Knicks · How much Kerr gets (page 1)

Vmart @ 5/11/2014 10:33 AM
Is going to determine if this is a money grab by Phil Jackson and his friends. I don't think Kerr deserves anything more that Jason Kidd matter of fact he should get less. If Phil drops stupid money on Kerr and even if it doesn't count against the cap I'm not for it. As president you have to show your skills not only in player evaluation but also what an individual is worth to the business. Kerr is not worth more than Kidd or what ever mark Jackson got.

Kerr wants anywhere from 24-30 million 5 year deal. Phil should now start recruiting Hoiberg who has coaching experience and familiar with the Phil Jackson system. To me this is Kerr saying that he wants GS.

nyk4ever @ 5/11/2014 10:51 AM
why does everyone care about how much money he makes? the most important thing about the speculated agreement is that it's 5 years long aka the same length has phils deal. cohesion amongst the front-office is the most important aspect of this deal, not money.

This teams value has gone up a billion dollars in the last 3-4 years or so. Why wouldn't any of these guys ask for good $$$$$. NY is the most expensive place to live. How much would it cost Kerr to buy a nice place in Manhattan--7-10mm. On top of which he has a coast-coast relationship w his family. If Phil is getting 12 why not ask for 6? What do you expect him to ask for ??

BRIGGS - Do you want a commuter coach?

Look Spoelstra get 3 mill a year and he has won championships as a coach. Kidd has a 4 year 10.5 mill deal I believe. GS is as expensive as NY. 5 year 15 mill is the top I go for coaching in NY.

BasketballJones @ 5/11/2014 11:47 AM
Whatever.

This is hilarious, Misterearl. Do you really think If Kerr is hired he will be missing games and practices because he is traveling back and forth?

I know you are clamoring for Mark Jackson but no need to invent reasons why Kerr may not be a good coach.

misterearl @ 5/11/2014 12:00 PM
H1AND1 - you never answered the question. Do you prefer a head coach with family ties to another city, or one who is based in New York year round?

Just curious

Who cares, are we hiring coaches based on where they were based out of previously? Mjackson based out of west coast too, right?

Reportedly one of the issues with the warriors was that MJax didn't want to relocate to the bay area.

I left my heart in San Francisco

martin - Not where the coach is based out of. Where he leaves his heart.

And making church videos on company time, along with openly going against the views of the management.
misterearl @ 5/11/2014 12:40 PM
knickscity - church videos on company time?

What was Mark Jackson's relationship with his players again?

Did they win more basketball games every year of his tenure, or were they sliding backwards?

Church videos? is that the best you got?

Church videos? How silly is that?

if these guys wanna coach or get the chance to, they will go to what many might consider places they wouldnt live. jackson went to gs, were gs fans crying cuz hes from ny (i have no idea if they did)? jackson seemed like he wanted to stay, is that a slight to ny by him (i dont think it is)?

Nalod @ 5/11/2014 12:55 PM
He asked for that amount.

Lets see if he gets it.

He is being courted by knicks, its not like we posting this in the want ad's.

When you court a guy you pay. Woodson got like 3.5mil and Dolan told him to fire his agent! Woodson fired his friend.

Price paid is what you value it. You want him, gotta pay. If you don't, then why bother.

Ask the team, that was part of the rumors.

"Instead this was an off the court decision. Everything about Jackson was under scrutiny, which includes his very public persona as a religious man. It was probably not at the top of the list, but was probably on the list. I don’t know if Jackson’s strong, strong religious beliefs alienated anyone in the building. I’ve heard that the team wasn’t happy that he made it a priority to get back to his LA-based church to preach as often as possible. I’ve heard that he occasionally referred to individuals he didn’t like as “the devil.” And I found it weird to be sitting in a press conference next to a young woman who kept trying to get Jackson’s attention by calling him “pastor.”

Apparently winning didnt matter or maybe the management felt he didnt win them enough and wasnt 100% vested in the warriors.

Perhaps all coaches should be asked where their heart is before accepting a position. How do you propose testing that? Is NYC not lovable itself to find its own mark?

larry brown, nyc... won natty in ncaa, nba title. crap happens when you work for the knicks, even for home grown guys. is kerr going to melt from media heat? given his history of dealing with some really bad stuff in public, i would say no.

I could care less where the coach is from. He could be from Mars for all I care. Doesn't matter to me and since when is being from a certain city give you any leg up coaching?

Why was he fired after accomplishing all that? Doesn't getting canned immediately after so much success beg the question of exactly what his short comings were?

I am biased but Jackson is apparently fervently religious and yet still kept a mistress something certainly against gods word in any Christian denomination. No thanks to phoney hypocrite preacher types. Just those facts along disqualifies Jackson for me.
