The Problem for everyone else right now is the best Team and best player on Earth isnt chasing money. In Houston u got a emerging superstar who took less money in Harden and Howard who didnt rip up his new to team to join him.
The difference with Howard was Kupchak was the gm. Ujiri knew he needed to get Melo something and also you can't discount that a lockout was looming where the owners were telling the players that they were reigning in free agency. Walsh wanted Melo. Knicks were rumored to be chasing him all of that year. Walsh also wanted two stars. Ujiri was moving Melo at the deadline for fair market value. If he didn't get traded to the Knicks he would have gone somewhere else at the deadline. Ujiri wasn't going to wait for Melo to leave for nothing and Melo wanted a deal before the lockout. The thought that Melo takes less and the Nuggets get nothing for him isn't based in reality. It would have been nice for the Knicks though.

I doubt it... I doubt he even cares enough..
I am not a big anti-melo guy, but we will see what he is made of with this whole negotiation/resigning and how it plays out. If takes the approx $25mil per year max deal with no cap room left to bring in help, it really says all of his comments about winning but the most important thing to him will ring hollow. If he takes a team friendly contract leaving room for the Knicks to bring help in around him, he can shed some of the "selfish" label that he has been wearing.
Should be an interesting year or so. More interesting than watch Bargnani's guy blow past him on D all year!
