The problem with Woody is that he has failed to help his teams in the playoffs. All those that keep bringing up 18-6 (which could be a damn fluke with a usually HOT Melo in April) that is just not paying attention to his entire playoff history and making too much of regular season success. Some coaches are great with bad players and can't handle superstars. Some coaches are technicians and others are part Psychiatrist. Woody is a guy that is able to manage today's players in a good way during the regular season, but he's totally weak when it comes to coming up with X's n O's when the going gets tough in a playoff series. Woody is like a Deer in headlights in the playoffs when it comes to using his roster, prepping his team and doing battle with a good head coach. Woody can't go head to head with other playoff caliber coaches!!! If he's got a team with equal talent he loses to better coaches. He almost got beat by Doc with a lesser team and he didn't use his talent to the best of its ability against Vogel and the Pacers. If i'm wrong go ahead and breakdown his great moves in the playoffs that demonstrated his coaching skill. Just cuz the Knicks won a game doesn't mean Woody did a great job.

The problem as we've discussed over and over is not that we haven't had good coaches, but that we have never had THE coach and THE star player with support and THE GM with a plan and THE Owner that didn't get in the way, that all came together at the same time and are in sync. MDA wasn't supported from day 1 with a plan that was designed to guarantee a good fit. LB was an entire other issue, but still he and the front office weren't in sync. With Woody he was in perfect sync with his GM and they put together the team they both wanted. IMO Woody simply isn't that good. Woody left wins on the table with his awful coaching in the playoffs. I dare someone to refute the litany of mistakes Woody made.
Any good team is gonna win a good amount of games almost no matter who the coach is so regular season only proves so much about a coach. This is why they say a great coach can add 5-10 wins to a good team. Problem is that great coaches are hired not just for the regular season but for the Playoffs where they have the most influence. Woody has a bad track record in the playoffs. Case closed.
