Knicks · SAS- Melo back for the Max (page 1)

On ESPN radio now...

Melo believes in Phil and the money.

Details being discussed... seems like a no trade clause is going to be included.

Knicksfan @ 7/12/2014 1:41 PM
Lol if for the max and a no trade clause, then Ill be happy to question this move from Phil. But until official, its just another rumor.
Uptown @ 7/12/2014 1:44 PM
Once Bosh signed for $118 mil, I knew there was no way Melo would sign for less....

Does not sound like a rumor... maybe the yearly numbers are moved around- Anthony might have been fearful of Phil dealing him. Maybe we get a team option, but I doubt it.

Smith spoke with some very strong certitude on this one.

League source confirms to @CBSSports that Carmelo Anthony has decided to re-sign with the Knicks. "Melo is staying," the person said.

It's all over social media...Seems as if its a done deal....

I've said all along that i'm not worried about Melo getting the Max. We're not going to be able to get another player at his level. They will all be lesser players in terms of money. We'll have enough money to add another near max player next year even with Melo at full Max. If Melo adjusts his contract to take a slight bit less that would help, but it's not the end of the world.

Representatives for Carmelo Anthony are presently in negotiations on a contract that will bring him back to the New York Knicks, sources tell ESPN's Stephen A. Smith.

The Chicago Bulls and the Houston Rockets have been told by Anthony's representatives to move on, the sources said.

With a no-trade clause?!?! Is that definite?
PresIke @ 7/12/2014 1:54 PM
nba.com reporting melo has signed a 5 year deal!

Nix,

The way the landscape is looking now, other than Marc Gasol, there wont be any franchise changing FA's nest summer anyway. Best to lock up a player of Melo's caliber now, while we can...

VCoug @ 7/12/2014 1:54 PM
Oh boy, he can't be getting a max deal PLUS a no-trade clause! The only way he should be getting a no-trade is if he's taking a fairly large discount on the max, say 5 years/$100M. And unless we're somehow getting Durant in 2016, and I have no idea why he'd come here, I'm not seeing how we win 50+ games per year let alone compete for a title.

Someone pointed out on another board that it is unlikely the numbers will be announced today. Cole numbers has not been announced yet either.

Letting Melo walk for nothing wasn't going to guarantee 'chips or 50 win seasons either.

Great business move by C.Anthony.
fitzfarm @ 7/12/2014 1:57 PM
Well looks like melo is going to be a knick.. Our starting sf position is solid for the next five years... Let's see if phil can get that contract down toward 100 mil

Yes I agree. There's not a player that will be at his level next year so it's not gonna really impact us. We're not gonna see another big 3 type deal cuz guys are locked up. We have to go with the Mavs/Spurs style of team building. This is why Phil got young prospects and values his picks.

True... if Bosh is worth max money, Melo is worth max and a half.

Once melo became a free agent, I knew there was no way he would sign for less...
