Knicks · Bargnani's Coming Out Party (page 1)

What if Bargs has an Allstar season 20pts 8rebs 48% FG 38% 3pt

Nyets don't have a robin who is capable of putting up those kind of numbers

It is possible with motivation and offseason training

yellowboy90 @ 7/5/2013 6:34 AM
There have been players that flipped the switch with a change of scenery but I am not sure he is going to get those numbers but I could see his TS% and rebounds go up.
gunsnewing @ 7/5/2013 6:39 AM
I expect his percentages to go up playing with Melo especially 3pt% since plays are built into the offense to get open looks from lockouts. Same way Melo went from being a bad 3pt shooter in Denver to a good one in NY. The key as always will come down to the PG position

Bargs will stretch the floor for both Melo and Amare to operate

I see him being heavily involve in the double high Pnr. Over the last 4 yrs he has shot 36% or higher off the PnR. He also is a good cutter like Amar'e is. It is interesting where the players shoot well from 3. Shump shoot over 43% from the corners, Melo shoots around.near 40% from both high wing areas, and Bargs is good from the top of the arch. There is potential for great spacing if things click.

gunsnewing @ 7/5/2013 7:46 AM
Yea that's what I'm getting at. The system inflates their 3pt% Shumpert is not a great 3pt shooter yet but since halfway through his rookie season he has shot 43%. Then there is Shawne Williams, copeland etc. A guy like Bargnani who is actually 7ft tall and an actual 3pt shooter should be lights out. He doesn't even need to be set up like Novak. At 7ft he can just stand there and shoot over anyone especially since most of the time he will be shooting over a wing. Other times teams will send out a big that would rather stay inside or it will force teams to abort their gameplay and rotate.

This thing really has potential if only the Knicks would upgrade at pg to steer the ship. Maybe we can execute a 3 team deal where Tyson goes for rondo and we don't give up Shumpert. I suggested this months ago. It is the only way to legitmately improve and become contenders

knickscity @ 7/5/2013 8:00 AM
I dont expect him to have a season better than anything he has done so far.

16 points on 45% shooting and 35% from three is a more likely expectation.

I like the perspective you put on this. I was pretty down on the Bargs trade, but if you look at it like they combined Novakaine and Cambyman into one serviceable two-way player, it makes a bit more sense. While I wish the front office would put better value on their draft picks, they've shown that they are capable of finding late draft talent without draft picks themselves.

With respect to Rondo, I'd like to see what he does in Boston without KG and PP whispering in his ear. I think he is as likely to self-destruct as continue the high level of play...

I think they will be ok with Felton also, I am not sure Rondo is the right guy. I would go after a lesser pg like Teague but they don't have any assets to do any trade now. Also, I think Tyson if he is back to semi-normal he might be perfect for Bargs. Bargs is the one on one post defender the teams needs and Tyson is the help defender the team needs. I wish Tyson was a better rim protector but it is what it is. There was a article that said Bargs defended the better post player 8 out of 10 times when Bosh was in Toronto and all his synergy stats that records isolation and post defense suggest he has been a good defender in those areas and I wonder if Bargs will take the better post player here.

He never played with guy like Melo who scores from anywhere on the floor. He played with Bosh when he was a young player. You don't put up big numbers playing alongside a veteran big who averages 20 & 10. and unless you are a volume scorer you don't put up big numbers when surrounded by Dleague talent

Yea I'm not as down on Tyson now that we have Bargnani and a healthy Amare. He can just focus on defense and rebounding. Playing both Tyson and Kmart killed us in the playoffs because neither could get us easy baskets. Which ultimately led to Melo one on 5

But I would still trade Tyson for Rondo and hope that one of the young bigs step up like Mozgov did. You can get by with a young athletic 7ft center

gunsnewing @ 7/5/2013 8:17 AM
My biggest gripe last yr was not having a legitimate second option who can score inside and get easier baskets not a clankfest on the perimeter. I did not like starting games in a 15pt hole as we watched Melo go one on 5. It is why I was hoping Amare would start alongside of him at 25mins a game. Now with Bargnani here and JR in the right role we can use Amares offense for 20-25mins off the bench

Yeah, if healthy I see Amar'e coming in at the 4-3 min mark of the 1st and continue playing until the 7-6 min mark of the second. Then do the same in the second half. I think woody has to tell them to be aggressive as you want to be but be smart. If his limit restriction is 20-25 minutes than he really doesn't have to worry about fouling out.

For starters, forget the 8 boards.

djsunyc @ 7/5/2013 8:34 AM
the only guy that should have a coming out party is fishmike.

this is going to be a very telling season for woodson. can he actually create an offensive set where jr smith + melo + bargs can get their attempts. (not to mention amare)

if there is no structure, bargs will step back and become one of the guys.

IronWillGiroud @ 7/5/2013 8:37 AM
i think the guy has it in him,

and i think he will be a solid contributor for us and he will improve our team,

and finally, i don't see him busting out here, because i read the other day that he "likes what comes with the game more than the game itself", so he is like another JR SWAG,

i can see bargs doing lines off coke during the regular season, just not the post season

gunsnewing @ 7/5/2013 8:39 AM
Well someone has to rebound. Melo is a perimeter player and Tyson is not that great. If motivated and pushed Bargnani can give you 7-8rebs which would be more than what we got from Melo playing out of position and endearing multiple injuries. You have to figure Woodson is going to push Bargnani to work on defensive fundamentals in the offseason and strength his core

Agree 100% does Woodson make it work or does Bargnani take residence in Novaks doghouse because the offense is unimaginative?

StarksEwing1 @ 7/5/2013 9:46 AM
Hey i hope to god Bargnani finally lives to up to expectations i honestly do. However he needs to prove it first

As much as we tout the players, Woodson is the one who needs to step up. He's got to get better results from Bargs, Amar'e, JR and Tyson. Whether it's rebounding, shot selection or effort. Woodie needs to lay down the law as early as training camp so these deficeincies don't become stumbling blocks.

GustavBahler @ 7/5/2013 9:51 AM
Not expecting miracles, but I hope that maybe Tyson will work with him on improving his rebounding skills, putting himself in a better position to grab a rebound.

Wouldn't hurt to go with Stat to Houston and train with Hakeem as well. If Bargs can grab a couple more boards a game, not impossible, that would be a big plus. Maybe the Knicks will put more emphasis on that aspect of his game than the Raps did.

nixluva @ 7/5/2013 10:30 AM
The way this team has played, there are definitely shots to go around. We had several players who actually turn down shots on this team. Prigs, Kidd, Tyson and even Shump. That is part of the problem that having AB helps to solve. If I was his coach i'd get him a TON of post ups under the basket. I'd tell him to run the floor and plant himself right in the middle of the paint. He's not a guy who lacks for offense skills so get him close to the basket and see what he can do. He'll always be able to take long jumpers. Those shots from 15' in are the ones that will really help AB to be more efficient and get to the line.
