Knicks · Phil puts Jr on the block!! (page 1)

newyorknewyork @ 7/16/2014 1:46 AM
@DYST_Now: SOURCE: Phil Jackson has placed JR Smith on the trading blocks. Kings and Bucks drawing interest.”🙌

“@DYST_Now: Targets that Phil is going after from the Kings & Bucks for JR Smith are Jason Thompson, Carl Landry and Ersan Ilyasova.”NICE!

Phil ready to put faith in Shump & Hardaway Jr?

Thompson & Landry's contract are to long.

newyorknewyork @ 7/16/2014 1:52 AM
May be a false report though.

Not the greatest of sources! Plus Jason Thompson and Carl Landry have 3 more years at over $6mil per season. Ilyasova has 3 years at $8mil- plus why the heck would they be interested in JR when they have OJ Mayo? Makes zero sense all round.

Was thinking of that too but they really have nothing behind Mayo at that position. Middleton's more of a SF, they didn't pick up any SGs in the draft with their few picks, only bigs, and it doesn't look like they have anything significant lined up at the 2 spot on their SL roster. The look thin there and could use some more depth...I was reading they may be trying to move Mayo -- if that's true, JR would be a suitable replacement..Plus, Mayo was hurt last year for a stretch too, no? I know he didn't play anywhere near up to par...I think it gives them some quality insurance there and one of the better 6th man options around (they really liked JR at one point not too long ago -- I think they were one of the only other teams to possibly make JR an offer when he was a FA). Trading Ilyasova would allow them to hit the ground running with Jabari Parker too...Makes some sense.

Geez I guess Phil either told JR he is going to trade him or change his mind, because JR has been quite as a mouse since we hired Phil officially.

The timing is interesting. Didnt the post have an article about JR messing around with social media again?

Yes!!!!

I love Phil !!!

Phil said or his own mouth that he wanted to loosen up the guard glut that we have. Unloading Jr Smith is an option. Taking back more years on a contract is OK as long as we get back a quality player.

Looking at the cap space the knicks could get next year, if you can dump JR on one of these teams that missed out on all the FA's would be huge too. Knicks go from 20 million to 26 million. Might be a big reason too.....I would say go all the way and dump Calderon too to pump that number up to 33 million if you can, next season is a wash.

Just wanna say the Bucks could make the playoffs if they stay as is. They don't need Jr if they are healthy. They actually have Good balance

As far as the kings I'm not down to help those guys out. They don't need Jr either tho

They have Greek Freak playing the point in the summer league. The kid is 6'11 and only 19.

Anybody think Dallas would be interested in taking Jr? They are waiting on lance Stevenson so why not take Jr?

Stephenson signed in Charlotte. I know Terry wants to go back to Dallas and I think he is seeking a buyout.

They are a Carlos boozer signing away from being a legit playoff contender now

boozer, Marvin Williams, Al Jefferson, kemba, and lance...... That's really nice

I wonder if Kidd is fond of JR from their '12/'13 experience

kinda reminds me of the Hawks from back in the day... Steve Smith, Mookie, Kevin Willis... good teams but limited upside and always a notch below the elite. Still though.. they were bad for sooooo long and so poorly run a few years of at least being in the hunt and playoffs will be good for them. Best part is that deal hurts the Pacers, which doesnt bother me one bit

interesting... it was JRs best year. If Kidd thinks he can get from JR what Woody got...

JR is actually a valuable asset on a reasonable contract, especially compared to the ones given to SGs, so if we trade him, it must be for a better player at another position and/or flexibility for next season capwise.

I dont see those rumored players to be improvements, especially with long contracts. Do you?

The main reason is to limit distractions.
