Knicks · Pau over Marc?? (page 1)

TPercy @ 6/28/2014 5:17 PM
Why are we chasing Pau Gasol instead of his brother Marc?
Would much rather have Marc Gasol over him, he is a great defender, has great size, younger and can contribute greatly on the offensive end.
I hope I am not the only one that feels this way
ToddTT @ 6/28/2014 5:18 PM
I'll take two, please.

Heck yeah, depending on the salary. Pau might be the incentive Marc needs to leave Memphis and come here.
TheSage @ 6/28/2014 5:24 PM
But Phil has a long relationship with Pau

A team with him...Marc Amare Bargs and Melo.....no way we could afford that

Marc is a free agent next year, when Barge and Amare are off the books.

Oh yeah I forgot about that, my fault.

Why not both , get Pau on a very Knick friendly cap number this summer and give his brother the opportunity to join him in 2015.

Memphis should go after Pau this summer

Absolutely. They instead kept Zach Randolph. That organization sucks but Marc loves memphis. You would think they would try to get his bro in there. At the same time Zach has made a home in Memphis and does great work in the community so they say so it was probably a tough decision.

Pau said awhile ago he would be willing to take less--hes already made considerable $$ in his career and he's an UFA right now. Marc Gasol is presently under contract

It would stand to reason that obtaining Pau would give us a little better chance of signing Marc in 2015. Personally im a big fan of Marc and his passing ability would be fantastic for the triangle. The only thing is Im doubting Pau comes here unless Melo is on the team.
Knixkik @ 6/29/2014 10:16 AM
Should have a shot at both. Add Pau this summer and just make sure there is enough cap space for Marc next summer. Then you can start them next to each other but over half of pau's mins be at the center. You will essentially always have a gasol on the floor.

But if Melo's here and we still have a .450 team, is that really going to look appealing?

Good question and im not sure, depends how much Marc wants to play with Pau. Marc and Melo is still not enough the team would still need a young guard that is better than Melo to make it work and the financial flexibility wouldnt be there to add that player. Basically we would have to hope we land that player in the 2015 Draft which is less likely if Melo is on the team.

But if Melo is here and the Knicks are a .600 team, wouldn't that look appealing? These what of games are fun.

Marc is my second favorite big in the league after Noah. I think if you put him on a team with Melo, Calderon and others the Knicks win 50 games annually for a long time. Not sure where Melo suddenly gets pushed into being the third man. The Knicks probably are not acquiring that level talent but I don't think they need to.

Yeah, I can't see that happening. Regardless, I don't think Melo/Marc is a championship foundation anyway. Now, if they were each coming here for around $15 mil per year, that would be great but I'm expecting both these guys to want $20+ per year
SupremeCommander @ 6/29/2014 1:03 PM
Pau ain't what he was - but he will help. For reference see: Kidd, Jason.

A team with Melo , and the Gasols is a good team but not a championship team. Even with a group of good role players surrounding them.

Nalod @ 6/29/2014 1:11 PM
Pau did 17 and 8 last season.

He ain't what he was, but that ain't bad. Question is can he stay on the floor???
