Knicks to sign Shannon Brown and Earl Clark to 10-day contracts on Thursday. That way, they maximize their 10 days and get them for 7 games

Slick move by Mills

Wow. Just brutal. Jimmer Fredette is just sitting out there and we pick up 2 scrubs. Story of the Knicks.

I like the Clark pick up. Not sure about Brown. Either the Knicks are going to give Murry some minutes or maybe they are going to let someone else go.
callmened @ 2/25/2014 10:00 PM
no no...shannon brown and earl clark are nice role players. fredette is fun to watch but plays no defense. At this point tho, id take fredette for the entertainment
Vmart @ 2/25/2014 10:10 PM
I'm just baffled by the Knicks front office. I don't know what to say anymore.
gunsnewing @ 2/25/2014 10:12 PM
Can he play PG?
RonRon @ 2/25/2014 10:15 PM
Not the Brown I was hoping for, wanted to see what CAA, Bobby Brown, could do in addition to a LEGIT SF/PF....
Have a feeling we will pull a Gadzuric if we can, using an guaranteed contract for the summer to make a trade
We would need to be under the tax threshold to do so, though I am not sure if we can do it if Melo opts out while we still hold his bird rights
Hopefully using the 3m in cash to purchase buy a pick and 3m in cash again late in July for the rights of another player....

If we look to sign a veteran, the more salary we can take back....

Dantay Jones is an undersized tough G/F
Shannon Brown was more of a scorer but is approaching 30, haven't seen him recently but he could be in huge decline just like Q Richardson declined much at about 30

I would like to at least sign 1-2 players that we can POSSIBLY continued development long term with TEAM OPTIONS for 2nd year
Players like James Johnson would have been nice when he was available while we had Chris Smith

Cole Alrich probably is next is line, especially with AB and Kmart returning *with right after Alrich...with Kmart we probably should look to cut if we CONTINUE TO LOSE*
Not sure if Murry is part of our future plans even though he probably is our BEST defender, he gets NO PT even when we NEED DEFENSE at times to finish games, Felton/Pablo would still play
That is why Woodson is Woodson, he chose a broken Bibby/Hinrich, even Jamal Crawford at PG over the development of Teague, some things won't change.....

Jimmer is not a free agent yet and brown is only on a 10 day

Jimmer isn't coming here. That is water under the bridge.

Jimmer Sanity

Jimmer Fever

I honestly think Melo did NOT request to trade players like Iman/Chandler because he doesn't want any of them to leave NYK since he is deciding to leave himself
Melo has a conscience for some of his teammates, he doesn't want them to be moved if he isn't sure if he is even staying

There is a good chance that he joins the Heat if Lebron, Wade, Bosh, are all willing to take less, and continue to challenge the Pacer's together
Although Lebron could probably make many teams instinct title contender by himself, especially some teams with cap room, young players, draft picks this year and future, and cap room

Those Pacer's will be a tough team for the next decade though barring injury to Hibbert and George, with the addition of Turner, and 3m MLE to spend this summer

9-10 man rotation
===================

George Hill
Lance
George
West
Hibbert

Watson
Turner *wonder if they would offer Turner and some future picks for Bledsoe, that would really speed up their team, with the ability to play uptempo pace and/ half court
Scola *bit older, personally think Plumlee is better but he is still a solid vet*
Mahimi *under rated backup*

X factor = Bynum if he ever regains form, he has a Championship UNSELFISH TEAM to push/motivate him, with Hibbert to push each other in practice
Lavoy Allen *pretty solid 3rd string*

Copeland *if they ever want to use a stretch 4/5, going small*

Solomon Jones (probably next year will contribute but they are already so damn deep)

Yeah, there wasn't much out there. At least Shannon Brown could play decent D at one point in his career. Maybe he still has it in him.
RonRon @ 2/25/2014 10:55 PM
The Suns highlights of Brown seem impressive but I haven't see him this year and 1 year could mean a lot in terms of physical abilities
In the end, I think we need an upgrade in the PG department, both on OFF and DEFENSE
We need a PG that is capable of penetrating in the paint and finishing, with the ability to facilitate and hit a wide open 3pter
Speed/quickness, simply we need someone to PUSH THE TEMPO, handle the ball, and INITIATE THE OFFENSE because penetration opens things up for other players, especially shooters
We don't have any of that, though if we do add a PG these guys could possibly help

Nothing against Melo, he is a good scorer but the way he plays, his team mates are unable to play of his abilities to score with consistency
IF Melo is going to camp outside for 3pt shots, we need someone to attack the paint, with another F that can go both inside and out, something Clark could bring....

In no specific order,

Cole Alrich

Kmart though he probably is our best defender at the PF/C and best shot blocker (depending on injury and our ever game status)
Murry, doesn't seem like Woodson will ever give him a chance, despite being our best defender at both the PG and some SG, even when it is only 1 play left on DEF....

Finestrg @ 2/25/2014 11:09 PM
I just don't get this signing at all. It's in line with Dhantay Jones -- Jones and S. Brown are nice players but they're vets. What is the point in bringing in another vet into this situation at this stage? If we had something to play for, great, the more the merrier. What is this team primed to win at this point? Nothing...Come on man, this ain't last year. This front office is in complete denial -- different team, esp. now, and the goals need to change accordingly...At least Jimmer can handle and facilitate somewhat. I mean Felton gets locked up, Beno's out -- don't we need help at the point? Fredette would've been a better choice...Brown's a straight up 2G (and an undersized one at that). Where's he playing? Again, don't get me wrong--I like Brown, he can play, but he's a bad fit here. Not even like they'd have to go small with Brown at the 2 and Hardaway at the 3 -- they just brought in Earl Clark. Much rather see a Chandler/Melo/Clark frontcourt over more '2G out of position at the 3' stuff (THJ, JR?) in order to get Brown any significant time. How do you make 2 moves to reinforce the team and then still have guys playing out of position? Who does that?? And then you mean to tell me Shannon Brown gets time at the 2 over Timmy, our one bright spot? Bad fit, sorry. Jeez, typical Knicks, man. LOL. What's the thought process behind this signing??

CrushAlot @ 2/25/2014 11:18 PM
Hoping that because both guys are on ten day deals the Knicks drop brown if fredette becomes available. It certainly sounds like his family would like him back home. Also, bobby brown is in china for 12 more days. Maybe the Knicks are using Shannon to hold down the fort while shump is out and b brown becomes available.

I agree, with your same theory we probably should have moved any possible players in
to get 2014 picks, young players, shorter contracts/expirings, solid role players

Melo

Chandler and/or AB
Iman

while unloading Felton

or pulling a major starphuq with Philly for

Turner
Thad Young
Spencer Hawes
Possibly their Tony Wroten if possible

2014 2nd pick

for

2015 expirings, throw in/expirings, in AB/Chandler, possibly with OKC in a team trade

1st rounders
2018, 2020, 2022

2nd rounders
2018, 2019, 2020

with the rest of our possible draft picks

We chose to continue to chase the nearly impossible instead though, for a chance at the 7th/8th seed

Yeah maybe. I wonder if Shannon knows that. I wonder what line of crap they're telling him....LMAO, we're such a hot mess I can't take it anymore..

knicks are 21-36.

We have NO LEGIT SF/PF regardless, lets see how we play with one rather than playing a SG at SF, 2 PG's (Felton/Pablo) that cannot defend either PG or SG, or playing Melo at SF
That is just way too many weakness's inviting our opponents to force any mismatch on top of the constant SWITCHING in Woodson's flawed philosophy

with Melo/STAT/Chandler, this forces to camp outside the 3pt line and chuck shot after shot, without the ability to post up and/penetrate off the dribble, and his inability to defend SF's, especially SF's that can shoot and beat him off the dribble

The BIG 3 is just not a good fit, we have tried many times with little success...
STAT/Chandler are not good rebounders, defenders, or shot blockers, while Kmart actually was a decent shot blocker/defender and moved well without the ball
Kmart also could pass the alley hoop to Melo for the high/low post

DK, I agree we should have made trade at the deadline but we didn't

If Clark does well and we can sign him to a 2 year deal, getting his early bird rights in 2015, we can still trade Iman for Perry Jones and their late 1st rounder to draft either a PG or C

I agree with Briggs that these are 2 players that we should keep a close eye on, looking to acquire both if possible, and DEVELOP THEM *FIRING or DEMOTING WOODSON IS NEEDED FOR THIS TO HAPPEN effectively*

Deonte Burton
6-1
190
PG
Nevada

or

Jordan Bachynski
7-2
248
C
Arizona St.
Sr.

While we still would have the 3m MLE to use on maybe a PG or maybe Trevor Ariza

PG's include at 3m MLE
==========================

Sessions
Collison
Bayless
Vasquez (RFA)
Mo Williams
Brian Roberts (RFA)

Vet Min
=============

Patty Mills
Bobby Brown
Kendall Marshall

Ridnour (not sure if he is done)
JJ Barea (still can penetrate and score, on top of staying in front of his man in limited minutes)

SF/PF
=========
James Johnson *I have been big on him for a couple years now, he looks like he has found a home in Memphis though they might not look to pay him

2014 minor Trades

Possibly trading for Pierre Jackson with 3m cash
=========================================================
a player like Shannon Brown with 2nd year NON guaranteed

I think WHEN THE DRAFT IS OVER, we can spend another 3m in cash, to purchase the rights of another player

Isiah Thomas??? If the price is right or Greviez Vasquez if Lowry is kept in Toronto

I have a feeling we will try to do
2 unprotected 1st round picks in 2018 and 2020 AB for Rhondo *which I don't think would FIT with Melo and the lack of talent we have to compliment each other

Continue the development of Earl Clark, add James Johnson, maybe Ebanks, and some of the above players, in addition to hiring a competent development coach to also further the development of Jeremy Tyler, putting him in a work out program to lose weight/gain mobility/athleticism at PF/C, he has to come in at much better shape, we do have Tyler's bird rights afterall

i vote for vasquez or patty mills. im all about getting younger cheap-under-the-radar talent. ive always liked perry jones. I like both clark (hope he stays) and shannon brown

Ugh.. Thought it was Bobby Brown. Just go get some new PGs already! Beno is gone, replace him. Felton should be and probably will be demoted depending on his verdict. That leaves Prigo and Toure Murry. Play that fool already. Shannon is NOT a PG. If we roll with these dudes, our offense will rely waaaay too heavily on Melo and JR to create and facilitate.

What about that Lester Hudson? I saw reports of us showing interest. Can anyone drop some knowledge on him?
