Knicks · Knicks To Pursue Marc Gasol (page 2)

Gasol would be very good for the triangle but his long term health scares me and I would love to move away from putting to much into one guy.

I want the solid/efficient 10-12 million dollar players.

Noah, I believe. Durant, Melo, and Noah in the triangle? Could be pretty sweet!

Noah is Amare part 2. His legs are breaking right now as we speak. Great player but pass.

I didnt realize he had knee problems. That is definitely not good. Too bad cause he is a NYer and it could be appealing to play here. He's also perfect for the triangle assuming we're still running it in 2 years. Great passer.

Durant will most likely head D.C. to play with Wall, Beal and Nene. Doubt he has any interest in NYK.

Yeah, I usually preface any talk of getting guys like Durant as simply a dream scenario. I'm certainly not ever getting my hopes up for big name FA's ever again after the LBJ cyocktease of 2010 with his Yankees hats and all that BS.

gunsnewing @ 10/28/2014 11:34 AM
And most people don't want Kobe this year lol

Tell me what do you want?

You don't want to tank
You don't want Kobe
You don't want gasol
You don't want Noah
Zero chance Durant comes

Clearly the best iland only option the past 15yrs and counting was to tank and get out of this vicious cycle but that will never happen now

gunsnewing @ 10/28/2014 11:42 AM
By the time we have cap space to sign these guys they are all going to be old and decrepit.

It's either tank or go after younger free agents and those are hard to com by but not impossible. Like Charlotte did with lance Stephenson for example

Not that I would give Gasol max. Gasol will most likely look to play for a contender anyway since he is at that age where he will want a chip. If Phil does move Am are to philly. Depending on the deal we would have up to 23mil in trade exemption to sign players outside of our cap space correct?

No the exemptions-exceptions are there

In cases of being over a maximum

Once a team drops below cap, they have to renounce those exceptions

Otherwise teams would abuse this to no end

No, you can't sign FA's using a trade exemption. You can only use it to acquire matching salary in a trade, I beleive.

Nor can you combine them with cap space

Not happening, bc of restricted Free Agents. Teams can match going after this younger free agents. Lance option wasn't picked up thats why he was unrestricted FA

We really needed to tank a few years to get that for cornerstone player. I can't believe its been 30yrs since we drafted one in Ewing

come on I never said Shumpert was a cornerstone. He could be our best 2-way player since Ewing I said

I think the Knicks shouldn't worry about Gasol unless he gives a minor discount, like 15M a year would be great.

The player I am thinking the knicks should focus on is Tobias Harris to settle in a David West role. If he keeps his rebounding up he could potentially be a better David West. The lack of size would hurt at times but He is an improving defender and his versatility would be great in the triangle.
