Knicks · Are we trying to get Lebron? (page 1)

I know we have a thread dedicated to the Amare trade rumors but I wanted to focus on Lebron in that regard....

The big speculation is Miami is trying to figure out how they are going to retool the team around the Big 3....but Hoouston wants Bosh in a big way. In reality he should go to Houston and revitalize his career with a fantastic supporting cast in its own right.

That leaves the Melo to Miami situation to start a new Big 3...that's cool but that would make Melo out to be a villain. Miami will look like a toy team just looking for the next star to fill in the blanks on their soulless franchise/fanbase.

Miami is Wade's team so that dude isn't going anywhere. They have quite a few young guys coming up through the draft and overseas, plus they need to establish Beasley would is not a slouch. They could actually win next year if they build around Wade and the youth.

This leaves Lebron....I think Lebron doesn't give a fuck about a city. He wants to win rings. He wants to be immortal and stand alone amongst the greatest players. I think he realizes he has a tainted run in Miami. A lot of fans, media and legends of the game are always talking about how that decision went down....The Clevland owner kinda burned that bridge to go back home, but he could go back and re-establish what he started there with a new batch of youngins....

Then there is NY....If he wins here....even if its just once, he would be immortalized and stand alone amongst the greatest. He's always wanted to play with Melo....Melo needs a guy like Lebron and Lebron needs a guy like Melo....one guy does it all and the other guy in cold blooded when it comes to scoring the ball...

Phil contacted Philly about dumping Amare....if they did, then Bargs has got to be available for the same reason.

There has to be a big reason for the hold up on making decisions....I think if Phil can dump Amare and Bargs somewhere....I think this shit is going down.

WTF do you all think about that!!!

CrushAlot @ 7/8/2014 7:30 PM
I think if Hardaway is included in a deal to move Stat that there is a good chance LBJ is in play for the Knicks.
franco12 @ 7/8/2014 7:32 PM
we may think we can get Lebron - but I think Lebron either wants to go back to Cleveland, or he wants to be back in Miami, but without Bosh.
Knicks22 @ 7/8/2014 7:35 PM
would love to see LBJ in NY, but, take issue with your view that LBJ and Melo "made for each other".

LBJ plays amazing Defense, distributes, looks for the open man, and, of course, scores - with remarkable efficiency. Melo scores - but inefficiently.

Melo couldn't or wouldn't adapt to MDA and a healhty Amare - not comparing LBJ to Amare, but, what gives anyone confidence Melo will adapt to any team oriented system?

Nalod @ 7/8/2014 7:47 PM
Lebron in Cleveland could be for the rest of his career and could put up 4 chips in 6 years there.

Could, not saying "Will".

Blatt Could be a rising star. I said Could, not "Is".

Lebron in NY would be special but is it for 4 years, or just two?

Part of me wants him here big time, but part of me thinks if he is here for a bit, then settles somewhere again its a mercenary thing.

He can ball. We talking legacy.

Phil Jackson....

Lebron's problem is he does everything and everything is focused on him. Last 2 years the role players hit the shots he created for them...against san Antonio everyone looked bored and lost looking for Lebron to save them....even Bosh and Wade were looking that way.

Melo's problem is he has to work too hard to get his shot. Woodson straight up over used him wit the iso basketball. Yet Melo still put up big numbers. Some of his best, in spite of the heavy usage and pressure to score 30 everynight just to be competitive.

The triangle allows Lebron and Melo to get easy baskets and readily see their options in the offense. Lebron wont have to go 1 on 5 looking for a teammate to pass to when he doesn't have the shot....Melo won't have to force every shot trying to shoot his team back into games....if they buy in they could possibly extend their careers playing the triangle.

RonRon @ 7/8/2014 7:56 PM
I would welcome Lebron, more importantly, trying to think of a way to continue to LURE Durant with Lebron/CA, and Fisher as bait
Durant and Lebron would be utilized just as Jordan/Pippen were utilized, they both have supreme athleticism/length/versatility/and skill sets

Lebron wants more rings and Durant wants a ring, unlike CA Durant's age allows him to play in a high level for another decade
Lebron is getting slower, he needs someone that can push him and that he can defer to, I think Durant is the PERFECT FIT with The Triangle System
He is utilizing is STRENGTH/SIZE much more than his speed/quickness/athleticism that he once had all of to choose to use

Durant and Lebron, the duo would command a ransom from Nike, to play in NYK with increased revenue due to their impact TOGETHER, FIT, and the potential of a dynasty
With Lebron earlier stating he wanted a MAX salary for 1, maybe 2 year's, I believe he wants to team up with Durant who would be a UFA in 2016-17

Will Durant command his way out of OKC to NYC, similar to how CA did with Denver/NYK?
Getting back CA, some draft picks, and some other players/asset's just might do the trick if so...

With Philly, I think they need some SHOOTER's, with MCW/NOEL/EMBID to be the futures of the franchise in addition to likely high draft picks in the next 1-2 years, with many draft rights of other players as well

In addition to our 2018/2020 1st rounders, 2018 and after 2nd round picks, A combination of talents/expiring contracts

expirings in

STAT
AB
Jeremy Tyler

JR *likely opting out*

and

some of our G/F's of

Tim Hardaway JR
Iman

Cleanthony Early/Thiannis

for

a large trade exemption to target Lebron or even a combination of contracts in UFA Lance Stephenson *perfect fit to Calderon*, Trevor Ariza, Gasol, Shawn Marion
Thad Young *who could opt in, instead of out of his 10m contract*
Tony Wroten and his ability to penetrate/finish

while utilizing their cap space in 2015-16 or 2016-17, with their core of YOUNG GUN's on ROOKIE CONTRACTS to attract players to go to Philly as they continue to develop and build chemistry/system that will fit

NardDogNation @ 7/8/2014 8:20 PM
Wouldn't Phil have to dump JR, Calderon, Dalembert as well to acquire enough cap space for LeBron? What's the likelihood of all that going down?

I believe that more than anything. He turned us down once when we brought in a healthy Stat. Making moves, for the sake of LeBron, wouldn't be responsible for us.

Why? Amare is a max contract if we can dump him we can sign Lebron as long as Melo doesn't ask for the max which he doesn't deserve anyway.

...because we're not going to get MIA to agree to a sign and trade, which means that we'll need $23 million in cap space to make that happen. With Melo's cap hold (if I'm not mistaken), we're still $18 or so million above the cap, which means that we'd have to clear $41 million in order to have the money to sign LeBron outright. We'd be the first team in NBA history to clear that much salary in such a short period of time.

Moonangie @ 7/8/2014 8:45 PM
THjr should not be sent anywhere unless we have a firm commitment from Lebron. If we don't have that, let's not waste THjr just to dump Stat now. We can trade him solo at the deadline or just let him expire and resign him for $2-4mil per year, two years with team option for third.

So Melo still has a cap hold despite being an unrestricted free agent?

No rush to get rid of Tim. I was responding to the topic, Are The Knicks Trying to get LeBron. What I have read is the Knicks proposed an amare Shump trade and the 76ers asked for Tim. Knicks said no. If that changes I think it is because the knicks think they have a shot at LeBron.

I'm pretty sure it's the only way we could retain his Bird Right's, which allow us to exceed the cap/luxury tax to keep him. Without it, all we'd have to offer him is the MLE.

VDesai @ 7/8/2014 9:01 PM
Doesn't seem Lebron is a realistic possibility. I think if he wanted to play in NYC and/or with Melo he would've came here in 2010 and he could've played with Amare and Melo would've forced his way here potentially.

However I think the reason why Melo hasn't signed his max offer is that he's waiting to see whom he can recruit to come play here. That probably hinges on Lebron's decision to see what pieces move where. IF he ultimately can't bring anyone in than he probably takes the max.

Question is Melo takes slightly less, and Amare and Shump are traded, can we sign Pau and maybe Stevenson? I think then you have a viable lineup where Melo plays PF.

If we include Larkin and some of what we got in the Chandler deal, do you think we'd be able to make the deal and/or keep Shumpert out of it?

I don't know. It is hard to know what the sixers doing.
