Tyson and Melo not that close according to Hahn. Also, Melo knew about Tyson being traded to Dallas several weeks before the trade happened. Tyson didn't know until the trade went down.
GustavBahler @ 6/27/2014 2:27 PM
Scratch Dallas if its true. Interesting how this info got out just before Melo makes his FA tour...
yellowboy90 @ 6/27/2014 2:52 PM
Tyson said he would recruit Melo to Dallas. People saying they were close. Who
TeamBall @ 6/27/2014 2:55 PM
Melos really considering the Mavs? I thought that was just a rumor

Hahn said Melo and Tyson weren't close. I know I read the other day in an article (Berman?) that Melo told Phil Tyson was the teammate he trusted the most.
fishmike @ 6/27/2014 3:27 PM
the more interest and teams around the league for Melo the better he looks for staying. Starting to see whats happening here.

5 years and better money. always follow the money. also, after he resigns, he becomes our asset to keep or trade. so, it's a win win for both Melo and the Knicks

The one thing that rings out loudest from Phil's comments is, there is no S&T. Either he walks or he resigns.

I read it in the Herring article. I never got the feel they were close but trust and friendship is two different things. Their lockers where side by side and Tyson did say the Olympics help them get more familiar with each other but who knows.

I dont hear that at all? Why would Phil go that route? Phil will do whats best for the Knicks

I didnt hear that either. I read Phil didnt want to comment on the possibility of a S & T, but I am sure he would do that if it helps the team getting back some talent.

Rookie @ 6/27/2014 4:23 PM
Expiring talent? how does that help us going forward. No doubt Phil will do what's best for the team. Who even questioned that? Boozer, Gibson will take roster spots and minutes. Are they the future? Harden, yeah he's good but again is he the best guy for the team, or would patience bring the right fit talent/salary/chemistry and dollar wise.

Phil seems well versed in the order of things. First, resign Melo but let him go about his business of exploring his options. At the end of that, if he wants to leave he's ok with that also. I have seen nothing regarding Phil and other teams regarding any possible S&T's.

Phil has set his plan in motion and a S&T is not plan A or B. I'm sure he will look at that if Anthony's people present one, but in the end Phil will do what's best for the team.

I like that someone is actually being tough with these stars. It would be nice to see these guys not be able to pout their way onto their new trade destination choice.

It was obvious melo and Tyson aren't friends. Remember how Tyson bittcht during the pacers series about not enough passing. Meanwhile he was getting abused on both ends of the floor by the immortal Roy hibbert.

Melo knows Tyson sucks. Melo knows Tyson is a know it all headcAase.

Tyson is dreaming, most of his negative comments where for melo and woody, now is talking about recruiting melo. you didn't come close to being a contender with "fat boy" felton and "always injured" tyson now your going to up root your family to play with those two and del harris..

The best thing dallas had was jose and dirk.

I hope Tyson ends up being a major bust for them and the excuses start all over again. Give them a taste of what we've had to deal with for the last couple of seasons.

I agree. Tyson was a quitter and a problem in the locker room. It is amazing that he is still seen as a guy with tremendous character and a stabilizer for a locker room. My guess is he has a pretty good year as it is the final year of his contract. I don't think he will miss six games down the stretch for mysterious personal reasons.

considering the clusterfrick of the last 3 seasons i am sure he is relieved to have been traded. if he comes back it will be because he is on a better team with healthy leadership and real coaching.

I think he showed some character flaws last year and in the playoffs the previous season. The Knicks desperately needed a high character vet in their locker room last year. Tyson was supposed to be that guy. I think he has a good year but it is more because he wants another big contract. Also, that roster has vet leadership so he can just play a role and won't be relied onto be what he wasn't in NY.

</well that was easy>
