your forgetting that defense is played as a team. As long as he plays alongside any big not named Amare it should be OK.
It all depends on the role Woodson lays out for him. Put him in the Novak/Copeland role, and I don't see how the defense suffers with him replacing two guys that can't defend a folding chair. We may see an Artest/Melo/Barg front line at times, and even with that we're atleast bolstering the perimeter D with Ron on the court, despite the demotion at C.

If you're factoring in salary, you have to also consider we're lowering our payroll for Summer 2015 by making this trade, when Amar'e/Tyson/Melo (assuming he opts in for the final year) all come off the books.
But we added that salary back in with the JR and Prigioni resignings.

Bargnani doesn't excel at anything..... has he had his moments? sure, that is not uncommon in the NBA, but if this guy excelled at anything, he would still be a raptor...

WOW are you clever. NOT! We realize that if AB was ballin out of his mind then no way we could get him. That's the idea of trying to buy low and see if you can get a player to reach his full potential. You are a doubter and that's fine, but you have no idea whether or not AB is gonna play up to his full talent level here in NY.
This isn't Toronto and it's going to be a different environment AB will be placed in. He'll have a different role, which will be based on a different style of play. How Woody uses AB and how he coaches him will be different as well. In fact we've done pretty well at coaching up our players and getting good results. If you're a Knicks fan and have been paying attention rather than kicking rocks, you'd know that. Why should we believe you in thinking AB won't be better here in NY? Recent history has been pretty good with guys we've brought in. Woody has been pretty good at getting his players to buy in and play better and working on their games to improve. It's going to be up to Woody to coach AB up and to give him a role that will maximize his potential. AB has the talent to be a great player in this league.

I think I am actually one of the few that liked Bargs game. djsunyc is his number one fan. I think he would have been perfect here last year also. I followed the Rockets also last year and thought he would be perfect there as well as a stretch 4. Gotta stop looking at imperfections and look more if the player fits the team as is. Bargs is going to surprise a lot of people.

No you are right, this is NY, where the media and fans place unrealistic expectations upon fragile individuals.. he will not only have more pressure here ,as evidence by these threads, but if he stumbles he will be eaten alive.. he will be begging for the booing in toronto..

His rebounding is suspect at best but I would not say he is useless in defense. His value will be gauged on his scoring prowess and his ability to open up scoring for his teammates. The defense I don't see as that bad. He is 7 foot and unless you put him against an athletic SF, I think he will do just fine. I actually think he is better than Amare but that is not saying much.
Also, you can hide his defense liabilities by playing some zone.

"It disrupts our technical process by not allowing us to make use of options that only a center with the characteristics of 'il Mago' [Bargnani] can give us.
I think it has been said a number of times, it is important to focus on Bargs strengths. I think he will be a grat addition to the Knicks.

being the number one option on a bad team (toronto) lacking scorers from just about every position was truly a situation built to succeed. Of course he didn't look good. He didn't look so bad when he was playing next to Bosch and he was pleasantly compared to Gallo. Also, he didn't even play the entire past season.

you guys are reaching.... the cliche's are fine, but then there is reality.. you can say that about any player.. "focus on their strenghts".. Ok, so why didn't we do that with novak? camby? why do we complain about amare?
here are two things I know the knicks need... Rebounding and points in the paint.. he provides none of that...
