Knicks · Are we prepping to make some kind of trade? (page 1)

EnySpree @ 7/24/2014 10:01 PM
You can't go by anything these writers are saying....they call Phil desperate and panic stricken, yet Phil shuts them down with every move he makes and every interview he's in.....

Now Phil said out his mouth that they need to make a roster move to straighten up the guard glut. He also mentioned that we need a big man and a true back up for Melo. He called Cleanthony "green".

So to me there is a move to be made....

Everyone is so disgustingly negative towards the opportunities that we have to make any deals.....I agree that we have no shot at Love and Rondo. Lamarcus and Marc Gasol are also pipe dreams.....but we actually do have a decent shot at players like Bledsoe, Monroe and players in that tier. It only takes some great imagination and a realistic look into why another team would make a trade with us.

That Tyson/Felton to Dallas trade was fantastic....we talked about Tyson to Dallas but had no idea we could drop Felton on them in the same deal and get so much back.

So the question is are we prepping for another trade? We have assets....not to get the top names on the market, but the second tier. Who is potentially out there? Who are you looking at? What team out there is in need of some guard help? Can we make a lateral trade to help things out?

Well, we're too far over the cap to trade for Monroe or Bledsoe because it would have to be a S&T. But even if we weren't over the luxury tax apron I'm not seeing how we could make a move for either player.

EnySpree @ 7/24/2014 10:46 PM
Phoenix still has cap space....they could go after Love and it Would make sense but is Eric Bledsoe and young guys good enough to get Love? No....

Phoenix doesn't have any real shooting guards on the roster unless you count Goodrich and Christmas....they are a team full of forwards and Centers...they already have Dragic and now Isiah Thomas....

Bledsoe for Shump and JR....

The Knicks do it and look to run Bledsoe and Calderon as the starting backcourt....The triangle doesn't need a traditional point guard. Bledsoe isn't a point guard...he's a short scorer. Calderon can switch off and guard the shooting guards, and Bledso can guard the quicker players. The glut at guard is eliminated and we roll with Bledsoe, Calderon, THJr, Larkin and Wellington at guard.

Phoenix does it because they need talent at shooting guard....they could go with the unproven guys, or they can take the potential lock down defender (yeah ok) in Shump and the legit offensive firepower in JR Smith...Phoenix would get something for nothing and improve their shooting guard position.

understood but what could we do to open that opportunity to trade for either? dumping Dalembert?

btw for what it's worth....Phoenix just Waived Dionte Christmas
CrushAlot @ 7/24/2014 11:16 PM
There has been a lot of talk about josh smith. Not sure if Phil would go there but I think the pistons prefer Monroe to smith.

Josh falls into that 2nd tier player...he's what we expect Melo to do when he plays the 4 except Josh Smith is supposed to play like a 4 cuz that's his game...he's not a 3, just like Melo isn't a 4....both players can play both spots but they excel in their natural role. I think it would be a seemless partnership.

If the Knicks could get Josh Smith and Eric Bledsoe added to a starting 5 with Melo, Calderon and a serviceable center...that would be interesting

I don't think we're in the Bledsoe-Monroe business but we need to make a trade to improve our chances.

Would like to see Phil pull off another move before training camp

Shump/Bargs for Smith works.

Bargs for Josh straight up works too....Knicks still have that trade exemption to trade also.

josh smith, jr, and melo on the same team, your talking about 3 (shoot first ask questions later) players. Mr Iso himself, cmon guys, thats not the kind of culture we need to enroll.

The only type of players I would prefer are the ones who think pass first. I would like wilson or gallo back, one of those guys would be perfect.

Gallo hasn't played in a while. Wilson is hurt off and on too. How would we get either player on the Knicks? Do we have a shot at any similar talent? You name names but how do we get them here?

if there ever was a team that could use a salary dump trade it would be the Denver nuggets. They have gallo, javale, Hickson and a bunch of guys that do the same thing still signed for 2 more seasons. Maybe they would give us two vets for Amare? Maybe they send gallo and javale to the knicks for Amare? Javale, Hickson and Wilson?

Bargs & JR look like they would work to bring both Gallo & Chandler home.

Gallo is owed $11M after this season - Chandler has a team option.

I could see Denver making the trade - especially as Gallo has been hurt just about always. They clear cap and could be players after this season.

We obviously lose that flexibility ourselves for one season.

I'd really have to look at a medical report before making this trade- part of me would do it because you get younger, lose one knucklehead and one guy that hasn't been healthy - but of course, you're getting two younger players who haven't exactly been healthy for a full season probably since they left NYC.

good post. I just dont think now is the time. Let training camp and the preseason playout. Get a feel for the rotation. Showcase some guys in preseason and hoefully pull the trigger on a move to either balance the roster or fleece some GM who is panicking. Patience amigo... your older now
