Yea once Dolan forced Donnie's hand in getting Melo at all costs it signaled the end of the Dantoni era.
Should Dantoni have adjusted his philosophy to suit Melo or should Melo have bought into SSOL? Neither did anything about it so Dantoni is gone. They will always get rid of the coach before the player. If either scenario happened we'd be a better team today because offensively Dantoni is light years ahead of Woodson.
Dantoni might've won with this roster since they are savy vets who know how to defend. We wouldn't see predictable iso ball.
Right now Woodson is a mess offensively and his strength "Defense" is 15th in the league. His lineups and rotations have no rhythm or reason. We lack an identity. Too many low IQ players mixed with veterans who should not be allowed to free lance. The head honcho "JR Smith" happens to be a favorite of the coach. On second thought we do have an identity, low IQ basketball is our identity
Not a good combination
I want Brian Shaw. Woodson is a defensive-oriented coach who can't motivate the team to play defense on a consistent basis and an iso-heavy offensive coach. I've heard nothing but good things about Shaw, let's give him a shot.

Thats the kind of young coaching mind I'm referring to. Someone who is hungry. Not another dinosaur in terms of age and philosophy. Brian Shaw paid his dues under Phil Jackson. Shaw would be a perfect hire. Tell me where to sign

James Dolan only hires yes men.
I was saying last year that this whole myth that Woody is some defensive genius was overblown. For one thing he has the exact same defensive scheme as MDA did. Same switching D, with a tweak here or there, but really it's not some work of genius. This year is proving my point from last year. The reason the team was balling out on D was merely the fact that Melo decided to go hard on D and that helped to set an example that the rest of the team followed. However, that high effort level from Melo has not been sustained and Woody has no tricks to come up with to make the Knicks a top defensive team for an entire 82 game season. A short run is one thing, but to sustain that for a season is a different story.
On the offensive end he's not even on the same planet as MDA. MDA made the WCF's twice!!! In the end Woody still has a chance to prove himself. If he gets to the same point MDA has already gotten to twice, then no one can say anything. If he gets to the ECF's then he's done his job well. I just don't think Woody is a great coach. He's OK. Too many people have taken a small sampling and made too much of it. With all of that said, I don't believe we need to change the coach tho. We need just a few better players. If we had at least one more guard that could penetrate at will, that would really help this team. We lack speed and athletic ability. We need just a few more easy baskets a game and a few more stops.
That was Woodson's switching scheme last year not Dantoni. Woodson was not just brought here to be Dantoni's assistant. He was brought here to be the defensive coordinator and has been very mediocre with his system. As evident by the Knicks being ranked 15th in defense for over 3months now.
Call me negative all you want. I've watched every game this year. This trend of coming out flat, lack of effort, poor defense, too much iso, too many bricked 3's has been goin on since Dec. 17th. Knicks never recovered after getting blown off their home court by the Rockets a 2nd time
Woody is 55-28 since taking over...The Knicks have FAR exceeded anyone's expectation on this board from the start of the season...The Knicks have a better record than the other teams whose coaches posters here are drooling for...Did someone mention Mike D,Antonio..The clown of a coach that quit after a losing effort..CLOWN!!!..If Woody was so horrible and took the same freaking team to an 18-6 finish..What does that tell u about the Clown in LA..CLOWN...All he needs is big red boots and a big red nose...

If you remember back before Woody the Knicks already had the same kind of switching defense. We all used to scream about it. It was clearly stated before last season by MDA that Woody would be coaching MDA's defensive system and really it didn't matter since Woody employed the same kind of system. Remember we all thought it would be different with Woody but in the end they still switched almost everything.
MDA's defensive scheme was about not fouling which he hated because it would lead to slowing down the game and the other team getting High % shots, which FT's are shot above 70% by most teams. He never had a strong defensive Center and thus he always employed a switching defense from his days in PHX. What he never had was a Tyson to hold down the middle. Right now Woody isn't getting any better results defensively than MDA used to get in PHX without a Center. That's not good.

You can place all your hopes on a strong start to the regular season but in the end Woody will be judged by whether he gets to the ECF's or not. You can say all the trash you want about MDA but in the end he's gotten further than Woody has so far in his coaching career. Until he gets this team to the ECF's he hasn't done jack squat IMO.

Right and the clown in LA will be a hero if he just makes the playoffs with 4 future HOF on the roster..Clown!!!
holfresh is a sad human being. Trying to prop up mediocre Woodson as some excellent coach because he was screaming and yelling about how awful D'Antoni was and how much better Woodson was when in the end Woodson has turned into another D'Antoni. Now he's just trying to save face with some BS about a mediocre coach.
And you talk about clowns.
Keep supporting Dolan, Isiah, Marbury and now Woodson. You sure choose them well.
This team was constructed by Grunwald and Isiah and Dolemite, it's ready to compete in the playoffs.
They happen to ask Woodson to coach the team. Woodson , there's a method to his madness he has a lot of players to evaluate before he finds out who's gonna be the most valuable and reliable before the 2nd season comes around.
This roster( as mature as it is in age) is assembled and fashioned to play playoff basketball.
I will hold my Mike Woodson judgement for the playoffs. This reg season test is for younger teams, our roster has years of playoff experience where nerves and intensity are tested.
Some of you act like little women with hot flashes , you can't handle it.

Unfortunately for u, sports are a results oriented biz...Woodson is producing wins period...What is there to complain about??..He is mediocre because u say so??..And if he is mediocre, so what?? As long as the team is winning...I'll take a terrible coach producing victories than the great MDA, the offensive genius who can't get to .500 or the playoffs any day...I'll rather be in the Knicks position than the Fakers...
P.S...How do u scream and yell on a keyboard??
JamesKPolk wrote:CrushAlot wrote:Absolutely. Knicks were coached by an offensive genius for 4 years. It didn't work. Second place in the east equals job insecurity?
LOL @ this hypocrite.
Such a typical response I saw coming miles away.
Woodson is basically Mike D'Antoni offensively, probably worse offensively, and his defensive coaching is mediocre at best. But of course with a better roster he has nice record (which wont mean anything when he loses us games in the playoffs) and he's automatically a good coach.
You need to support Woodson because you were practically falling over yourself trying to prop him up as some amazing coach so now you'll defend him to the death. Good for you...but nobody's buying it.
Stop baiting. You did it in a thread yesterday as well. Knicks have taken a dramatic turn since Woodson replaced dantoni. I get that you are a big fan of Walsh and I think he made a lot of mistakes. I don't remember you being a dantoni supporter.
I will wait until the playoffs to decide how I feel

His coaching has been getting worse Anubis. Granted, when guys aren't hitting shots that's the teams fault. However: if the entire team just comes out flat or if we are isolating Carmello most of the game, this is Woodson. He's an OK coach at best.

Did anyone actually believe the Knicks would be this good coming into the season? 2nd place in the East and Woodson deserves no credit?
Woodson might not be Phil Jackson but he gets the job done. He works with what he is given.
Woodson has JR Smith playing well too.
Woodson has to work with Felton, Smith, Kidd, and Shumpert as his guard rotation. The man is a miracle worker if you ask me.
I guess the Knicks should hire the Wizard of Oz to give Felton and Smith a brain and Amare some new knees.
I give Woodson credit credit for his positives. Im allowed to criticize him too and the isoball is something he should be criticized for.
