There's really no fall back.

The pick already belonged to the kings. The kings are waiving both guys they get in the trade. The deal for the Kings was for cap space. They have too many power forwards already. The kings extended the date for when Acy's contract had to be picked up. It probably was done so they could move him.

the pick only belonged to sac if the Knicks stunk the year of the 2016 draft, it was well prtotected.

not really concerned with the pick, but felt the need to clarify.

It was Top 37 protected.

If we're good 2015-2016 year they'd get, it if not we'd keep it

So in essence the pick was still ours.

Phisher had to see something in the SL practices and games that they did not like- don't think they would have been so quick to sign Aldrich and then Smith if Tyler had shown them anything.

You never had the feeling that Tyler, with all his great physical ability, could consistently play like a 6'11" player. Should have come in with some new moves in the post, and not rely on his jumper, which is actually great for a big man. I also don't think that Phil and Fish thought he could move the ball around and make decisions they way they wanted him to in the Triangle.

Feel bad losing him, because he's a young guy with potential, but the Knicks want people who can contribute now, I suppose.

Not an Outlaw fan, just a wasted spot on the roster if he is on the team- always looked a bit sickly to me.

Saw Acy have a decent game- probably the one he had against the Knicks, but I have never followed him. Maybe Fisher puts him in when the Knicks are getting pushed around.

Fisher would have seen him play a number of times over the last two years...maybe he saw some things he like when Acy was an opponent.

Hope he keeps the beard.

The rotation is gonna be the most difficult decision Fish has this year. I can't really figure it out just now myself. It has to be something that Phil and Fish are no doubt bouncing around right now. Training Camp will determine a lot.

I was sure the trade was made to get Acy. The only place I saw it suggested that his contract might not be picked up was the, Ball Don't Lie article. But I read somewhere else that the Knicks have already agreed to pick up his contract. The Kings had too many bigs and needed cap relief.

I really don't like having Travis Outlaw as our backup SF- he's isn't good at anything and he isn't a three point shooter. He was never good to begin with and lost even that years ago

Mills says that they like Early and that Outlaw is basically insurance in case Early has issues. Early is really the back up SF unless he really has problems. IMO if Outlaw is playing Early wasn't ready.

I don't know who the hell he is but he needs to change his name.

Tyler is 23. He is an incredible physical specimen. He has been waived 3 times and is on his fourth team. Maybe he gets signed by Philly, gets minutes and turns into a player. He appeared to have conditioning issues at the start of the summer league. Some of this is on him.

Having a hard time understanding why people keep referring to losing a "young" guy like Tyler. Tyler is 23 and Acy is 24....so youth is not the issue. I liked Tyler's potential, but Acy appears to have been acquired because of his D, toughness and hustle.....also his contract is very favorable with the Knicks holding team options for the next two years in a contract that is only around $1 million. Outlaw offers 1 year of roster protection (at $3 mil) as insurance for Early's development. I didn't like giving up the 2nd rounder - but understand as the Knicks are taking an educated gamble that Sacramento would have the pick anyway....even without the trade.

This is the type of non-flashy sound move that you want your GM to make to build a solid roster foundation. Aquire a guy who you will control for the next 2 years at a very low salary and hope he turns into an Oakley type player. If not, his salary will make him tradeable along the way. Very smart move.

healthy competition in practice....if Early is ready, prove it and beat out a 29 year old vet that wants to stay in the league.

I think Outlaw will be cut or traded. I think Acy is Phil's shot in the dark at trying to develop a Dennis Rodman type of the knicks. The raw materials are there- length, athleticism, intensity, energy- just tell this guy to go after every loose ball and be a smart passer.

There was technically nothing wrong with Ellington. He is good at what he's supposed to be a SG. Tyler is still a good PF prospect. He can do a lot of the things you want a PF to do but perhaps Phil didn't want to wait on him. For this team I think it comes down to what Phil and Fish feel is the best fit for this team. Phil has a blueprint for what he thinks this team needs and he's making his decisions based on that. I think some of us get the idea that Phil is just making moves as they come, but he's making what I see as deliberate choices to restructure the team as best he can given the circumstances.

Phil is building even this years team in the mold of what he wants the team to be and the only thing that will change as we move forward is the quality of the players in those roles. Phil's targeting similar players like Thanasis and Acy shows a window into what he thinks the team needs. A great shooting PG like Jose is basically a tradition for Phil so no mystery there. If you look at his past teams he always has a big like Jason Smith. There's a method to his madness.

The thing that struck me with Tyler in the summer league was his terrible conditioning- he was huffing and puffing from day one- very disappointing.

The problem with Tyler is that he has basketball IQ like a Highschool kid.....I know on defense, his lateral quickness sucks. I've seen during the regular season and even summer league, he doesn't have the foot speed to keep up. Before you know it, someone just drove by him for a high light dunk. He's a soft Euro type big, with a jumper. We already have enough of those types.

And eventhough Tyler and Acy are close to the same age, Acy plays like a grown man....A power type forward we need. Tyler is too soft to play center and too slow to play against todays PF's....When Tyler turns 29 or 30....he will be a beast.....But we don't have that kind of time, and we need guys like Acy more than guys like Tyler. I'm sure Phil wanted to keep him, but he had to make a sacrifice. And this is coming from a Tyler fan....But summer league showed him weaknesses on defense, even though his jumper was nice.

Once Sac cuts him, I wouldn't be surprised if Phil picked him up, if we had an open spot. But Phil is tryin to build a team for the Melo era....which is now! I think Acy is a keeper.....If not, his value is slightly higher than Tyler, and will be used in a future trade. These are the kinds of non sexy moves the knicks need.

This season will probably be more about adding the right complimentary pieces than getting stars. Acy sounds like a high energy player off the bench who can improve our D. Tyler has made negligeable progress since we saw him in his first SL. These kind of relatively small moves, will probably be what we will see this season for the most part unless some players have really good seasons, unexpectedly. These small moves arent as sexy as getting a big name FA, but they are just as necessary.

Yeah Phil has a clear vision of what he wants to do with this team. People seem to forget that Phil was watching this team for a while and i'm sure he watched a lot of game tape and broke it down too. He knows a lot about the players we have and what he thinks they can bring to the table and then he made a list of changes he needed to make to improve the team and mold it into his vision of what a team should have. Unlike our other GM's Phil isn't just winging it. He has a blueprint for what he feels makes a good team.

Tyler didn't play like he wanted to be good....he's still in that learning phase. He's never going to have a career playing like that. He needs to show his game and go after it. He's not going to be young forever. Before you know it he's gonna be out the league and nobody is going to give a shit

Maybe the Knicks made the move to TT out of ellingtons salary. Maybe something is cooking. ACY MAKES PEANUTS
