM
Title says it all. Maybe he just needs a mini vacation, but after our recent crap streak, I ask myself "What has Woodson done for the Knicks lately?"

- Novak was finally shooting well this game - doesn't play second half basically

- JR Smith - the man crush needs to end. Unless he's on fire, he really shouldn't be playing more than 30 minutes a night. He just keeps shooting and shooting and shooting

- Kidd - He has to stop playing him so many minutes or he physically won't be able to play come playoff time. You got James White and Brewer collecting dust; they could at least spot a couple of minutes to reduce Kidd's load

- What was with the Pablo, Kidd, Felton, Iman, Carmelo lineup????

Knicks always come out flat these days. Anything resembling the team from November has been buried. I am disappoint.

yellowboy90 @ 2/13/2013 11:26 PM
Wow, when threads go wrong.
gunsnewing @ 2/13/2013 11:30 PM
JR actually was the only one who showed up tonight with 26pts 8/17 47%

Knicks were mentally checked out already for the extended weekend.

How many blown layups, right at the rim, did Chandler, Melo, Felton, Amare and Smith have?

Toronto has young legs and didn't just roll over. I dont understand all the doom and gloom it was one game.

folks seem to be worried off the past 25 games. 19-6 in the first 25 vs 13-12 in the past 25. the stretch run is coming, and what will they be like.

30+ wins used to be a year long struggle to reach, and thats been the case for 10+ years. nice to be where they are and its hard to see that, so it seems.

Agree. Also, despite recent struggles Woodson is the fastest coach to 50 wins in franchise history.

yellowboy90 @ 2/14/2013 6:37 AM
I know people talk about the starting lineup but the second unit is getting destroyed. This keeps the minutes up for the starters. The Knicks need a big to go with Amar'e. Also Kidd should not be with the second unit if Shump is in.

Look at his early records. He was probably the fastest coach to 50 losses in Atlanta.

He's also the first coach in Hawks history to get swept out of the EC semis two years running.

I say let's avoid the rush and get rid of him right now.

I agree. Lets fire his azz

I am bored and can use some excitement.

Time for "Oak for coach" chants!

Ewing was at the game last right?

Wait, what if, naw....!

yeah that about sums it up for me too. getting annihilated in the playoffs was a huge red flag for me. he may have gone too far ingratiating himself with carmelo. the situation is starting to congeal into dinglebury part 5.

i pray the entire team heals and the coach and his players agree to rededicate themselves to playing the right way which means a massive amount of energy playing defense.

Who would you trade Fish?

nobody. I dont really see a trade the helps us that much.

It just comes down to what do the Knicks have to give up? Jeremy Lin might have been a nice piece to dangle. Who are we offering? Shump? The only young talented player we have? OK.. are we getting another role player thats going to help us compete for a title this year? I dont see that. Dont see how Jared Dudley gets us there.

We arent trading Melo.

Amare is untradable.

Chandler would have value, but how do you have a roster with Amare/Melo and NOT have Chandler? With those two you need a defensive center who rebounds and doesnt need the ball (shots) to be happy. So our "big 3" stays.

Kurt, Camby, Kidd, Prigo, Copeland, Brewer and White are worth nothing to anybody. They are cap matching filler and nothing more.

There are teams that could use Novak for sure. I would put his value at a low 25-30 first rounder and expiring contract.

Felton would also have some value. Good player and nice contract, but teams will also be wary of adding him after what happened last time he was traded, which was pout and eat.

That leaves us with the only piece other teams would want... Shump.

No trades for me because of the above. Ride it out and give these guys a chance. Would probably do the same with next year also.

Then after the next two years of playoff failure Im moving Melo, Chandler, Amare (all expiring) for picks and young players and rebuilding. Certainly Melo and Chandler should have value at that time and Amare's expiring deal might fetch something desirable.

If they win or get to the conf finals then they earned their pennies and you use Dolan's money to add pieces.

That would be my take. No trades now

I'm curious how you would rank how much you think each of these three players would help us win a title this year:
Vince Carter (I credit Briggs for mentioning him)
Luke Ridnour
Iman Shumpert

I'm sure there are other backcourt veterans who are better than Shumpert right now an we could get for him. We could probably also get 1 or 2 2nd rd picks in that kind of trade - maybe a late 1st rounder but that's probably pushing it. BTW, I'd put the three players in the order above.

dk7th @ 2/15/2013 4:39 PM
no trade is going to get us closer to the goal of ECF. this is the price you pay for going into win-now mode.

it's about whether the coach can get the carmelo anthony and company to give more energy on defense than they have. the first 9 games were revelatory and the benchmark. since that time there has been a TON of backsliding and the stench of complacency... with predictable results.

the half-court offense is going to remain amorphous with this group unless melo somehow becomes a complete player over the break, but with good defense you can at least generate turnovers and easy points.

i said before the season that the knicks could win anywhere from 48-55 games this season. no defense they could get to 48 but with defense they could win about 55. right now they are on course for about 50 wins.

Imagine winning only one game against the world champs with Toney Douglas and Mike Bibby as your point guards, an ill Chandler, and a busted up Amare. Where is Mike Bibby playing now?
