I consider this contract to be Amare # 2. Signing him to an untradeable 5 year deal for those numbers is just madness based on what he contributes, but worse is it is just another reckless roll of the dice, taking a big risk he can stay healthy late into his career. Melo has tons of mileage on his body already, just like Amare did. I doubt he will be chugging along the same in three seasons, but if he goes down with any injuries the club is screwed. You still have to pay the player with amnesty though even if it no longer counts against the cap. That's still a lot of beans to just throw away.

If they did not blow it on billups, the knicks would have amnestied stat after year 2 or 3.

You are out of your fucking mind if you think Melo means less to a team than Chandler Parsons and Brendan Hayward who get paid more than $10 million/yr.
