Knicks · Woodson setting up keeping Chris Smith? (page 3)

IronWillGiroud @ 10/25/2013 12:09 AM
smith could have second reason for being on team: enhance locker room environment to keep jr focused,

jr, with brother chris in locker room, has someone that relies on him

he will want to act as a better model for his rookie brother,

before we go bashing chris smith, think about it. real talk.

don't get me wrong, he still sucks. but i'm not bashing him, he just sucks as a basketball player but has reason

Theres pros and cons to every situation. Clearly, the pros to adding Chris is related to JR. And Woodson already made that clear. If the franchise sees JR as a cornerstone piece, then his brother comes along for the ride. What I don't get is why do we have such long pointless threads over the 15th man every year, when we clearly have major problems within the first 5 as far as defense and rebounding. I also think adding Bargs is not as great as everybody thinks. I don't see a few draft picks and trades worth in Bargs compared to what we had in Novak. Bargs used to be a Novak type, but I think Bargs will fall into the Amari category and spend most of this time on the bench due to injury. Metta World Peace is clearly our best addition and should be in the starting linup....But thats another discussion for another thread.

Chris Smith does not suck. He's better than any non NBA player, and way better than anybody on this board. So I can't say he sucks, because I can't beat him and I'm far from being a bad player....even at 40. But I do agree that Tyler, Murry, Diogo, and even Powell should be ahead of Chris. But politics always plays a part in every situation.....Especially when money is involved. JR's low contract cost, the CCA agency and having a brother near by ready to go tell moma what JR is doing, plays an important role in keeping Chris. Personally, I would trade them both as a package deal. I like what I see from Hardaway Jr......as a six man off the bench, to replace JR Smith. Smith wants to be a starter....Bargs wants to be a starter.....I'm starting to agree with Phil Jackson.

We are looking very sloppy right now...... No one knows or agrees with their role. JR, Amari, Bargs, Metta, Prigs, Beno. Whats the point of having a deep team, if theirs no clear leader or structure.

1) Why?
2) What draft picks? We have basically none.

FWIW, I've heard the #Knicks are "going young" with their final three spots. The guess here is: Toure' Murry, Chris Smith & Jeremy Tyler.

Source: #Knicks have cut Josh Powell and Ike Diogu. Hearing the team wants to go younger. I'm expecting Toure Murry to make the team.

LOL, Chris made it. At least Murry made it on the team.

I think we keep
1. Toure
2. Jeremy Tyler
3. Diogu

And if not Diogu, then some other vet Big who is cut from another team or who we can bring out of retirement like we did with Rasheed last yr. But not Chris Smith.

Those are the three guys I'm pencilling in as well, though I wouldn't be upset if they took Leslie over Diogu based off of potential. a year practicing against Melo, Peace, Smith and Shump everyday could do him some good. as for Chris smith, I remember him being solid in Louisville. I don't think he's an NBA player, but he shouldn't suck this much. On the plus side, at least he's able to maintain the same level of play he had in the summer league. Consistency counts, I guess.

Can Tyler play any defense at all, judging from this clip, he played absolutely no defense , he maybe worse then amare, copeland and novak..How do you have a 6+ minute highlight reel without any defense whats so ever..I remember watch a Tony Douglas clip the day we drafted him, I couldn't find a single clip in which he had 1 assist and he turned out to be one of the worst floor generals we ever had..

helloharv @ 10/25/2013 12:39 PM
No way he makes it.
smackeddog @ 10/25/2013 1:04 PM
Chris Smith should be able to hold down the back up C spot, when Tyson needs rest. Should even be able to switch to PF if Amare or K-Mart go down. Great move!

Looks like Steve mills read my sarcastic post and changed course to appease me:

skeng @ 10/25/2013 1:28 PM
this is very WTF..

I'm not as pissed as I was initially, because I thought he'd be added at the expense of Murry or Tyler. Now we can cut him whenever K-Mart or STAT goes down and we sign some big man instead. Assuming we actually have the balls to cut him. We still need a big body at the 4/5 as others have pointed out

O Lord, JR's brother vs Murry. If they don't pick Murry I will be pissed.

There is no rational basketball fan that can say Chris Smith is better than Murry
sealy @ 10/25/2013 1:36 PM
Glad to hear Aldrich is staying bc they really needed a backup big.

What garbage that Smith is even still in consideration.

Imagine if this guy makes it over Murry, a guy who has done nothing but bust his ass and produce. The guys on this team will certainly not respect that and why should they? So irritating, but not surprising considering the franchise.

Agreed. This is more of a "Seriously?!" kind of moment to me. Flat out bad decision, but if we hold onto Toure and Tyler, and can sign Ivan Johnson before the postseason, it'll be much easier to accept.

At this point, I'm still holding onto hope that it's at least CDR or Leslie that makes it over Chris...

smackeddog @ 10/25/2013 1:52 PM
What a joke

smackeddog @ 10/25/2013 1:53 PM

So we lose out on Tyler. Now we have no young PF to develop and use as insurance.

Why did I become cursed with being a Knick fan.
NYKBocker @ 10/25/2013 1:57 PM
Surprised about CDR. I thought he would have stuck here.
MaTT4281 @ 10/25/2013 2:01 PM
I've come to the conclusion: Mills is purposefully inflicting pain upon himself to atone for his last go around here.

Seriously? Tyler's gone now too? He'll be healthy in 6 weeks! Aldrich/Smith/Murry...this was so easy not to fuck up, yet wound up with two strikes...

The only sliver of hope is that unusual contract of Chris Smiths, where he gets all of his salary if he just plays one game. Maybe the plan is to cut him once Tyler's foot is healed. I hope so- I was looking forward to seeing what Tyler could do.

smackeddog @ 10/25/2013 2:05 PM
So our roster is:

PG- Felton, Bargs, Beno, Murray, C Smith
SG- Shump, JR, Hardaway Jr
SF- Melo, Metta (who some say is more of a PF at this point)
PF- Bargs, Amar'e, K-mart (all injury prone and 2 only capable of playing every other game in back to backs
C- Tyson, Alrich.

Our front court is a disaster waiting to happen, injury wise. Thank goodness we have 5 PG's though, maybe we can get one of the to stand on anothers shoulders and use them to back up Tyson...
