The beautiful thing is that we have the Westchester Knicks now!!! Before we didn't really have a way of stashing young talent that might not be ready. If they need to send Murry down at least they can have a chance to hold on to him in some way. I think Phil actually likes Murry for his defense. Don't be so quick to assume he's gone.

There was interest from other teams, Phil might be able to use that to his advantage. I like Murry but wouldn't mind if he is traded to upgrade the roster.

Agree. Also, I don't see the upside in Murry that some do.

The talent is there and his defense with Shump was the best we had all year last year. He may not end up being anything, but a defensive reserve but every team can use players like that on the bench. If he needs more development so be it. He's cheap and can play in Westchester.

CrushAlot wrote:Yeah. So glad Tyson is gone. Calderon is a huge upgrade over Felton and Calderon and bargs have great chemistry.

Anything that makes Bargs a fit chemistry wise is a good thing. It was a bigger problem than his team D. I believe Bargs would take a lot less heat if he got into the flow of the offense better.

nixluva @ 6/25/2014 6:02 PM
I actually like Shane Larkin and was hoping we could get him in the draft. The kid has all kinds of talent!!!

We usually are on the other end of these deals..This was a steal!

Also.. ESPN is reporting the deal is done..
http://theknickswall.com/2014/06/25/tyso...

And we got Wayne Ellington which is an expiring contract we might parlay into something more later on...

Wouldn't call it a steal since we're being saddled with $21M in salary, but we didn't get violated either. The pick #34 is nice tho.
Well to be honest its not like calderon is making amare/bargnani money. Even with his cap hti we will have plenty of cap space especially if melo isnt here
yellowboy90 @ 6/25/2014 6:05 PM
now can Phil get rid of Amar'e or Bargs?

Yeah, but we only have to endure another year of Stat and Bargs. Taking onnJose's deal makes even less sense if Melo isn't here. Prigs is probably pissed because he has to go back to being Calderon's backup lol

Also, 2015 isn't looking like it is going to be the big year to sign marquee free agents anymore. Moving on from Felton and flu is huge. Getting back what the Knicks are is even better.

yellowboy90 @ 6/25/2014 6:11 PM
Would a win now team take Calderon? There are several teams that could use him as a back up pg. The Blazers, Clippers, Indy, Miami, Houston, and etc.

We were going to move on from Tyson's deal regardless and we could've bought Felton out or dealt his expiring next year. Calderon is contributor for a contending team, not one that's transitioning. His defense is just as bad as Felton's and he's not going to be a productive starter two years from now, when we'll really need him. I'm hopeful Larkin and pick #34 turn out to be something.

Iman is probably gone too but I see why they would keep him with Calderon because Phil and Fisher is said to really love Jose.

nixluva @ 6/25/2014 6:19 PM
People are really too hung up on Calderon. This is not the way to look at this deal. Larkin, Ellington, Pick #34 and #51 is how you look at this deal. Prospects to develop and see if you can find a diamond in the rough. Youth for the future. Changing the culture here and moving out what wasn't working. At least Calderon is a savvy vet who we know can run an offense and help teach younger guards.

I don't think any of those teams has the luxury of paying $7M per to a backup.
gunsnewing @ 6/25/2014 6:21 PM
Yea and Calderon can always be moved if a player worth getting crops up after 2015. $7m is not the end of the world

No but as an expiring down the road he will. We just got someone to take Raymond James Felton off our hands for crying out loud. Maybe Calderon is packaged with Bargnani!

I have faith in phil. i mean this deal alone was one of the better deals. I mean Tyson really killed his value last year and felton was probably teh worst starting pg in the nba hell there were many backups who were better. I dont love calderon but like i said he is better than felton and its not like he makes 10-15 million. Getting larkin and 2 2nd round picks especially in this deep draft class helps. Maybe he finds a taker for calderon down teh road

So no one was going to take Felton's 2 year-$16 million deal but people are going to flock to acquire a 33 year old due $22 million over 3 years? I'll believe it when I see it.

The dude shot 46% and 45% from three over the last two years. That will always make him attractive. He is the pg version of Kyle Korver right now but he can handle the ball.

Does this trade makes sense if Melo walks? If it doesn't, I'd find it hard to consider it "one of the better deals" we could've made.

nyvector16 @ 6/25/2014 6:29 PM
The only negative of the deal for the Knicks is the extra salary...
Let's break that down...

Player - Next Season - 15/16 Season - 16/17 Season
Felton - 4.3M - 4.5M -
Calderon - 7M - 7.4M - 7.7M

Difference: 2.7M - 2.9M - 7.7M

This amount to a total of 13.3M total....
And we got a 2013 1st rounder, TWO 2014 2nd rounders , and a big upgrade at Point guard

I don't see how this was anything but a steal....

Yes, Calderon WAS a good player to have around but are you really going to want him at $7.8 million when he is 36 years old and no franchise player around?
