Knicks · Will UK as a group ever move on from the Melo trade? How about the fact that he's here for the next five years... (page 1)

grillco @ 8/7/2014 1:04 PM
...and that's not likely to change.

It's been 3.5 flipping years, the guys that were moved have not gone on to prove to be as good let alone better and the draft picks lost haven't proven that they will better or have any longevity.

Ima just leave this here and ignore it, but it's just so freaking tired. It's long passed the time to move on and deal with it.

gunsnewing @ 8/7/2014 1:10 PM
Probably not since he is here for another 5 yrs

Given that Idiots that liked the Mo Taylor Trade still haven't manned up, I'm gonna guess the answer is no....
IronWillGiroud @ 8/7/2014 2:16 PM
I will forgive but never forget, unless we win a chip then I forget everything

I'll man up. I always thought Taylor was going to be the next Juwan Howard.

Threads like this one will definitely help.

As a knicks fans, I will stick with it. It is meaningless to think about the melo trade anymore. Let's look forward.

Fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice, shame on me.

Problem is that the trade was followed a few years later by him announcing his intention to opt out before the season, and then getting the contract he got.

"Next five years..." The no-trade clause and trade penalty makes it doubtful that he will be traded, but he managed to get a player option for the 5th year, and who knows what he will decide to do. I only know that whatever he does will be for his benefit, even if it hurts this franchise.

You cannot think about Anthony and the trade, without thinking about Anthony and his new contract- they are perfect bookends for Anthony's career as a Knick.

This is not something I will dwell on unless we see future examples of roster inflexibility because of the contract, Anthony decides, for some reason, that he doesn't want to be part of an offensive system, and keeps the ISO mentality, or more threads like this one pop up.

I am always surprised when a guy is criticized for something that was bargained for in their contract. If the Knicks management wanted to draw a line in the sand about an opt out or no trade clause that was their right. They didn't. Players/employees should advocate for themselves in negotiations. We don't know what went on with the second contract. Maybe Melo took less for the no trade clause. Botched labor negotiations are on management if you consider them botched.

Papabear Says

The deal is done and it's over. I want to enjoy next season. I don't want to be acting like I got an ax to grind. Some people on this forum will never let it go but if we become a winning team, then they will only come out from under their bridge is when we lose.

arkrud @ 8/7/2014 11:39 PM
Melo and Knicks are now like Siam twins.
If one half will do bad so the other will suffer.
This can go Alan Huston/STAT way, can go Joe Jonson way, or can go better... may be.
Only time will tell.

+1
Knicks were a losing team for 10 years. Since Melo has been here they had 3 winning seasons, and each year they got better. Obviously last year was a setback but it certainly seems to be one step back and two forward with the frontoffice changes. The MDA fiasco aside Melo has performed very well. Now he's got the support of Phil Jackson and has signed on knowing its going to be a team concept first and the style of play was going to change. So now its up to him to produce. Im rooting like hell for him and the Knicks to succeed. There are a few very vocal folks who would prefer to see the Knicks fail with Melo than succeed with him, but thats their problem.
