Knicks · If Stat and Melo opted out of their contracts, could we restructure Stat and Melo's new contract to have cap to sign a star? (page 3)

The team is showing now that we have the players to make the playoffs. The team just needs to start the season with a better focus, with better focus, and with a better understanding of what the hell they are doing on defense. This current team should be a 45-50 win team. THe Kincks need to convince Melo to not opt-out and take the big pay day, and then try to sign three max like players like Miami did in 2015.

If 2015 is TRULY the year, then why so much the concern of making the playoffs next year.. we all know or should know this team is not a contender, no way,no how. so next year should be a true rebuild year, get picks, move these overpriced allstar and former allstar players, and evaluate any young talent we have.. if we suck, ok, we own our own pick.....

I believe that Stat have an opt out of his contract and if that is so. Can we restructure Stat to make 10 million the next 2 seasons and 5 million the third season. Melo can take a low ball figure next season and slowly build to top dollar after that. Could we then get a top player for next season and the following season?

Papabear, this scenario does not even make sense. Amare set to make $23M next year. Why would he opt out to make $25M over the next 3?

exactly and considering his health history, there is no way he does that...

No you are wrong. OK we pay him his 23 million for next season. He wants to retire a Knick. So we pay him the players minimum the following year and he takes it and a few million the next year. We both are gambling. Who is going to pay Amare big money after this contract is up with us? Nobody.

Amare: I want to retire a Knick
Dolan: How about you play for the vet minimum
Amare: I no longer want to retire a Knick

If Stat and Melo opted out I would basically let both go and not resign them.
