Knicks · Bargnani preseason numbers (page 1)

We got him to stretch defenses and draw bigs from the basket, right?

he is 24/63 from the field (38%), and a stellar 3 of 15 from 3 (20%).

i think there is about a 30% chance this is his last season in the NBA. i'm not sure if he doesn't care or just fell apart, but certainly not a good sign.

i thought acquiring Bargnani was a good idea (albeit at a classic "knicks bidding against themselves" comically high price). not sure how much of a leash he will have, but he is basically a zero defensively, gives us nothing on the glass, and if he isn't making his shots, he needs to take a seat.

Bonn1997 @ 10/26/2013 10:55 AM
He's not good enough to give up assets for. We should have waited to see if Toronto was going to amnesty him and then offered him a league min contract. That's how to steal a player. Otherwise, move on to someone else.

this isn't a thread about his acquisition, its about his horrid preseason shooting. whats up with that?

CrushAlot @ 10/26/2013 10:58 AM
He has definitely been a disappointment. I am hoping it is related to conditioning and getting over being ill. I think the cap space when the Knicks need it negates the 'assets' given up and I think Grunwald looked at it like a win win situation when he made the move.

im not the biggest bargnani fan but i wouldnt say theres a chance this is his last yr. lol

im willing to be patient with him as long as he plays some defense. at least hes getting blocks

my bad, i thought his contract expired after this season. regardless, his current trajectory is that this is his last NBA contract. the guy can't defend, can't rebound, and now apparently can't shoot. even at 7 feet, there's no place for a guy in the NBA who is apathetic and brings nothing to the table

Bigsmooth I have watched intently.
Bargs is rushing his shot--he shoots the ball without eying the rim!!! he catches and shoots so fast he never sets. He hasnt played big minutes in 2 years--hes best for the 2nd unit at back up C where he can play in and out for 18-20 minutes. Hes not a 35 minute player right now. He has shown he plays better D than some thought and the double big in unit two with 3 guards would work wel.

EnySpree @ 10/26/2013 11:13 AM
I see Bargs as not having his legs. He looks to be out of shape. His shot is flat. When is hiring the front of the rim that's all legs.

Also I see him as being a little overwhelmed by his role right now. He's on a good team right now and he's in egg shells. I give him the benefit of doubt for now because if he was hitting his shots we wouldn't be talking about him. I think he will start to hit them. The game has to come back to him sooner rather than later.

gunsnewing @ 10/26/2013 11:17 AM
Bargnani needs to perform whether he is in the 1st or 2nd unit. Unless he is going to be relegated to the end of the bench he needs to play better. Amare and Kmart will play better and Bargnani will be this years Novak without the 3pt shot

I thought Amare looked really good. I just don't see anyway that he holds up for many games. If it was about work ethic and overcoming something I think he makes it back. I don't think that is the case. I think his knees are totally shot.
callmened @ 10/26/2013 11:23 AM
he better fix this quick before the garden starts to BOOOOOOOOOOO him. he thought Toronto was tough, he hasnt seen anthing yet...LOL

I thought amare was horrible. He can score but he's such a liability every where else.

Why was Bargnani able to play well with bosh and now he can't play next to Tyson. Is he trash 2yrs later at 27? It's preseason. Bargnani needs a chance to prove himself early because if he does well our ceiling will be higher. If Bargnani is a bust and relegated to the end of the bench they might as well pack it up and go home

He didn't play well with Bosh. He scored well.

Tyson Melo and Shumpert will have to rebound for him. We need him to score if he no longer can't then we might as well pack it up and go home. We can't have Melo carry us to an early playoff exit again

We need a 2 man game between Melo and someone. Bargnani is the only one with a remote chance to be that other someone. Amare won't last

That's what concerns me most. If he doesn't get outta this funk soon, you know for a fact the boo birds will start to come out and that'll make it that much more harder for him. He's just not playing well, bottom line. Nothing's clicking for him at all. Not sure of the exact reasons. They're multiple I'm sure: Recovering from pneumonia, not being in top shape, new team (with much higher expectations), new teammates, new role, new city, etc. I for one WILL NEVER BOO the guy. I never boo any of my teams' players -- even A-Rod....I'll be patient & give him time to get there. Our fans are as fickle as they come though. I thought last night he looked a little better and more into it -- yeah, the shot still wasn't falling and he made some mistakes but his energy level was definitely up a notch -- you could see it esp. on defense. That's a start.

Overall, I just wanna see more effort...And offensively, I just want to see more conviction. he looks to be too passive and deferring too much to everyone else...I'd love to see him step up to the forefront and take charge a little more...I think if he remains a starter, the plan should be to get him off early and often...If he starts off well hitting a couple of shots, the easier things might become and the more comfortable he'll feel...Last night, I thought he was passing up open looks early on. Take those shots! Also, if I were Woody, I would've drew up the last play for AB last night...Imagine if AB tied the game or won it with a 3 on that last play? Everyone would've been lauding him today saying, "you see, that's why we brought him here!" It would've been worth a shot. Missed opportunity I thought.. Give this guy a chance to be a hero... We need him to play much bigger...Right now, he's not even a factor and it's gone on a few games now...Hopefully it'll come, man. Remaining hopeful.

Bargs has about the same trajectory on his shot from 2pt range as he does from 3pt range. There is very little arc on it. Its been a constant this preseason. I don't believe its conditioning because he looks pretty spry for a 7fter with his frame. I'm guessing its Barg's shooting mechanics more than anything else. Something the trainers should be working with Bargs to fix.
gunsnewing @ 10/26/2013 11:55 AM
That's what it is. He's feeling his way in. It's going to take a while for him to get comfortable. Right now he is trying to not step on Melos toes. Defensively he is giving more effort than we are accustomed to seeing from him blocking 2 shots yesterday. Young guys who are traded for the first time need time. Remember Allan Houston?

Agreed. I actually think Melo should be going out of his was to defer to Bargs early. That's what I'd be doing -- I'd be telling myself it's important to establish this guy in order for him to help me. And if that's not Melo's call (if the majority of the plays are coming from the bench) then that's gotta be up to Woody. The last shot should've went to AB last night. Give him a chance to tie or win that game. Do everything possible to get this guy comfortable as quick as possible. Still a little disappointed about his rebounding but yeah, he definitely looked a little more lively on the defensive end. He even switched out on Kemba Walker a couple of times and stopped him at least twice. Encouraging....Play hard big fella and good things will happen...That's rule #1 in NY -- GO HARD!!!

That's what it look like Melo has been doing the whole pre-season expect for the B'more game. He called out several plays to get Bargs the ball.
