Shump almost got roasted by Mayo. He cheated for no reason. Ah Pre-season.
We wanna help rebalance the starting unit and add some more offense to begin the game -- reinsert STAT into that starting unit. Case closed. Small caveat -- just play him at the 4 and have an able rebounder/shot-blocker next to him i.e. Sammy, Jason, Cole... Wally just said it -- he looks to be in "beast mode" offensively. Easily our best scoring big-man on the team. Bargs and Jason are good scoring bigs but aren't even in the same league offensively with STAT when he's right.
Amare is looking really good
wally calling a good game tonight -- that was a good possession -- Jason just missed the little 7 footer...the ball is moving nicely..
What is working in Amare's favor is there is not a single big man on this team who is really excellent on both ends of the court. You could say Sam is a decent 2-way player, but he's an old cat now so his impact is minimized. Jason may be a good shooter, but he is not a 2-way impact player.
So Fish has a situation where there is no standout on both D & O on the frontline. That creates a greater necessity for situational thinking as a coach. It really becomes a damned if you do, damned if you don't and sometimes the answer will be to play the forward who is getting the points. Amare has capitalized on that tonight and is showing his stuff.
My concern is we lack even one top defender in the paint at this point. That scares me way more than worrying about getting points from a PF which we know Amare can do on a good night.
A little perplexed Jason's not having a bigger impact out there..

Real good shooter..
We need to keep Thannasis around just so to recruit Giannis when he enters free agency down the road. lol.
Man I hope the knicks keep Wear.

I'd love to see what Cole could do out there tonight...Really moved to the back burner...Might be time to dust him off and put him out there. I think he gets forgotten/overlooked..
Knicks showing much more chemistry in motion and passing in Triangle.
This ferocious defensive battle reminds me of a Lakers-Celtics playoff confrontation from the 1980s.
Giving up way too many points...Interested to see how Fish plays this for the last quarter. I think it's important to try and win this game -- gotta get that winning attitude back and protect our homecourt at the Garden. I don't wanna see teams coming in here and wining games on us all the time -- get this W tonight!!

Have to think there's a reason Fish hasn't used him.

Yeah, said so earlier. I saw why he was back in the rotation, but this is a glaring issue. Still, he's not a beast in the middle. He is more like Wear than anyone else on the roster. But he is scrappy and he fights in the middle and has enough length.
If we get lit up down the lane the first five games, Cole may get his shot if not earlier.
Amare is swell and all when he is swoopin and hoopin, but damn we are porous in the middle and we won't win a single regular season game until we address that.
Papabear Says
When are they going to put someone on OJ Mayo. Or will they continue allow him to toast us. 58% shooting by the Bucks?? Where is the defense?
The bucks are playing a style we played when kidd was on the knicks..

Yeah... this guy seems to fit this system like a glove.
Does not make many mental mistakes and is not selfish- only takes what is there.
I don't think Jackson will let him go.
Has enough athletic ability- might need a little more strength.
I still not that big on Wear. I do think he should be kept over Outlaw but his lack of defense is glaring. He needs to get stronger and bigger but he is already 24 so his body is not going to get that much bigger without it impacting his quickness.
