The more players that can hit open shots--the less load Carmelo has.

I don't think anyone disagrees with the possibility of that but some just do not believe that the FO and coaches see it like that. Jimmer is shooting 49% from three this year albeit on a low volume but the guy has always been a shooter. He is like a smaller version of Randy Foye to me.

Jimmer wouldn't just be to try to improve this dumpster fire of a season. He's a 25 year old with potential that could possibly be signed to a very small deal. He's at least worth giving a shot for the rest of this season.

I agree with you I just don't think there is reason to get excited given the actions of the knicks FO and coach.

Yeah, me neither. And I don't think he'll sign up for this circus anyway. He'd really be better of with almost any other team in the league. Off the top of my head I think the Lakers make the most sense for the rest of this season. Their backcourt is in shambles so he'd be almost guaranteed playing time and he'd be playing in a system that would best showcase his talents.

Ny can offer him to start the rest of the year and that's something I guess. I wonder if Utah might make a claim but other than that the kings tried to trade him since he got there and no one pulled the trigger.

Yeah, but so could the Lakers. And the Bulls could guarantee him a bunch of time. Also, I wouldn't trust Woodson if I were him.

You would start Jimmer over Marshall a true PG? Also, is Heinrich playing two again with Butler out? I don't think Jimmer is a Thibs guy regardless though. I wouldn't quite trust him but his option may be thin. If NY was smart enough to target and get him it would give him a chance to show case himself with heavy minutes with a lot of spot up opportunities playing with Melo. MDA would be a nice choice though to get your value increased as a pg though.

I was thinking that LA could start him at the 2 and go with a dual PG backcourt which was very successful for us and Phoenix. As for the Bulls, if Nate Robinson could play successfully for Thibs I think anyone can and with all their injuries in the backcourt they could definitely use another healthy body.

Maybe, I think Nate is a better defender and was more of a facilitator coming over from Golden State. Nate's numbers resembled Ty Lawson's from points, ast rate, and etc. NY is probably not Jimmer's best choice and like I said before I doubt they would like him unfortunately. Woodson wants veterans to make a feeble attempt at the 8th spot.

Nate was definitely a better defender, he could be great at times when he really tried at it, and at least had enough playing time to show that he was a good distributor. But, and I say this as someone who loved watching Nate play, he tended to exacerbate his coaches and Thibodeau seems like a real no-nonsense kind of guy. And Kirk Heinrich has gotten plenty of playing time under Thibs and he's not exactly Gary Payton.

Well who has been on Gary Payton's level but Heinrich has been always known for his heady defensive play. His offense is not why he is in the league. He has gotten slower as the years have gone by but he competes on that end. You are right on Nate and why he was not brought back. I will say Thibs would be someone to get the best out of Jimmer on Defense though. Jimmer really needs to go to the Redick school and transform his body and game. He is not a bad distributor and can get into the lane some.

TheGame @ 2/25/2014 2:10 PM
I liked Jimmer in the draft and wanted the Knicks to get and I still like him. I think he is a better player than he has shown in Sactown. I think he would be perfect for this team as we just need someone who can hit an open shot and run the offense without turning the ball over (like Felton was prone to do). Knicks should definitely go after him if he clears waivers and tell him he has a shot at the starter position now that it looks like Felton might be spending time in jail.

when he plays his PER numbers suggest he's slightly above average and significantly better than what we have.

I agree that leadership is the biggest issue. problem is we have an infinite amount of issues

His career numbers also suggest that he's more effective playing fewer minutes.

Kerr also played in the triangle offense and Scottie Pippen, which limited his playmaking duties. Second, Kerr was a way better defender than Jimmer. Lastly, Kerr was a much better shooter than Fredette. The season is pretty much over so it can't hurt to bring him in. But anyone looking for Jimmer mania to strike here is looking at disappointment.

Jimmer is a young veteran talent at point guard. He has the ability to drive the ball and he can pass. He has his head up and doesn't give up his dribble. The kid is a top shooter in this world. The knicks need a point guard....this is it.

Give this kid minutes and he will show us something....it's worth a shot but Woodson must be fired and the intern coach must be directed to play the youth

Interesting point about bringing n someone to play young guys. Do you think Darrell walker fits in that spot? Also, stein speculating that jimmer would prefer to go to a non contender to get more minutes.

Rookie @ 2/25/2014 3:16 PM
seriously? another guard who can't defend his position? How is he an upgrade over THJ or JR?

that's fair but some of the guys the Knicks are playing suggest they shouldn't get any minutes. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Jimmer can walk on water. I'm just saying I'd rather give him a chance that what's on the roster

Yeah they could stick Walker there. It doesn't matter because the real coach will be brought here in the off season. The intern would be following orders

Because he can actually shoot open 3s with consistency. This would open up the middle for Melo and Amare.

so then our problem isn't defense, it's that we don't take enough 3 point shots? We already have to many one dimensional players on this team.

Unfortunately, we have more than 1 problem. Beggars can't be choosers. Unless you have another player that can actually help with the defect that we have then you select the best available option.

Ye- defense is a problem - but then so has our outside shooting. How many games do we finish a half with 2 of 10+ on 3pts? Face is, putting a good shooter can help. Felton, Prig, Shump have all shot horribly. THjr has hit some tough patches.

I'd offer him starting role and ask him and his agent if he can play 40+minutes a night!

why punish this guy by having him come here? it's cruel.

We'd be doing him a favor- after playing here, he will really enjoy leaving

Jimmer would be a fine pickup. To be fair -- I think he's better than I've been giving him credit for. He's more than decent off the dribble, he can handle it just fine, he can set up others and obviously the man's a very good shooter.

My only concern now with Clark and maybe Fredette as the two signings -- I question whether this is nothing more than a rental with each guy. Both guys have a certain amount of NBA experience under their belts and that may work against us here. If both manage to play well the rest of the way, I doubt very much either guy would agree to re-up on a vet minimum contract before the year's out, something I was kind of counting on if we would've gotten less experienced yet equally talented players to fill these two spots. I feel like if they play well they would in effect use the Knicks to score a decent contract, perhaps too rich for our blood eventually. Or, the other alternative would be to use part of the mid-level exception on both guys. But is that something we want to do? If we got Ebanks and Seth Curry though, DL guys that would be happy they're even in the show and happy they stepped into some better money, maybe we automatically sign each guy to a 2 or 3-yr deal right off the bat, insuring they will remain with the team for the foreseeable future, leaving the MLE open to sign additional help. Then again Ebanks has prior NBA experience with the Lakers -- he probably wouldn't accept something like that either.

Anyone feel what I'm saying? Definitely don't want to see another Chris Copeland here -- a guy who played well and bolted on us for more money than we could afford at the time. I'd try to safeguard against something like that happening again -- I feel even younger, less experienced players that could potentially supply the same things as Clark & Fredette might prove to be cheaper and better buys in the long run. I dunno -- maybe I'm looking at this wrong but think about it, suppose both play well -- what if Jimmer, the hometown kid, comes in super inspired and plays out of his mind and becomes a sensation, say something akin to Linsanity? How would we keep him then? Now if Seth Curry came in and showed he's got the right stuff -- after 10 or 20 days he might be willing to sign a 2 or 3-yr deal for the minimum. I mean the earlier the better---on our end, hypothetically speaking if we really believed in him as a player, maybe we sign him to a 2 or 3-yr deal right off the bat, before he even plays a game. Jimmer's not accepting those terms though. That's the difference. Just thinking in terms of being capped out and adding every ounce of talent we possibly can given that situation.

I can't see these moves being made with making the playoffs still in mind. I think that ship sailed....So if these are 'take a flyer on some young talent' type moves, why even bother if it's nothing more than a rental if they play well?? Any thoughts?
