I'm not concerned with statistics to determine this. Stats are always twisted. Cole Aldrich's agent can present stats that show he is the best player in the league. Forget stats and just list your five best in the NBA right now after two weeks. Question really is would Melo make your list?
My list:
- LeBron
- The Brow
- Curry
- Klay
- Melo
I think Haden is better than Melo right now. Griffin too.
Not Blake, but, yeah, you are right about Harden.
Lebron, ADavis, Durant, Curry, Paul
Does right now include last season or just this season? Right now, he's putting up 20 points on 20 shots and giving 5 rbs and 4 assists a game. The 4 assists are the only nice part and that doesn't put you in the top 5!
No specific order, TOP 3
Davis
Curry
Harden
TOP 3, deservingly so, however, after that there could be an arguement made for many players
CA is nowhere near TOP 10 right now, winning counts, same reason why Kobe isn't on it either
Just this season. Top 5 guys going right now.

Well if all you did was tell the guy was putting up 20 points on 20 shots, 5 rbs, and 4 assists, I doubt I'd call that top 100. Unless he aged badly over the summer, his #s should get better even though it's looking bad right now.
ESPN had him generously ranked 11th
Melo is more like a 15-20th range player
Lebron, durant, and Paul are all better. Anthony Davis will be soon, and curry is also arguably better. But thats about it.

Anthony Davis is already better than everyone in the league besides Lebron and Durant. The guy is unbelievably good and getting better every day.

I think a better question is which player would you trade Melo for, straight up, with zero hesitation, and feel like you got the better value in the trade.
I would not blink an eye to trade Melo for
LBJ/Durant/Anthony Davis ( Which I think is the top tier of stars in the NBA right now)
I would send Melo packing in a heart beat for Andre Drummond, Klay Thompson, DeMarcus Cousins. Thompson may end up being the best shooting guard in the league very soon. Drummond and Cousins are young two way pivots you can build around.
Honestly I'd rank Melo value wise somewhere around Gordon Hayward and Bradley Beal. I'd value him in the 20-25 range.
While I'd also trade Melo for Cousins or Drummond in a heartbeat, I wouldn't call Cousins a "two way player". His D has improved but its gone from bad/distracted to merely acceptable most of the time. That being said the guy is an beast on the boards and on offense, Im a fan.

He is probably about to be recogized as the best player considering his position impacts everything on both ends of the floor. The little I've seen left me floored. He looks dominant. Besides Lebron needs to be allowed to age now.
Melo top 5? That has to be a joke.

Agree, he is close, but needs to make the playoffs first. If he can't get this team to the playoffs this season, he still isn't there yet.

You do realize that over the past three years Melo finished second in scoring twice and also led the league in scoring.
Oh, he doesn't play defense; oh, he doesn't lead the team in rebounds; oh, stop it already. He is one of the three premier scorers in the entire world!
Let me ask you. You are on the playground court choosing sides. You know one of the guys with his back against the fence is one of the three the best scorers in the entire world. You ain't taking him as one of your five?
Top 5 right now (no particular order)...
A.Davis
S.Curry
K.Thompson
C.Bosh
J.Wall
I've caught a couple of Wiz and Heat games this season and I like what I see from both Wall and Bosh. Both, IMO, have stepped this season and are playing really good ball.
I know L.James is killing it right now but I haven't watched a Cavs game since they played the Knicks...and haven't caught a Rockets game either, so can't comment much on what Harden and Howard are doing.

Well, if you put it like that, Melo is one of the top 5 playground players in the world, but not in the NBA.

Exactly
Bonn1997 wrote:mreinman wrote:Melo top 5? That has to be a joke.
Exactly
There are only a few players who are undeniably better, the rest are just personal perference. I don't think anyone can argue that fact.
