Won't make a difference if Varied can't play center or stop point guards from penetrating.

JohnStarksFan @ 11/13/2013 1:56 PM
I don't understand how he has fallen out of favor. He is an elite defender, even if he missed a step this year. I guess it's probably best for him to go if this is how his "family" feels about him. No more knickstape (the originator of this). The saddest part about this is going to be when the deal falls through, Shump is stuck here knowing for the third time the organization has sh*t on him, and was signed to an extension. That would sure kill my motivation.

Sincerely hope this doesn't happen. But if the Knicks are really this eager to push Shump, doubt he'd like to sign an extension here beyond the rookie deal. This one will hurt if it goes down...
fishmike @ 11/13/2013 2:00 PM
Faried is a good player especially with small line ups because he's a dominating rebounder. Limited offensive game. At least he's young and we arent trading Shump for a guy about to be 40.

This probably helps us, but makes us even more married to JR.

nyk4ever @ 11/13/2013 2:01 PM
oh awesome, this should open up more playing time for chris smith
fishmike @ 11/13/2013 2:03 PM
I totally agree Shump was poorly used here and underdeveloped, but this is an equal value trade and Faried is young so Im not sure what the fuss is about.

Is Shump an elite defender? Maybe...it would have been nice to see a Shump/Lin backcourt get a couple years together and see where we are. Thats what a well run team would do. Thats why Indy is playing so well. Its not the Knick way

alexs @ 11/13/2013 2:07 PM
He has fallen out of favor with the coach? With Dolan yes we know that....and our backbone-less coach just joins the dance of the blind leader
jrodmc @ 11/13/2013 2:13 PM
You don't fuhuck with this owner. He'll shoot you even if the round passes through his own nutsack first.
I don't like this. I thought the head shaving and "I'm back with the team now" was more than enough to make public amends to the emperor.

I swear Jummy Turd just loves to validate the homer opinions on this board about home grown talent.

Any THJr trade rumors popping up yet?

anrst @ 11/13/2013 2:13 PM
so we get another power forward? and this is all we can get for an emerging two-way player with peremeter versatility? ... all we can get is an energy guy in return? they are a dime a dozen.
GustavBahler @ 11/13/2013 2:14 PM
I get the feeling that starting JR has something to do with this. Shump was his only obstacle. Shump has been inconsistent but so has pretty much everyone else on this team. No way is Faried the best we can do. It would require some effort for Mills to do better but when has he ever put in any effort into making the Knicks a winner?

Got to hand it to JR. In spite of everything, in spite of looking like a 12th man so far, he's getting promoted.

smackeddog @ 11/13/2013 2:15 PM
Phew! Misread the thread title- thought we were about to trade Shump, was so relieved when I realized it said Schump!

The key thing about Faried is: would he be loyal to Dolan? Would he do whatever he commands? After all that's what we base personnel moves on. Not only would this move eliminate our only backcourt defender, but it would replace them with a front court player who can't defend at all- in one move we spectacularly worsen our defense at two positions! Great move!

fishmike @ 11/13/2013 2:16 PM
FYI: Faried is 6'7 (bad) with a 7'0 wingspan (ok).

He's something we do need.. a hustle player in the frontcourt. We have zero energy there. He's a lot like JYD (Jerom Williams) but he rebounds like Rodman. I think he would become an MSG and UK favorite.

we cant start Bargs/Melo at the 4/5. There is no huslte, speed, energy, rebounding is weak.

This would be a good lineup (while Chandler is out)
C Bargs
F Faried
F Melo
G JR
G Felton/Prigs

Personally I hope the next to go is Felton. Im done with him. Would love to see JR go but its more likely the Knicks waive Hardaway to sign JR's dad than actually trading him

Solace @ 11/13/2013 2:17 PM
I have mixed reactions to this. I guess we'll see. I like Shumpert a lot but he's not getting a shot while Woodson is coach. I like Faried also, even though him being undersized is a concern. Eh I don't know. I'm kind of already giving up hope for this team. The moment we gave up a shot at Chris Paul, the ceiling of this team was capped at 54 wins.

i like faried and agree with you 100% about him being a garden/uk fav, i just dont want to give shumpert up. i get it, to get something ya gotta give - i just don't wanna give up on shumpert yet though.

So are we witnessing the return of a rich man's Balkman?

Hope JR's knees hold up. Is use of medicinal weed in international airspace NBA approved?

tkf @ 11/13/2013 2:27 PM
If they can do this straight up, which would shock the hell out of me. I would do it immediately. I just have a feeling denver would want more as they are getting the better player right now..

We do need a rebounder. The problem is due to his offensive short comings you can't play him next to Chandler or K-Mart. So that means playing him next to Bargs or Amar'e- neither of whom plays any defense either. So that would mean you'd have to choose between no offense or no defense- it ain't a recipe for success...

fishmike @ 11/13/2013 2:30 PM
I hope this happens. Not for all the right reasons but hear me out

Faried can really develop into a Rodman type player here. There is a huge need for what he brings and he will get a ton of minutes because he brings things nobody else on the roster does. If he doesnt start he will get 30 minutes a game and I predict with those minutes he will average 10ppg on 55% shooting and 15 rebounds. He's not a shot blocker but he's a shot challenger, and he gets a lot of blocks in traffic when guys are trying putbacks etc... High energy guy, he's young and he plays full speed.

The wrong reason is simply JR Smith. Woody and MSG are commited to him. Everyone on this board knows Shump should be the starting SG and we should be calling plays for him and developing him. Knicks dont do that and clearly have no intention to do so, so might as well trade him for someone who will grow here.
