I don't care if he rebounds based on his nostrils. Rebounds are rebounds.
We're an average rebounding team. We grab 49.4% of available rebounds. The reason we're not better is that we play an SF at PF, an SG at SF, and a PG at SG.

I don't think that's true. We're the 4th best team in the league in terms of defensive rebounding % and I think we were 1st for a large portion of the season. The reason our overall rebounding numbers are poor is because we're a poor offensive rebounding team, ranked 20th in %, but I think that's probably by design. Woodson's gameplan seems to be, and I don't disagree with it, that it's more important to get back on transition defense then it is to crash the boards on the offensive end. Doc Rivers and the Celtics have been doing the same thing for years to great success. If you look at the numbers for this season there really isn't much correlation with offensive rebounds and team success; the best teams and the worst teams in the league at offensive rebounding are pretty much the best teams in the league.

Because Melo our starting 4 is a perimeter player not a conventional big. Now we have the opportunity to go big or small and we are going inbetween again where we lack an identity. Not big enough and not quick enough defensively and no spacicing offensively

Oh, I agree with that. I was referring specifically to our rebounding.

gunsnewing @ 4/3/2013 10:27 AM
Yea me too. Melo is a perimeter player. He is not going to rack up offensive rebounds. Nor his he capable of outrebounding bigger 4s on the defensive end. But Melobat the 4 works great vs orlando and detroit
GustavBahler @ 4/3/2013 11:01 AM
Tyson was doing a better job defending than we heard from the game thread. Tyson would alter a shot and someone like Miller would come in for the put back or rebound and Chandler would get blamed for the lapse. When Tyson forced Miami to shoot further out, the perimeter D was awful. Its what helped Miami keep it close in the first half. Second half NY got better on the boards, especially on offense and pulled away.

I'm not suggesting that Tyson is already back to 100 percent, I do believe that everyone is so happy about Kmart and the things he does that Tyson doesn't do, that some are trying too hard to paper over what Chandler brings to the table. Like being instrumental in holding that lead in the 4th. Room for both of them on this squad.

simrud @ 4/3/2013 11:10 AM
I found myself getting upset with Chandler last night (especially in the first half) also, but I think it is just overreacting to a combination of him being rusty (10 games is a lot of times to miss) and Martin playing really well.

I don't think it really makes all that much difference who is on the floor between him and Martin - neither one of them can shoot or has any post moves outside of a hook over smaller guys. Martin seems a tad better at finishing non-dunks, but again this maybe just because Chandler is rusty.

At the end of the day we have 2 guys that can anchor a defense (Chandler did that great in the beginning of the year so we know he can do that)and now there should not be a drop off in defensive intensity when either one of them sits. Plus having Camby should give us 3 defensive anchors who can play without being worried about foul trouble.

I expect Chandler to become more of a factor protecting the basket now that he can take fouls knowing K-Mart and Camby will come in and replace him as the defensive anchor.

gunsnewing @ 4/3/2013 11:17 AM
Martin can hit the midrange jumper and space the floor. Tyson doesnt attempt them. Nor do you want him to

How does Tyson rebound vs good teams with good frontcourts? 20 rebs vs the magic and pistons doesnt cut it

maybe tyson doesn't get a ton of rebounds against good frontcourts, but if he's boxing his guys out and allowing teammates to grab boards, then its all the same.

i think you're stretching here bro. tyson chandler is a top3 center in this league, melo playing the 4 is the problem. it should be melo/kmart/tyson in the front court. THATS the problem.

Good point. I hadn't noticed that. I guess playing perimeter guys who are out of position 2 to 4 affects the offensive rebounding more than the defensive rebounding.

Kenyon hits about 30% of his perimeter 2 pointers. From 10 to 15 feet, it's about 35%.

I agree. That was the point of this thread. Not to paper Tyson. So im not stupid after all!

So you do want Melo, K-Mart, and Tyson to be our starting front-court?
gunsnewing @ 4/3/2013 12:10 PM
Yes commit to an identity whether is big or small ball nit inbetween and slow ball. Tyson defending the pg ball. Clearly hant worked since december and 18-5
gunsnewing @ 4/3/2013 1:13 PM
I think tyson kmart melo works because kmart can stay out of the lane and not clog the lane for melo and the guards. But with that said I lean slighly towards kmart at center with tyson backing him up since tyson is a nonfactor offensively
gunsnewing @ 4/3/2013 1:19 PM
Basically anything but the 16-16 team we saw from dec 17 up to the utah game. The team with tyson and melo in the front court and the constant slow starts and lack of urgency
gunsnewing @ 4/3/2013 1:43 PM
An example of the point I am making...

I ask... Are you comfortable facing Noah/Boozer & Hibbert/West with Tyson/Melo?

Simple yes or no will do...

Keep in mind that knick team is 0-3 vs Chicago and what 2-2 vs Indy?

gunsnewing @ 4/3/2013 1:48 PM
Prob not but maybe after 32-0 i will

I like this thread. For obvious reasons.
gunsnewing @ 4/5/2013 8:23 PM
Nice to see the offense back flowing again with Tyson back in there
Bonn1997 @ 4/5/2013 9:40 PM
You feeling any better about Tyson starting yet?
