Felton had his moments. What we really saw the last 2 years was that with Kidd or Prigs Felton was OK. He simply couldn't hold down the floor leader role we needed. It was clear as day that when Felton had a good game it changed the way this team performed, but too often he was unable to play at a high enough level. Phil was able to sit and watch the team floor chemistry, learn about the locker room issues and ascertain just what was wrong with the team. With what Phil has done we should get much more consistent play at the PG spot.
I was very irritated with how Felton would often freeze out Bargs or STAT even when it was clear they were going good. A PG like Jose will know how to spread the ball around and feed the hot man as well. Jose just has a more natural feel for the game and how to run a team. Not that he's gonna be handling the ball like a Steve Nash, cuz that's not what happens in the Triangle. However when the PG does have the ball you want to know you can trust his decision making.

I wonder if we would've made the trade//// say he was getting paid $12mil/yr
Based on how good he is according to this article
yea well he's not Thadeus Young but the Knicks did need a PG.
So $9-10mil Calderon is an awful empty stat loser point guard but $7.5mil he's all world.
Thanks for confirmation
you remind us daily... no need to thank me for confirming. Typical thinking by some on this board. A guy cant simply fit OK. He's got to be all world or an empty stat loser. Not sure your aware but there is a middle ground.
You know what Felton was once that guy
when was that?
So from 2010-2011 back to reacquiring Felton he never at any time was a middle ground point guard?
You never liked him since day 1 putting on this jersey
You never defended his play?
Was he ever a Ray of Hope
He played extremely well for 3 months, got hurt, he came back and his play started slipping, he got traded, and has been well below avg ever since.
I keep harping on this but Felton flourished under Dantoni and when we played dantoni's offense during 54 wins until it became the Melo ISO show. Felton's skill set are perfectly suited for Dantoni's offense. Can't shoot, can run a team like a true pg but is WAS good at pushing the ball down the court and pick n rolls. Dantoni made Chris Duhon look like an Allstar come on!
No Kidd last year and we reverted to ISO Melo
Wow!
I did not know that Calderon was in the 90/50/40 club. That is pretty damn impressive.

Calderon is a top 20 PG even with his flaws. On this team he should make a huge impact on the offense. It will be very interesting to see how Fish wants the team to play defense tho. I think this team should consider a zone for stretches of the game. They have some poor defenders that need to be hidden as much as possible.

They wanted Tyson back really really really bad////
The same way we wanted Felton back when Lin left
they did not pay the fukked up price that we paid.
I'd say they paid an even more fucked up price- They gave up Larkin, Calderon, Dalambert, Early, the Greek kid and Ellington AND took back Felton

No. Tyson @ 14 per, losing our starting PG, and the cost of not being able to amnesty amare is 1000 times worse.
Ellington is the silver lining though. He is a star.

Billups was pretty much finished- went down the next season. $14 mil was a fair price for Tyson at the time. The giving up the amnesty option was bad (especially as we could have just not picked Billups option a few months earlier), but amnestying Amar'e would free up much spending cap space

Yeah, but his opposing man is in the 95/60/50 club!

Billups had an injury, many players have them. He was a stop gap and expiring after that season and there was no reason to think that he would get hurt.
Letting Billups expire (not spending 14 million on Tyson), and amnestying Amare (which they would have certainly done), would have cleared cap space (though not for starphuckers who needed it that year, we needed to wait out that season).
We would have been a far better team with Billups and not TD as our PG (and not having Tyson).

Nash could not defend either though he still won two MVP's and was in the 90/50/40 club. Calderon is a putrid defender but hopefully they figure out how to hide him.
Never forget how bad JLin made him look in Toronto.
I am happy that we won't have another dumb chucking PG.
mreinman wrote:Wow! I did not know that Calderon was in the 90/50/40 club. That is pretty damn impressive.
Yeah. Knicks got 70/40/30 from that position last year.
Man those guys have other Felton sucks videos and they are funny and sad at the same time. Unreal that we had this guy as our floor leader last year. He was even worse than I remember.

I don't think Calderon is in the 90/50/40 club anyway. Last year, his FT was .825 and 2 point FG% was .464. Career-wise, he's closer but he still doesn't have the FT%

They werent gonna amnesty Amare after his first year here after the season he was able to accomplish.

REALLY??? GTFO!!! I'm tired of your pointless nitpicking. Cheer the F up already. We got a better player PERIOD!!! WTF is wrong with you? I can't stand the whining and complaining. Right now this team is in a better position than it was last year. We have some improvements to the roster and we have a clearer cap situation and our pick next summer. Literally the best BB mind we could hope to get in Phil and he's already making a difference. Looks like a nice new coach who is excited and pumped about the job. The players like Fish and seem to respond to him already. WHAT IS THERE TO BITCH ABOUT??? Sure we can have some questions and have yet to see things fully play out, but it's a much better situation now than we were in last year.

Maybe you'd be happier finding a highly censored forum that doesn't allow critical comments.

THat would have meant not starphucking for one year - ugh.

He did it 4 times in his career and one year he was pct points off.
