Knicks · knicks should approach bulls for a deal (page 1)

melo needs another player.
bulls need another player to play with rose.

even tho rose is out for the year, he will still come back as a decent player.

knicks can recoup and shed some salary in the process while possibly acquiring a pick.

think deng + charlotte's #1 and future pick

I've never been a fan of Deng's game. No thanks.
NardDogNation @ 11/25/2013 11:55 AM
That's awful. A single draft pick and a guy we can't use for one of the best players in the game is highway robbery. We need multiple picks and prospects for a Melo did to work OR a younger inferior star (e.g. Blake Griffin).

Defends, plays hurt, rebounds well, can stretch floor, good team guy. Why don't you like him?

No thanks, I'm only interested in one way players! Preferably with no concept if how to play team defense.

I don't think it's terrible. He's saying 2 picks: the Charlotte #1 AND a future pick (presumably another #1). Add a couple of future 2nd rounders along with Deng and it becomes realistic. Plausible from a Bulls' perspective too -- teaming up Melo to go with Rose is something they may really consider. Melo's really having a good year so far -- shooting % is a little low but he's putting up points and his rebounding #s are a career high.

Before we throw the towel in and move Melo, I'd like to see us try some subtle different things FIRST before we decide to scrap everything. Incorporate Amar'e back into the mix full-time, even for only 20 mins (he now starts playing every day)...Play Cole Aldrich and Toure Murry. See what those guys can do. What if they both had a positive impact and it helps us turn things around? What if Murry's solidified our up & down backcourt and Aldrich gave us something close to what the Plumlee bros. are giving their teams in PHX & Brooklyn? Why are we so against trying to see if these guys can help??? And if they can't, cut a few players to open up some room and bring in some fresh faces on the cheap. An athletic PG (Jeremy Pargo/Curtis Jerrells); a dynamite shooter that could play some point & add some much needed hype and excitement around the team (Seth Curry); a skilled all-around C (Marcus Cousin); a legit shot-blocker (Hassan Whiteside); a workman-like, 2-way presence at the 4 (Kevin Jones, Ike Diogu, Jeremy Tyler when healthy??). I think there's quite a few players out there that we could get on the cheap that fit in here and could supply what we're lacking. A few of these guys could be just what the doctor ordered! These are all things we could do...I'd do my diligence first going this route before unloading Melo and throwing the towel.

I've always thought that Loul would be a perfect fit next to Melo at the 4. Like Martin said, he does everything well and is particularly long, which should help make up for the height/weight disparity when we play Melo against conventional 4's. I'd expect two second round picks from the Bobcats in the deal for us.

I think Chicago would welcome Shumpert home at a fraction of the price and allow Jimmy Butler to play the 3 spot.

I agree with your rationale about moving Melo. We've waited nearly 15 years for a player as good as him and should turn every stone before we decide to move him. Even so, I'm not too confident that end-of-the-bench additions will offer any insight into whether we should move him or not. I think this team is too heavily flawed to win as constructed. We artificially force too many physical mismatches that we do a poor job of exploiting; not to mention how difficult it is to build with a slew of one dimensional players. I definitely think that Melo can be a central piece with a winner but I don't think we can put enough around him to make it work and his prime/trade value is dwindling, which is why we need to begin to make more aggressive moves.

remember when king1 used to make posts like this and then whatever he said actually happened?

Man had connections to David Lee somehow. Wonder if he's giving Warrior message boards scoops now.

If we're not getting any good young players that fit into our future we should receive at least 3 first round picks in any deal
smackeddog @ 11/25/2013 1:48 PM
Bulls have said Rose is out for the season. I doubt he ever returns to elite status- although that's good for the Knicks, it's a shame for him and the nba. Injuries suck!

He is a good player.. But he seems to be overvalued by everyone... except the Bulls who refuse to work out an extension with him.
He always seems hurt and although the Bulls are a decent team, his Stats are not Star #s.

The thread is about trading Carmelo... If that is the case, then any deal revolving around Deng is a bad Deal.

ramtour420 @ 11/25/2013 2:58 PM
Did I just read Shumpert for Rose? That would be a classic Knick move. And then we will never beat the Bulls. . .
Bonn1997 @ 11/25/2013 3:10 PM
I'd want a very good player who's still in his peak. I'd love to take Mike Conley or Marc Gasol (assuming he recovers) off of Memphis' hands.

Even in his current predicament, I'd still take Rose over Shumpert in a landslide. Derrick will be out the season, not the rest of his career, which still will figure to be pretty damn good albeit not elite.

I might want them to throw in Teague and Tony Snell as well.

like some have said...you do this when we have no choice. If the Knicks suck in January, as the trading deadline approaches....we should look into this.

I also agree that something else should be added...throw in Taj Gobson and we have a deal.

Knicks still need a point guard so if the Bulls don't want to give up a future pick, then give us Teague's little bro.

Why deal our best player if it doesn't lead to the pathway to something else? We'd still be a middling team and for what? The right to overpay several dudes and not have draft picks until 2018 with exception to the Charlotte pick?

IronWillGiroud @ 11/25/2013 7:25 PM
I can dig it. Melos value is about to drop through the floorboards and he is also a very scary flight risk.
