Knicks · How does this get better next year? (page 1)

We all knew coming into this year that we were a win now team. This year and myabe next year was our time to get this done right. Now the Knicks look like they might be hedaed for trouble. Amare is most likely done for the season. Kidd Novak and Camby have all been disappointing and we are stuck with all for at least 2 more years. Our cap situation sucks. I mean i guess we have a 1st round pick but what are teh odds of getting a difference make in the middle to late first round

Improved chemistry, development of shumpert, smart draft choice and resourceful FA signings. That doesn't include possible trades. We are 1st in the Atlantic for the first time since who knows when. No need to freak out. We will be back and better.

It doesn't. The only room for improvement was given away this past Summer for Felton, Kidd, and Camby. We have 3 trade assets in Melo, Tyson, and Shumpert and two of them aren't going anywhere. The team we're watching is basically going to be the team we have for the next 2 seasons and there's virtually zero chance that Dolan will agree to a teardown/rebuild. Our only real hope is that we can get some real value in a trade for Amare's expiring contract in 2014/15.

We're playing out 62nd game tonight and most of the team already has previous experience playing with each other. Shumpert's a nice player but people talking about Gary Payton or Jordan-lite are kidding themselves; we should be expecting a Tony Allen/Avery Bradley type player. We can hope for smart drafts all we like but there are very few true difference makers in the 2nd half of the draft. Free agency? We're only going to have the $3M MLE to work with and after this past offseason I don't have much faith in Grunwald. I've already addressed trades in my other post. And sure, we're 1st in the division but we have the worst record of the 6 division leaders.

We can't get better next year. Already used a lot of money paying current players which some probably won't be playing next year like Amar'e. We have little to no cap space next year. We have 1st round pick next year but probably won't be lucky because it will be low and got no second round either. We'll have to rely on free agency.. oh wait, probably no money. Everything up to this point from a few years ago were aimed at this year blowing whole wad and didn't get anyone pregnant but injured hips. I think in 2017 is when we'll really have a good chance, probably at bottom of eastern conference 2016 and get really good 1st round picks. That's my guess.

The negativity is mind blowing. You asked a question and I gave you a level answer without any stretch of the imagination. Do we not have a draft pick this season? Do you not think shumpert ever improves? This is why people make fun of Knicks fans. If you think there's no hope and your best answer is what's above please leave and change teams. This team doesn't need your support.

And sorry I don't smoke. Good luck with your outlook. If its raining out you must never think we are going to see sun again smh.

How does it get better?

You talking perception or reality?

This season not over but the question is did we get much better than last year? Great start bad finish?

How far do we fall the next few weeks (if any)?
!
Lets see how we seed this year before we can measure how next can be better.

It don't feel good this morning and Likely not getting better this road trip but like Melo's knee, its a fluid situaton

Nope we can't get better. The spurs don't get better every year either despite a far older core than ours.

Easy with the draft pick in the 20s. Its not a lottery pick and you kniw damn well the knicks coukd draft a rondo like gem but he will never see the court over kidd

How do injured players develop chemistry from the bench?

The only way for this team to improve next year is that both Melo and Stat come back fully healthy and able to play a full 82 game season without nagging injuries.

I think that is probably a pretty dubious hope given that they couldn't do it this year, and they will be older next year.

Camby, Wallace and Kidd all a year older- and none of them could play roles for the full year this year- what on god's earth gives you hope that this isn't the same next year with them?

And Shumpert is the wild card. He could improve, but I don't see much hope there- a little, certainly more than Stat playing 82 games next year.

If he could develop a jumper, he'd really help out.

Also- I'm willing to give Novak a chance at helping next year. His bad shooting this year might be trying to live up to the big contract- I think we see players take a step back after signing that kind of deal, and the following year they start to relax and perform- not always, but...

Once this squad breaks down, Dolan has to wake up- he needs to be bitch slapped into realizing that teams that are good, do so by keeping draft picks, not trading them- and NY is ready for a proper rebuild, not the skank fest we've seen over the last 15 years.

Despite the early good start, I've watched fewer games this year than in years past. Dolan is slowly starting to alienate long time fanes - maybe just the educated ones- but he is slowly destroying his franchise.

I haven't quite gotten up to liking the Brooklyn Nets, but hey, it could happen...

Is this guy really comparing our situation with THE SPURS? WOW, WOW, WOW.

Spurs got better every year because:

Knicks player average: 31.8 years

Spurs player average: 27.8 years

Knicks player under 27: Imam Shumpert only

Spurs player under 27:
Aron Baynes
DeJuan Blair
Nando de Colo
Danny Green
Cory Joseph
Kawhi Leonard
Patty Mills

Not comparing our situation at all. Simply saying you can improve with minimal assets. Think before you respond.

Lin would have improved. Young players do that. Instead we gave the same money (Which we couldnt give to Lin, our starting PG) to Camby, Novak, Kidd and Prigo. Good job. But we are in first. Today.

You clearly don’t get it, the Spurs have a vision and system which the Knicks DON’T HAVE, for the past couple of years they have been drafting/trading for young players who are developing into serviceable good players now. Aside from Shumpert and a first rounder, the Knicks don’t have enough young talent to sustain the decline of half the roster and this is assuming both of those assets don’t get traded before next season. THINK BEFORE YOU POST.

Spurs "Big three" has a proven track record of chemistry. they hae serious "tenure".

They are dull but get it done.

Miami "Big three" superfriends are on season three. First year was a "fail" but they "failed" in the finals. With Lebron, a facilitater and perhaps one of the greatest players of all time in his prime you have a special circumstance.

Knicks have in melo of of this generations best high volumne scorers and finishers. A Great Defensive Center and former great PF who is injury prone and losing his greatest weapon. Our Big three falls short.

This year is better than last year. We got better. Might not end up as the satisfactory ending we could have hoped.

Two measure: Better regular season record and can we win more than one game in the playoffs? Can we win a series?

Thats how we get better this year. Still a lot of games to make someting happen, or fall flat on our face.

If we had both Amare and Carmelo at there 100% last night--we still wouldve been down by 30. That team would destroy us every-time.

That is why I said trade Carmelo for two lottery picks to the Bobcats--its not just getting rid of Melo HUGE cap # but you can start picking your own players that you can put together just like Denver did. Denver kicked our arse--they waited us out and got what they wanted. Im sorry to anyone who believes but the honest reality is we wouldve been better off staying the course with picks and improvement. That way you build a contender for ten years not some starphucked one and done idiotic calculation thats happened here.

I get where you are coming from, but again, staying on course and building a contender thru the draft works once every 10 years. You make it seem like it's easy. It's much more likely to add the best player you possibly can and build around them the best you can. It's a stars league and we had no stars.

Denver sure did it quick... so did Houston Ok City etc.. Portland is on course. You need a combo--cap space picks and trades. Were good at none of them--so youre probably right.

Whether you draft the next star with your lottery pick or trade for or sign one is fine. What is not okay is signing Amare to $100MIL CONTRACT UNINSURED and then trading half the team for a volume scorer. Which isnt bad but after signing Amare havingtwo maxed players does not allow you to build a proper team around Melo. Kidd rasheed camby prigs kmart are old. Shump is the only young piece and he is coming back from acl surgery.
