Knicks · Shumpert going into his 3rd yr. (page 3)

gunsnewing wrote:It's not that big a difference. He will have multiple games where he gets close to 10 boards. Doesn't mean you trade him cos he can't average 6. He is the only guy on this team with 2way potential

yea it is a big difference here is why.. he will have games where he may get 10, but he will have a lot of games where he will get 2.. which is why it is called an averaged... a 2 board jump is a lot for a guy in the back court on this team, where his role is not clearly defined.. I mean is that being unreasonable? no one is saying trade him guns... but be realistic.. knicks have not resigned a draft pick in the past 15-20 years.... it is some cause for concern... I would like to keep him, but you know how many players that we had that put up good numbers, had a lot of potential that are no longer here...

I like shumpert, followed him at G-tech, the stadium is 8 miles from my house used to go to the games.. I want him to do well, no matter where he is....

gunsnewing @ 9/4/2013 12:09 PM
And he is cheap and and should be here along with Melo past 2015. Good riddance to everyone else

gunsnewing wrote:And he is cheap and and should be here along with Melo past 2015. Good riddance to everyone else

let me ask, suppose THJ turns out to be a decent player? want him gone? you want chandler gone? why? because he can't guard hibbert? no shame in that....

you keep saying he is cheap, you think he can be a poor mans wade... ok. lets go with that, then why not increase his role.. bye to bargnani, let carmelo walk, get a PG in here to help enhance shumperts game... I mean if 2015 is truly the goal, then we should be thinking much differently now...

tell shumpert if you truly think he can be an Allstar talent, we are going to make you a key player, starter, focal point.. we are going to let you be you... then you can truly assess him and decide where to go by 2015... trust me, on this current team, with this current set up, he is going to be underutilized and under developed...

So you're saying Shumpert won't get any opportunities to show this at the start of the season with JR Smith's 16 shots a game missing from the lineup...

gunsnewing @ 9/4/2013 12:21 PM
Probably and then traded by the deadline and you will hear leaked rumors from Knicks souces to Stephen A Smith on espn about how Sources close to the Knicks are not happy with Shumperts development and attitude. Woodson is unhappy etc and he will be traded for the next underachieving castoff or to Boston along with 3 future 1st rd picks for Rondo. When we can sign a pg like Rondo straight up in only 2yrs

too bad we don't have the picks to trade.. you actually think boston is going to want a 2019, 2021 and 2023 pick... really? we can't trade 2015 or 2017 pick.... rondo is a pipe dream..

not in this offense, on this team... but what happens when JR comes back... listen, when you develop young talent you have to have an environment conducive to that.. why did we trade for bargnani why not increase shumperts role and bring in a player other than AB that actually filled a need of ours?

yellowboy90 @ 9/4/2013 12:51 PM
It has nothing to do with JR being here or not. Shump will have time and touches on the court regardless.
nixluva @ 9/4/2013 1:12 PM
Shump has the opportunity as a guard to score the ball if he wants to. I think he's been less selfish and a bit fearful of calling his own number, but the opportunity is there. It's up to Shump. I feel Shump has a lot more talent he hasn't tapped into yet and part of it is a mental thing. When he plays confident you see the talent as we did in the playoffs when the light switch was turned on. I think he knows now what he's capable of.
gunsnewing @ 9/4/2013 1:15 PM
It's not that he is fearful its that Woodson's game plan every game is for Melo to take every shot and secure the scoring title. If you deviate from the game plan you go in the doghouse or you are let go like Lin. I have Shump at 12pts cos I don't expect him to be given anymore freedom on offense. Especially now that we have Bargnani and Amare. I expect efficiency numbers to go up.

I expect 17-20pts by 2015 if he is not traded

NYKBocker @ 9/4/2013 1:16 PM
The sad thing is that Shump already had a PG running mate but Knicks let him go. Would have loved for them to develop together.

yep... I said it then and I will say it now.. a true eye towards the future would have been to develop lin and shumpert.... if carmelo opts out.. HOLLA!!! later chump!! then we can talk about adding a piece or two that would fit well with lin and shumpert providing that they both proved to be the players we thought...

shumpert can be a good compliment to anyone. the key is, carmelo isn't a good compliment to him.. time to end the carmelo era, build towards something lasting with a real chance to change this franchise....

don't know about that. you see, woodson is going to have to make a decision as to whether he truly wants a defensive-oriented team. the problem remains that felton and melo are not adequate at distributing the ball at their respective positions so that means that too often chandler and shumpert and artest are going to be out of sync and picking up scraps. if woodson goes with a two point guard lineup because felton remains demonstrably inadequate, then that pushes shumpert either out of position to the SF spot or out of the starting lineup-- meaning 20 minutes only.

i really am a big fan of shumpert but the only way he gets significant minutes is if he is allowed to develop his finishing and, just as importantly, his playmaking skills. i am not talking about raw assist numbers but his ability to keep the ball moving ahead of the defense.

i mention this because it is human nature to want to hold on to the ball when you finally get the ball because it has been sticking in somebody else's hands too much of the time. look at the usage to assist rates for bargnani and anthony to see why this is so.

hence, if he has the ball in his hands and he is not a particularly adept slasher/finisher nor a good playmaker then where does that leave him?

now if woodson is smart, he is going to start shumpert in the backcourt with either udrih or prigioni-- provided that neither defers to anthony-- and then have artest and chandler round out the starting lineup.

alas, woodson is not smart, he is desperate and unimaginative. and he is not able to exert any authority where it matters most.

for comparison sake, i will echo the example of kahwai leonard that tkf raised earlier: the reason why he was able to develop is because they have players who know how to share the ball properly with one another and all are willing defenders.

we don't have an incubator situation here we have a masturbator situation.

gunsnewing @ 9/4/2013 2:40 PM
It is a lot easier to develop for coaches like pops Vogel and Thibs. Shumpert is probably as talented if not more than Leonard, Stephenson and butler but he is a knick. I can only imagine what does other coaches would get out of him. There no patience for developing young players in New York and probably will never be while Dolan is owner

You should just let the Melo thing go.

we talking about shumpert, why does everything have to be tied to being a "compliment for melo".. kind of tiring if you ask me... I want the knicks to be great.. melo is not in that picture my man.
