Sorry but when I see this type of rant about an athlete generally a red flag goes up. To have this deep of a hatred towards another who you do not know personally, has not materially harmed you nor performed criminal actions really speaks to a serious issue. You appear to be obsessed with Carmelo in a negative way - as if he has deeply wounded you in some way. Athletes are essentially entertainers....if you do not like the show....you are free to change the channel instead of continuing to watch only to obsess on how bad the acting is.so long as you regard sport as primarily entertainment and athletes primarily as entertainers you won't have any standards for excellence and you will never deserve to root for a title-winning team. that pathetic piece of shyt dolan just loves folks like you.
What do you regard sports as if not entertainment?
1) ubuntu, a concept that has existed as long as human beings have worked collectively to succeed as a group.
2) a non-lethal representation of war, which has also existed so long as human beings have become collectives whose primary aim is survival.
the essence of entertainment is distraction. that the world of sport has degenerated to serve the lowest impulses in people-- from athletes to owners to agents to fans-- does not mean that it's essence does not persist in the weltgeist or collective unconscious of humanity in general.

MaTT4281 - well stated. In this case, sports... more specifically, Carmelo Anthony, appears as the target for some deep-seated resentment that has less to do with basketball and more to do with a personal prism that only sees negative light.
selfish - Melo played while injured
wannabe - wanna be like who exactly? Mike? Denzel? Who? Tom Cruise perhaps?
moronic - not unless you think representing your country in the Olympics is moronic
idiotic - see above (this is just getting silly)
self aggrandizing - name one pro player in any sport with a tiny ego. Please.
one dimensional - sorry, 29 and 8 is not one-dimensional
coach killing - cut the drama queen-isms. No coaches were killed in the filming of last years highlight reel.
out of shape - patently false. This ain't no Mr. Olympia contest. Kevin Durant is a stick figure. You gotta problem with that?
no passing - sheesh. If Carmelo passed more you would diss him for "avoiding responsibility"
inefficient - yawn
overpaid - it ain't your money
team gutting - he ain't the general manager
playoff losing - now you're just being a cry baby
chucker - okay, you can have that one

Lol very original
c'mon bonn, really, .. I mean, really... is that your absolute best commentary on a basketball chat?
Like TeamBall said, "very original."
Then again, you can always refute the rebuttal to the "why I hate Carmelo" checklist.
NBA hoops is entertainment. Nothing more.

Is confounding support for the team with liking the current players really the best, most original you can do?

1) ubuntu, a concept that has existed as long as human beings have worked collectively to succeed as a group.

I'm apparently not a fan.
Of course sports are a distraction. Whether the Knicks win or lose, I still have to go to work tomorrow, I still get to take my niece to the fair, and I still will be coming home to the same apartment each night. We're celebrating and complaining about the success and failure of a group of men, whom the vast majority of us have never met, that is ultimately out of our control.
We only have so much free time we can allot to any given thing. If you don't enjoy watching the team (or aren't 'entertained', I should say), then you're wasting valuable time that is better spent elsewhere. All comes down to priorities.
I guess that's why I take to task any so called fans who spend their free time telling others why they should not enjoy watching this team.

Interesting
tkf - as your NY pride commands you to root against Knicks players and for the home team that is no longer your home team, perhaps you would be less conflicted, and better for your health (yes The Answer Man cares about your health) that you simply adopt the colors of your current residence and invest your passion into the Atlanta Hawks.
Your resentment for Carmelo Anthony is at such a fever pitch that we should hope you never meet him on an elevator.
I see. It's kind of like "Opposing the war means you're against the troops"
You're following George Bush's playbook.Wouldn't Melo be considered part of the troops in this scenario? It's more like saying "Opposing the troops means you're against the troops."
I agree, it does sound like something Dubya would say.
The point is that both are advocating blind allegiance to a bad course and are not recognizing the greater good in raising objections.
Out of curiousity, what is the greater good by raising objections in this scenario? Trying to convince people to stop watching and going to games?

Stop paying Dolan
Bonn - Dolan owns the team
He writes the checks.
Matt4281 - eloquently stated.
Sport is not war. We play for fun. We play for the joy of competition. We play for the comaraderie. We do not play to kill.
The artistry of the game is what makes The Answer Man smile. The extra pass. the steal and the breakaway. The 13-2 run that brings the Garden to its feet.
The process is what makes viewing enjoyable. The final score is temporary. A thing of beauty is a joy forever.
Andrea Bargnani will affect how the Knicks play basketball in a positive way.

Misterearl some people will hate so much they can't enjoy the game and won't support the team and they call them selves fans. Now I'm not calling anyone on this forum this but do you remember a soccer team in I believe in South America lost a game in a championship round or runner up. When they got back to their country a couple of the players were murdered by so called fans because they didn't play to their liking. Hate is a bad thing. I'm not saying anyone on this forum is like that. All I am saying is that a so called fan who has so much rage and hate for a player on a team needs to check him self out or maybe get some help. I'm a die hard Knicks fan and I get upset when they loose but I do not single out a player with raging hate every time I post or almost every time I post.A fan is just a fan who should enjoy the game win or loose. It's cool to be upset win you loose. Taking a player personal all the time is sick and you need some real help no matter how well you articulate your words you are still a mental case.

overpaid - it ain't your money
team gutting - he ain't the general manager
playoff losing - now you're just being a cry baby
chucker - okay, you can have that one
Thats what it mostly comes down to, earl. You guys should get a room together!
hopefully they will envite me along with them. Bonn, can you honestly say that some of the Melo haters don't have a personal, deep rooted hatred for him that goes beyond basketball? Some of the posts have no bases in reality.
I don't think it goes beyond basketball - sometimes they criticize him for being chubby or greedy (not waiting to be an FA) but that's still related to basketball because of how it impacts the team. A-Rod's probably the only player in NY that gets the kind of criticism you're talking about.

which is why my NY pride doesn't allow me to root for some selfish, wannabe, moronic, idiotic, self aggrandizing, one dimensional, coach killing, out of shape, no passing, inefficient, overpaid, team gutting, playoff losing, chucker!!!!!!!!!!!!And I MEAN IT!
MaTT4281 - well stated. In this case, sports... more specifically, Carmelo Anthony, appears as the target for some deep-seated resentment that has less to do with basketball and more to do with a personal prism that only sees negative light.
selfish - Melo played while injuredwannabe - wanna be like who exactly? Mike? Denzel?

I was half tempted to post a crap load of examples but, that would be putting certain individuals on blast and, that wouldn't be right, no matter how I feel about their views.
bonn - you are moronic, idiotic, self aggrandizing, selfish and one dimensional.
But that's just related to what you write so it's cool, right?
Of course not.
bonn - you are an informed and passionate Knicks fan, whose views I respect, whether I agree or not.
There is no disputing that Carmelo Anthony is a target for abuse for reasons that are grounded in bias against the successful ghetto superstar who had everything given to him and never had to work hard. His talents were bestowed at birth and his jumper was inherited from his moms. His smile is a taunt of arrogance.
His wife flaunts her sexy and sits in the front row. She is hotter than what he deserves and probably a gold digger. He held the owner of the franchise at gunpoint forcing him to sacrifice his best assets, thereby gutting the team, so he could work where he wanted. In a system of forced labor, nobody works where they want. Free will is a privilege reserved for owners, not the workers.
The media takes the parable and runs with it, noting his obscene salary at every opportunity. The return can never match the investment. Miley Cyrus has a net worth of $120 million. It's cool. She is an entertainer. She is an artist. She has it easy. The ghetto superstar must carry the burden of a franchise. The ghetto superstar is also destined to fail. According to tkf and dk7th, the inevitability of that failure is cause for celebrating defeat, boycotting the franchise, or riot.
The ghetto superstar needs to be run out of town. We need things to go back to the way they used to be back in the good old days. We should send the ol' boys to Carmelo's house to burn a cross on his lawn.
