2) a non-lethal representation of war, which has also existed so long as human beings have become collectives whose primary aim is survival.

the essence of entertainment is distraction. that the world of sport has degenerated to serve the lowest impulses in people-- from athletes to owners to agents to fans-- does not mean that it's essence does not persist in the weltgeist or collective unconscious of humanity in general.

hence i take to task any so-called fans who looks at sports as mere entertainment. are they truly fans? not on my block.

I'm apparently not a fan.

Of course sports are a distraction. Whether the Knicks win or lose, I still have to go to work tomorrow, I still get to take my niece to the fair, and I still will be coming home to the same apartment each night. We're celebrating and complaining about the success and failure of a group of men, whom the vast majority of us have never met, that is ultimately out of our control.

We only have so much free time we can allot to any given thing. If you don't enjoy watching the team (or aren't 'entertained', I should say), then you're wasting valuable time that is better spent elsewhere. All comes down to priorities.

I guess that's why I take to task any so called fans who spend their free time telling others why they should not enjoy watching this team.

When they got back to their country a couple of the players were murdered by so called fans because they didn't play to their liking. Hate is a bad thing. I'm not saying anyone on this forum is like that. All I am saying is that a so called fan who has so much rage and hate for a player on a team needs to check him self out or maybe get some help. I don't think it goes beyond basketball - sometimes they criticize him for being chubby or greedy (not waiting to be an FA) but that's still related to basketball because of how it impacts the team. A-Rod's probably the only player in NY that gets the kind of criticism you're talking about.

He held the owner of the franchise at gunpoint forcing him to sacrifice his best assets, thereby gutting the team, so he could work where he wanted. In a system of forced labor, nobody works where they want. Free will is a privilege reserved for owners, not the workers.

The media takes the parable and runs with it, noting his obscene salary at every opportunity. The return can never match the investment. Miley Cyrus has a net worth of $120 million. It's cool. She is an entertainer. She is an artist. She has it easy. The ghetto superstar must carry the burden of a franchise. The ghetto superstar is also destined to fail. According to tkf and dk7th, the inevitability of that failure is cause for celebrating defeat, boycotting the franchise, or riot.
