Knicks · have folks totally forgotten what really made Linsanity happen? (page 1)

fishmike @ 12/31/2013 10:23 AM
Guard play... that simple. In steps a guy who dribbled with his head up, could get in the lane, could make a pass and was a threat to score.

Do folks remember how utterly terrible the team looked with a healthy Melo/Amare/Chandler when Toney Douglas was running point and folks were waiting for Baron Davis to come back?

Im a bit suprised we didnt just get Lowry and work on an extension etc.. This team so desperately needs what he brings. This team is not as bad as its record.

We dont have a 55% post player (Ewing) that allows our PGs to walk the ball up the court and drop it into the paint. We need a floor general to get guys involved. What we have are some 'scorers' chucking the ball at the rim everything they can actually see it.

djsunyc @ 12/31/2013 10:35 AM
knicks traded so many #1 picks that one more wouldn't have hurt - especially for a very good pg in lowry.

but that ship has sailed. everything dolan says or does is mush.

they should talk to detroit and ask them for a amare + shumpert for jennings + josh smith deal.

smackeddog @ 12/31/2013 10:37 AM
Lowry is a short term solution- he's coming up for 30 and reliant on his athleticism. We need wholesale change, so he doesn't really make sense- our 2018 pick will likely be a high one. Not worth it. Plus that 3 he took at the end of the game when we were already beaten showed he's an a**hole. Man has attitude issues and has fought with his past two coaches.

Give us our 2016 first rounder back, you fiend!

I want to blow it up but Lowry would've been a good PG to have. The toughest position to fill and arguably most important as the pg is an extension of the coach. Drafting a PG is risky because unless he is mature beyond his years or like a Rondo who are born leaders. Young PG's take time to develop and learn the NBA game.

Wait didn't we have Jeremy Lin?

Who we waisted no assets to get?

Teams just aren't trading number one picks anymore- they're too valuable under the new cab. Only the Nets and Knicks were stupid enough to realise this in the offseason. Clips couldn't even get a first for Bledsoe, Magic couldn't get one for Redick, Morey couldn't get one for Asik. We gave one for Bargs. Jesus!

Maybe cancelling the Lowry trade means Dolan finally gets it- YOU DON'T TRADE FIRSTS! I think some people are underestimating what first rounders are worth now.

CrushAlot @ 12/31/2013 11:01 AM
Really glad this isn't an ifs and buts thread about Lin but about ball movement and point guard play. The Knicks do need a point guard and as time goes on keeping Shump to have him develop in place of getting a quality point seems like a bad move. If that deal is still there I think the Knicks should do it. The team looks so much better when Pablo is on the floor. Getting Lowry would be a huge improvement. I don't think the Raps wanted Felton. His contract is cap friendly and movable.

Linsanity??..We won 54 games last year and 13 in a row..

We won 54 because the 3 headed PG monster did an ok job. It was a 1 year thing. Kidd has moved on. Pablo got older. Felton showed his true blubber.

Curse of the Dragon. Unless we get lucky and get another very good PG then we are going to see this kind of play for years to come. We don't even have our own fucking pick this year which is going to be in the lottery. Yeah, I know stating the obvious.

Instead of Lin we get the Knucklehead brothers. Yippee.

better then an OK job. Kidd's play early in the season was vintage Kidd. He set the tone and set a style of play. we have not had that this year. At all, and everyone on this roster looks worse because of it.

I brought up Linsanity because Tyson Chandler looked good offensively. Jared Jeffries was getting buckets and looked like a real NBA player. Good guard play elevated the whole team. Bad guard play can bring down a whole team. We are seeing it now and we have need it before on this same team very recently pre-linsanity.

I undertsand that MSG didnt want to overpay for Lowry, but they were so worried about overpaying that they didnt consider their team needs.

I honestly believe that if Lin was still here last year, we would have gone a lot further.

^AGreed. It would not have been all Melo in the playoffs

Not sure. I would like to see him stay healthy in the spring and have a good playoff series first. It would have been nice to see him with Kidd last year.

Clyde says is best. Lin needs to learn how to fall or stop being so careless with his body. His total disregard with his body when attacking the rim or going for a loose ball is astonishing. Watching the Rockets feed this year and last, Matt Bullard and Drexler says the same thing. He just needs pick and choose when to attack, but then it takes away from his game....so I really don't know how he can do this...

Agree 100%. getting tired of "We won 54 games last year" Yes it was nice to actually have a winning season BUT we sucked in the playoffs where we had a golden oppurtunity, We almost blew a 3-0 series lead to a depleted celtic team and then we got abused but Indiana. Now this year we are a laughing stock with no draft picks in a much deeper draft
newyorknewyork @ 12/31/2013 1:35 PM
With Bledsoe and Dragic combining for 37pts 7rebs, 12ast 3stls. The Pheniox suns are bolstering an 19-11 record with nothing but role players. All there forwards can hit 3s providing space and Pumlee is putting up close to a double double because of all the space he gets to work with off the PNR and for rebounds.

Suns have play makers and shooters/spacing. We have some capable shooters but no playmakers.

Yes Virginia, it was a piece of meniscus that's probably sitting in a plastic bag in some NYC hospital dumpster somewhere.

Thats the same mentality that the Knicks had during the Isiah era...one more 1st round pick wont hurt. At some point, it has to stop.....

and they stopped too soon... I hear you but the Knicks desperately need and needed a good PG. If your going to trade a pick it would be for that I would think. Its not like Lowry was Billups... he's still got a lot of good years in the league
